Nomination day kick-off: the long and the short of it!

Monday 25 April, 2016

On today’s show, nomination day is here and Sarawak politics is all over the place and we are all over the place with Sarawak politics! Three, four and five cornered fights are being announced the length and breadth of the State and yet two candidates have been elected without contest! Both coalitions are plagued with the same problem and the voters are shaking their heads in astonishment at the lack of coordination and cooperation in pursuit of solving the actual problems of the state instead of the problems of the party.

Dr Faisal of UNIMAS gives us his view on whether any of the coalitions will emerge unscathed from all the blaming and backstabbing. Will anyone be victorious, least of all the Rakyat? Then we speak to candidates and voters throughout Sarawak as they gather at the polling stations. From Serian, Kelaka, Engkillili, Batang Ai, Gedong, Murum, Miri, Machan and Landeh, we take you on a tour of nomination day sentiment. Let campaigning commence!

Then Christina Suntai spotlights the world outside the Sarawak state election though with an issue that should impact. The second daughter of the Inspector General of Police, Khalid Abu Bakar, is now dealing and selling firearms, highly restricted items in Malaysia! Conveniently for Nilai Arms and Ammunition, the licence for such items is handed out by daddy dearest, which must ease the process somewhat! This is a blatant conflict of interest by the Inspector General of Police himself, who is supposed to protect our safety in this country and to make sure that firearms will not fall into the wrong hands of criminals and other unsavory elements.

Tune in for all this and more, plus our Borneo Bulletin.
