On today’s show, we cover the landmark ruling in the Kuching High Court yesterday which allowed Azmi Mohamad Azam Shah @ Roneey Rebit,41, who was converted when he was 10 years old, to return to his Christian origins, including changing the name on his IC back to the name given to him at birth. We speak to Mark Murau of SADIA, who has been assisting a number of other claimants facing related problems, as well as Kuan Ching, Rooney’s lawyer. They both tell us that this is a new dawn in cases of unwilling conversions, with Sarawakian rights to Freedom of Religion under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 and the Federal Constitution recognized fully by the courts. Kuan Ching makes clear that others can now rely on this precedent setting case. Then Baginda Minda tells us that this is a common problem with many Dayak, now converted to Islam through marriage and other means hoping to return to their original flock and original culture. He worries that the Dayak, new to the religion, may fall foul of the rules and land themselves in trouble with the religious police. If they want to return or even to find another alternative, then surely this should be a matter of personal choice, he says. Isn’t that what freedom of religion is all about?

Then we speak to YB Tian Chua and Maria Chin Abdullah on the Citizen’s Declaration. The need to reform the country’s institutions becomes ever more pressing with each day, says Tian Chua. In fact, the twin scandals engulfing the country, hot on the heels of 1MDB, have only highlighted these more, even if they were broadcast largely to distract attention from the even bigger elephant in our midst. On the case of YB Khairy, Tian Chua wonders if the sudden outing of this massive case of corruption, incredibly undetected for six long years to the tune of RM100 million, is one way of bringing Khairy back into the fold after commentators observed a waning of his support for Najib. While the drama over Lim Guan Eng’s house purchase and the Barisan Nasional enthusiasm for condemning bribery and corruption is hypocritical at best given the events of the last year and misdirection at worst. Maria Chin tells us that the Citizen’s declaration is receiving great response and will make its way to Sarawak soon. So get ready to sign!

Then we return to our coverage in Marudi for the second part of our interview with PKR prospect Elia Bit who tells us that the cancellation of the Baram dam will play its part in the election, though not necessarily as a vote winner as long as the final confirmation remains unsaid. Tune in also for our Jako Kenang with Ayak Bujang Tuai on the same subject. Beware good news, especially in the run up to an election! Then Apai May, our regular caller, rings to tell us not to be taken in by any BN candidate promising to solve Dayak land issues. If they toe the party line, which they must, then there can be no solution until the party policy is changed.

We end with Manggang of Betong who gives us the election low down from his area. With both Jabu and Lawson Chuat out of the picture and Uggah entering the fary, just how does the future lay out there? More importantly, will the Jabu name stand Rentap in good stead after his father’s long, long stint in the Layar seat? Probably not, says Manggang. After all, the people of Layar know just too much about life under Jabu.

Tune in for all this and more, plus our Borneo Bulletin.

Seterusnya, Apai May menengahkan dua isu iaitu pengundi di Marudi mengatakan mereka tolak Sylvester Enteri tapi pilih Dr Penguang.
