On today’s show, we have another suspect land alienation come under the media spotlight. We speak again to YB Wong King Wei who has uncovered three since Adenan came to power, showing that not much has changed in the land of the White-haired Rajah. In this latest story, 7,000 acres of land in Tatau, Bintulu has been sold at below market value to none-other than Taib’s niece, Elia Khadijah Abas, the daughter of Robert Geneid and Raziah Mahmud. This is on the back of two other land alienations for below market value, one of those to Taib’s son Bekir – but all during Adenan’s tenure. The information is out but there has been no official response, just as at last year’s IACC anti-corruption conference where the corruption of the phrase ‘innocent until proven guilty’ was taken to its fullest extent.

Then we speak to Gabriel of Serian whose father is losing his house to make way for the Pan-Borneo highway. After so many, many years of waiting, this road project is being rushed through with unseemly haste. One might think there was an election around the corner with votes to be bought! After 40 years in the property, Gabriel’s elderly father is discovering that while his land is being compensated, apparently at what the government considers to be market rate, the house, the fruit trees, the pond, in short all the work of 40 years put into building a home, are worthless. So now, the family is forced to look for a new property with not enough money to afford an equivalent alternative and, even worse, only a month’s notice! The real stinger? The Government have decided to call this compensation payment a ‘reward’! Did they return someone’s lost pet? Call a spade a spade, says Gabriel. When you seize someone’s house, it is compensation and should be fair, not leaving a pensioner impoverished and potentially homeless in your haste.

Then we speak to Nicholas Bawin on the problems in Lubok Antu. After years of promises (even an airport!) and little delivery, the residents are still surviving with one police station and a couple of clinics, so Nicholas is advocating change with a new candidate who has cut his teeth in West Malaysian campaigns. He salutes the people of Baram who stood strong against the dam. Here in Lubok Antu, decades after the first mega-dam project, we can see the real effects on the community who received little compensation and not much else!

Another longhouse has burned to the ground, this time in Skuau, leaving 300 families without homes. Beneth from Skuau tells us how, in just 20 minutes, the community lost everything. While they waited 45 minutes for the fire brigade to arrive from Sibu, the community might have fought the fire themselves. But with no piped water, all they could do was fiddle while their home burned.

Another banning in Sarawak but this time an UMNO man. Do 10 wrongs and 1 right make it right? Zulhaidah Suboh, a social activist, tells us how banning a racist NGO who then proved the point by hitting back at the indigenous people of Sarawak with his own brand of ignorant trash talk does not outweigh the banning of a series of elected representatives from the peninsula. Adenan is proving that he is just the same as his predecessor, she says, from fielding the same faces to fronting the same behavior. Five more years after the last 53? That’s a long time.

Then Christina Suntai warns us against old tricks and warns us to warn our relatives in the rural areas. We have been the so-called fixed deposit but we must decide now whether we want to remain so, because without Dayaks’ rural support, PBB and UMNO cannot continue to be the Ketuanan and Najib cannot use BN ‘s victory in Sarawak to vindicate him from any wrong doings, embezzling 2.6 billion ringgits of public funds. It is up to us to counter their propaganda. No development without BN? There has been no development with BN! When a politician bribes you with your own money, then you owe him nothing. Just take the money and vote with your conscience. It belonged to you in the first place! Besides, 50 ringgit now can never replace 5 years of robbery.

Tune in for all this and more, plus our Borneo Bulletin.
