On today’s show, the long-suffering communities in Melikin are back in court again after a string of appeals and continuations have forced them to stump up increasing amounts for their trial costs in their fight to save their ancestral land. Brangka and his wife Rose are the only two members of their own kampung to stand strong, with the others simply accepting the hand dealt to them by those in power. They share how they have been long the losers, from the moment their land and livelihood was taken away to the ongoing struggle to continue their fight. But in the end they are determined to turn their losing streak into the final victory!

Lands and Survey came out with their statement intended to vindicate the Section 6 perimeter survey and the State Government’s manipulation of the land code to turn Native Customary Rights into Native Communal Reserve. But the clarification has led to more confusion! Barubian, renowned land lawyer, says they are not telling the whole story. The farmland (temuda) may have been surveyed, but that is the bare minimum and the stubborn refusal to recognize Pulau Galau and Pemakai Menoa (Reserve lands), despite centuries of Adat, is causing Dayak communities to lose up to three quarters of their land with the State as the lucky beneficiary. In many of the cases he has fought, for example in Kakus, these lands have been taken without compensation. If they want to help the rural poor, then they must recognize their land rights!

Nicholas Mujah ak Ason of SADIA says it outright: the section 6 survey is cheating the people, converting their Native Customary Rights land into State land. Adenan may have claimed early on that he is a pro-smallholder, save-the-forest kind of man but when faced with election, all those principles go out of the window. Suddenly he is fielding 5 logging fat cats, including the Executive Director of Rimbunan Hijau. Money talks in politics, obviously, and logging is being allowed to lead policy in Sarawak politics.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Faisal Syam Abdol Hazis decodes the latest jostling for political position in the selection of BN candidates as SUPP and SPDP see their power cut down by the direct candidates. Will SUPP make the break to opposition and save the face of this historical party? Milton Foo may have braved the slings and arrows of the PBB overseers, but Dr Faisal says there is no indication that they will make their move. He sees the long legacy of Taib in Adenan’s recent decisions, not least in his long and personally rewarding relationship with the timber barons. But while Adenan can choose whoever he wants, it seems, the controversy may hurt him. When your allies can’t trust you, how can you expect the skeptics to?

Talking of allies, another Tuai Rumah – another staunch BN Tuai Rumah – Mandau of Niah, has not been getting his allowance for the last 9 months! Really, are any of them?

Money talks and in Malaysia, that comes in the form of projects. Najib is playing this to perfection as he comes almost weekly with a cheque in hand. Give the people a mosque and throw in a church while you are at it! Nur Hanim Hj Mokshen tells us that Najib is going for the glory projects as his political gimmick but still ignores the real needs of the people. The places of worship are in pretty good condition, she says, but the drainage system is terrible. Not enough glamour in waste disposal to win votes perhaps?

Tune in for all this and more, plus our Borneo Bulletin.

Apakah masalahnya? Sama-sama kita ikuti siaran penuh mengenainya.
