    > Caretaker Kedah menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi pleaded not guilty to two charges of sedition in the Sessions Court here today. He was charged under Section 4(1)(A) of the Sedition Act for statements made on July 11 that insulted the Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah during a speech in Gombak.

    > Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has accused the current administration of using enforcement agencies to silence him.

    > Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim pointed out that since caretaker Kedah menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor had touched on the rulers, the use of the draconian Sedition Act against him was unavoidable

    ------------------

    Iswardy Morni, Activist/Political Analyst

*Political Parties Should Focus on Policies, Not Personal Attacks*

Kedah caretaker Menteri Besar Sanusi Muhammad Nor was charged in the Selayang Sessions Court today on 2 separate charges, namely incitement regarding the appointment of the Selangor Menteri Besar by the Sultan of Selangor and the establishment of a unity government with the approval of the King/Agong. Immediately after leaving the court, Sanusi in a media sitting accused the Anwar Ibrahim-led government of using the police to suppress the voice of the people with the aim of affecting the chances of the PAS&PN party winning the elections in 6 states.

According to Iswardy, Sanusi's statement is incorrect. Many PAS and PN leaders have been speaking for the past month, but they have not been charged or arrested (freedom of speech). As long as it doesn't break the law.

Sanusi has questioned the authority of the King in the appointment of the Menteri Besar and has touched on religious and racial issues - which have the potential to cause tension and fighting. The one who filed a police report against Sanusi was the Royal Advisor to the Sultan of Selangor.

Iswardy is of the opinion that the government does not block any political talk - just don't touch the 3R issue - King, religion and race. Related to the question of what form the content of the talk is in a mature political framework? Iswardy hopes that the political parties will speak by presenting the good policies that their party has implemented and criticizing the bad policies that their political opponents have implemented. Asked, will Sanusi's prosecution have a negative impact on voter support in the elections in 6 states. It depends on how well each party's machinery is able to explain what is happening and convince their supporters and undecided voters.

    ------------------

Abun Sui, Senator of PKR Sarawak

*PSB's partnership with PDP could spell the end of the opposition in Sarawak*

Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) has announced a partnership with the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), which is a component of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government. This move has been met with criticism from Pakatan Harapan (PH), who say that PSB is no longer an opposition party in Sarawak and that its president, Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh, should resign as opposition leader.

Abun Sui said that PSB's decision to partner with PDP is akin to PSB trying to wipe out the opposition in Sarawak. He pointed out that PDP is a component of the GPS state government, which means that PSB is now effectively a partner of the government.

Abun Sui also said that PSB's decision to support GPS Premier Abang Johari Openg is strange, as Wong never declared that he would quit as opposition leader in Sarawak. He said that PSB's decision to partner with PDP is a clear sign that the party is no longer interested in being the opposition in Sarawak.

The partnership between PSB and PDP could have a significant impact on the political landscape in Sarawak. With PSB now effectively a partner of the government, the opposition in Sarawak is now reduced to just two seats, held by DAP. This could make it difficult for the opposition to hold the government to account.

It remains to be seen what the long-term implications of PSB's partnership with PDP will be. However, it is clear that this move has the potential to spell the end of the opposition in Sarawak.

    ------------------

Baru Bian, Lawyer and Member of the State Assembly Ba'Kelalan

    *Sarawak Workers Deserve Fair Treatment*

The Sarawak Labour Ordinance is currently being amended, and the proposed changes differ from the Malaysian Labour Act. Sarawak has yet to implement the Malaysian Labour Act, and is instead using its own labour ordinance.

One of the key differences between the two ordinances is the number of days of maternity leave. The Malaysian Labour Act provides for 90 days of paid maternity leave, while the Sarawak Labour Ordinance only provides for 60 days.

Baru Bian believes that any amendment to the Sarawak Labour Ordinance should be balanced with the provisions of the Malaysian Labour Act. This would ensure that all workers in Sarawak are treated fairly, regardless of whether they are migrant workers or local workers.

He also urges the GPS government to amend the labor law to give workers fair laws. He agrees that workers in Sarawak are not treated fairly, and that this problem is not limited to Sarawak, but exists throughout Malaysia.

He said that the amended of the Sarawak Labour Ordinance suggestions are reasonable and well-argued. It is important that all workers in Sarawak, regardless of their nationality, are treated fairly.

    ------------------

Elia Bit, a social activist from Lapok

*GPS Should Focus on Providing Basic Facilities for every existing health Clinics*

elia criticized the GPS government saying that will build 287 health clinics with broadband (internet connection).

Elia said that the government should provide facilities in every existing health clinic. Because even in big hospitals, there are still many shortages where patients in some cases have to go to Kuching to treat their illness.

Clinics that have internet access as stated that it is only a promise by the GPS opposition to deceive the people...... while the problem of lack of water, electricity and roads that are paved to the hinterland even now, 60 years after independence, cannot be completed for the sake of the people's comfort.

Elia did not believe the promise of development at all.

    ----------------------------

    John Brian, political activist

    *PSB, an opportunist party*

The cooperation of PSB (President Wong Son Koh) with PDP (President Tiong King Sing) is surprising but easy to read. According to John - This cooperation is aimed at business monopoly. During the administration of Adnan Satem as the chief minister of Sarawak, many timber licenses belonging to the Foochow Chinese were canceled, angering the timber industry. Son Koh and Tiong are descendants of FooChow. But with the change of leadership at the center and state. Son koh will get business benefits if he cooperates with the Premier of Sarawak and the central government. That is the main motive of Son Koh and Tiong king Sing. Apart from that, PSB's support for GPS will weaken the Dayak voice. PSB knows that parties based on Dayak support such as PBDS, Aspiration, SEDAR and PBK are too small and will not challenge GPS. Continuing with these parties will not benefit PSB. So with the Movement that PSB made - PSB can gain business from the central and state governments. At the same time the threat to GPS has been reduced. If this continues then the business wealth of the Foochow Chinese in Sarawak will continue to be preserved. John hopes that Sarawak's Dayak voters will be wise to evaluate this development and vote wisely in the future.

    ----------------------------

    George from Baram

*Taib not the father of moden Sarawak*

According to the Borneo Post, Taib Mahmud is one of those rare breed of politicians who has helped transform Sarawak from a mere backwater area in the 1960s into a modern and progressive region in Malaysia today, and named him as “Father of Moden Sarawak”.

George disagrees with this. He said that if Taib is the father of modern Sarawak, why are there still many rural areas in Sarawak without basic infrastructure? Why are the rural indigenous people still poor?

He points out that although Sarawak has made progress since the 1960s, those developments have only enriched politicians and their cronies.

Taib's wealth is built on the exploitation of forests and the destruction of indigenous customary lands. The so-called development is only for the benefit of Taib and his cronies, not for the benefit of the rural people. Therefore, he does not agree that Taib Mahmud is the so-called father of moden Sarawak.

*Police arrest orang asli from Pahang who defending their land*

Pn. Irnie’s husband – Azlan protested a logging company’s alleged encroachment into native customary land in Kampung Ganoh, Pahang, was arrested by police on 3 July.

Her husband was arrested for kicking the tyre of a car belonging to one of the company’s surveyors, He has been remanded since 5 July and could be charged for criminal intimidation.

The incident took place when the Orang Asli community in Kampung Ganoh had tried to block the surveyors from entering their land. The area proposed to be logged is located directly in a “Hutan Tadahan Air” (water catchment forest)

Azlan has been released, but his phone has been confiscated by the police. Local residents are still determined to prevent the logging company from entering their land. They do not understand why the Pahang Forestry Department approved a water catchment forest to be logged, and allow a company to make preparations for logging in a water catchment forest.

The Community Communications Department (J-Kom) released an infographic that estimated the cost of groceries for a month. The infographic was met with criticism for being unrealistic and tone-deaf..

Roma has lived in Selangor for 16 years, saying that the monthly kitchen expenses of the whole family are over 1K because all items have to be bought and extra. Also, the high price of items will increase the family's expenses even more. How could J-kom make such a statement?

He hopes that Prime Minister Anwar will ask J-kom to review the matter, and understand the people's situation.

Andrian Lasimbang, Former Sabah Indigenous Senator/Activist

*Green Hydrogen: Not as Clean as it Seems*

Related to the development of the promotion of green hydrogen as a clean fuel in the future, by the Sarawak state government, Andrian thought it was not entirely true. Moreover, electricity sources from hydro Bakun, Murum, Batang Ai and Baleh are used to power plants that produce green hydrogen. Green hydrogen is clean, but the construction of hydroelectricity destroys vast forests and releases large amounts of carbon dioxide into the air. Furthermore, in the long term, hydro dams produce methane gas 4 times more polluting than carbon dioxide gas. Therefore, saying that this green hydrogen is 100 percent clean is incorrect. After all, the process of liquefying green hydrogen into gas when it is to be used, requires a hydrogen fuel cell that also contains Rey earth material. This means that the production process and green hydrogen cycle are still polluting.

Political Secretary to Dato Seri Dr. Jeffrey Ketinggan (Deputy Chief Minister of Sabah), Anuar Ghani informed, Sabah loses RM8 million a day when it delays the Nature Conservation Agreement (NCA) with Hock Standard Limited from Singapore to allow an area of 2 million hectares in Sabah to be involved in carbon trading. According to Andrian, the problem is for Sabahans because this agreement was done secretly and kept secret. They also do not know the real issue of the content of the agreement. What Adrian do know is that 2 million hectares of land is involved and but do not know where the land in question is located. As such, Andrian has initiated an initial suit in the Sabah court to uncover the content of the agreement. Other developments indicate that the Attorney General of Sabah has concluded that the agreement is invalid. However, if the collaboration between the Sabah government and companies from Singapore is successful, it will abolish the NCR rights of Sabah natives and 2 million hectares of land will be leased under the control of the Lion Gate Company for 100 years. Of course the people of Sabah objected to this action. In this matter, the Sabah government is urged to reveal the real information.

    --------------------------

    Mr. David from Miri

*J-kom estimated of cost of groceries is unrealistic, does certain MPs spending below RM 400 per month?*

The Community Communications Department (J-Kom) released an infographic that estimated the cost of groceries for a month. The infographic was met with criticism for being unrealistic and tone-deaf.

The infographic estimated that a family of four would spend RM397.80 a month on groceries, while a single person would spend RM234.60. However, social media users pointed out that these estimates were too low, and that the infographic did not take into account the rising cost of living.

For example, the infographic estimated that a 10kg bag of rice would cost RM38, but the current market price is closer to RM50. In addition, the infographic did not take into account the cost of other essential groceries, such as vegetables, fruits, and dairy products. As a result, the infographic was seen as being unrealistic and out of touch with the reality of the rising cost of living.

Mr David disagrees with the infographic on people's spending in the midst of rising prices. David is a single father with 3 children and has to spend at least RM600 in two weeks for school expenses, household bills, etc. Even if his salary is RM1500 or RM1800 a month, it is not enough. David is surprised how J-kom can make such an estimate. David questions the spending of a certain MP, is their spending also below RM400 per month?

Whether indigenous people benefit economically from hydro power and green hydrogen projects is something that Environment Minister Nik Nazmi and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim should consider when facing Sarawak Chief Minister Abang Johari Tun Openg in the upcoming National Carbon Policy meeting, scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, July 14, 2023.

    —————————-

Iswardi Morni, Activist and political analyst

*Sarawak’s income is high, but the distribution of wealth is uneven*

Related to the announcement by World Bank economist Apurva Sangi that Sarawak is now classified as a high-income state. It is true that according to the calculation of per capita income (total income divided by the total population) the income of the people of Sarawak is high - more than RM5000 per month. However, this does not reflect the actual situation. It is true that Sarawak's income is high, but the distribution of wealth is uneven. Therefore, one of the ways for fair economic distribution is by empowering the people's economy.

The agriculture and tourism sectors have the potential to contribute directly to the economic improvement of poor communities in rural areas. Therefore, land-related policies such as current GPS practices should be reformed and should give advantages to poor people who really need it.

The proposal of the Speaker of the National Assembly - Wan junaidi Tuanku Jaafar to introduce a law to make it easier for the Prime Minister to be dismissed through the Dewan Rakyat process - the presentation of prosecution motions and charges is a necessary and progressive one - according to Iswardi. The history of Tun M's administration as a dictator for 22 years is enough to warn Malaysians that Tun M often turns his back on the cabinet to make decisions that end up harming the country. With such a law in place, the Prime Minister will be more responsible and careful not to abuse his power.

Wahid reported that Penan Long Belok and Penan Long Sanyan had set up a blockade on 8 July 2023 to prevent the Shin Yang Logging Company (Kejin Camp) from entering the Penan protected forest area. The protected forest area is the Penan's hunting area, it also houses the salty water area, medicines and the area that supplies clean water for the Penan. After Shin Yang went through Kejin Camp logging the area between Long Belok and Long Sanyan for 2 years. Now the logging area has entered and approached the Penan settlement area. All this time the Penan people in Long Sayan and Long Belok get a little payment from Shin Yang. But two years later. The Penan people in these two settlements are aware that they have been cheated through various means. We the Penan people have been in contact with Roland Engan's lawyer and we will defend our traditional land until Success. - Wahid Anyie said.

    —————————-

Chris Lau, independent Journalist from Sarawak

*Criticism of Muhyiddin's Chicken Farming Proposal as an Ineffective Solution to Economic Problems*

Muhyiddin Yassin, the chairman of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition, has revealed that he has started raising chickens on his farm to address the shortage of eggs and the high cost of living in the country. He referred to a study conducted by researchers, where 1,200 respondents identified inflation as their most pressing concern. Muhyiddin aims to demonstrate that the problem can be overcome with determination, although he did not provide additional details about the study.

However, Chris argues that this is an impractical suggestion. He has previously raised dozens of chickens and knows from experience that relying on chicken farming to combat economic issues only adds to the burden instead of alleviating it.

Chris explains that the cost of purchasing feed for the chickens to ensure they grow and lay eggs is an additional financial burden. Furthermore, not everyone facing economic difficulties has access to farms, and even their living conditions may not be suitable for raising chickens. Therefore, he reiterates that Muhyiddin's suggestion of chicken farming as a solution to economic problems is ineffective and unreasonable.

He finds it puzzling that Muhyiddin, being a former prime minister, would propose such a suggestion that does not align with the people's welfare.

Chris believes that while the economic issues do need to be addressed, they cannot be resolved overnight. He points out that the previous government, Pakatan Harapan (PH), had promised to tackle economic problems within 100 days of taking office, which he considers overly impatient.

He believes that the PH Unity government has the capability to address economic issues and urges leaders like Rafizi and Anwar to provide policies that directly benefit the people, enabling them to address pressing concerns in a shorter timeframe.

*No dialogue arrange by plantation companies and directly encroach the native land*

Jok thinks that the two plantation companies that took the land of the villagers in Nanga Seridan, Long Sepiling and Lebu Kulat (Tinjar, Baram) are very good at manipulating the situation to achieve their goals. The initial step taken by this company should be to call a dialogue with the villagers and implement the survey parameters first. But these two steps were not done. On the other hand, this company encroached on the land of the villagers when there was a dispute between the residents of Nanga Seridan and the residents of Long Sepiling. When two parties fight, it is easy for the aggressors to achieve their goals. If the tense situation between the plantation company and the residents cannot be eased and if dialogue cannot solve their problems. Sahabat Alam Malaysia (SAM) advises residents to get a court order to stop the encroachment by the Mega Mansor and Miri Timur companies.

But still, she need to stamp her Indonesian passport every year with a guarantee from her husband Apek at a cost of RM103.00 a year.

She said that every time they come to the JPN office to check the status of permanent resident IC applications, the JPN often tells them that their application is still in process.

it took their time and money decades, but JPN never told her the reason of taken so long of the process.

Every time the applicant's appeal is seen and reported or spread widely, then YBs of GPS will only focus on the case, assist and then show it on media. However, there are still many IC applicants who are ignored, turned a blind eye by YBs, and are still silently waiting for the application results.

He said that these applicants are all Sarawakians and pose no threat to the government. Why are the status of their applications kept on hold or pushed back?

He pointed out that JPN had task force to go rural, but it still didn't solve the problem. He gave an example, JPN requires applicants to show a marriage certificate, and those who do not have a certificate need to go to the JPN in the city to reapply. However, when the applicant went to the JPN in the city, they asked for a Mycard. This is a waste of the applicant's time and money.

Abun Sui said that every time he enters the rural, he will collect the information of the applicants and bring to the city for follow-up, so he urged the applicants to prepare the information so that he can assist in the follow-up.

*EC must Open Voters Voting to All*

On the coming 6 states elections, Bersih will mobilise elections watch. Where there are already some sarawakians registered as elections watch in several constituencies.

Sarawakians can evaluate on turn out percentage. If the turn out is low, like in West Malaysia roughly about 65 percent and above. Or 70 percents and above, this is slightly higher if compare to percentage in Sarawak recent election.

he urged Sarawakian and NGOs to reform in order to give better election access to voters especially voters who are residing in other states.

For example, Bersih is Insisting on Early Voting Initiative, means early voting before polling day and voters are to be counted in the same place

This is an effort made for next Sarawak state elections, so that Sarawakians in other states can also vote locally instead of traveling long distances, spending time and money to go back to their hometowns to vote.

Peter John, Sarawak Human Rights Activist

*Concerns and Allegations Surrounding Ragad's Citizenship and Double Standards in Sarawak*

Firstly, while the rich the elites plus Ragad managed to get their Malaysian citizenship in just a blink? While our indigenous peoples of different ethnics living in Sarawak for years, waiting for their ICs but in vain. This make Peter John wonder.

He comment that where as all the time he personally Been helping Sarawak people to obtain their ICs, and those who are facing difficulties. Bring them to relevant departments. Most of the time they are being ignored, compare to those who are elites,, powerful people have no problems in getting their citizenship. That's why he said he is not happy with.

he is concerning in the case of Ragad's citizenship, because those who are either husband or wife are local can obtain, but not as fast as Ragad.

As He observe the process is actually very lengthy. And deem difficult for those from the interior coming to town to get the procedures of applications to get their ICs. So why so difficult for them and such an easy process for those elits.

Ragad only married to Taib in the year 2011 if not mistaken. But got her citizenship in extremely fast. And straight away being Malanau. Which Act that she used in the Malanau customry.

So dare to challenge Ragad to give speech in Malanau language, local Malay or in Iban language. What Peter John understand she does not speak malanau, even her children from her first marriage also able to get Malaysian citizenship. That is the most wired. So with that he start to investigate all the informations.

Peter John said that when he got Ragad’s IC No, then Only he dare to lodged police report. Lodged report with MACC. So that MACC can investigate on abuse of power, or corruption Why she got her IC. he emphasizhe that he is not the only one not satisfied, there are many people out there who are not satisfy.

Pertaining to summons on him. It is not wrong for public to debate on that issue. He said that if Ragad wants to accuse them for revealing all the information, that is public documents. Where we can get it from ROS, ROC, or Land and surveye, etc. They also can get from her own Tiktok, facebook. Tiktok from her son.

And from that Peter John said Ragad can't intimidate the people, the poor. What is wrong when public questions them. Peter John also commen that, even Taib's first wife, the late Toh Puan Laila Taib can speaks Malanau, Iban, although without Malanau status.

Ragad is from a chaos country and coming to Sarawak to became the King. This what Peter John said it is so called double standards.

He said that he is in the opinion that system in the departments are mostly corrupted. They are very selective. Don't look down on the poor, farmers and etc. Most important is no double standards.

*Residents Fight Against Land Encroachment by Plantation Company in Sarawak*

reported to the RFS that the garden land of residents in 3 Panjang houses in Batang Tinjar-Nanga Seridan, Long Sepiling and Lebu Kulat had been encroached by the plantation company Mega Masor and Miri Timur to be planted with palm oil. Residents in these 3 Panjang houses began to notice the presence of this plantation company during the MCO curfew in 2020. This company brings bulldozers and excavators to level the rubber and fruit gardens of the residents to be planted with palm oil. In order to defend the rights of the residents, they have set up a blockade and take turns guarding the affected area so that it is not invaded by the company in question. Robertson appealed to the public, NGOs and lawyers to come help and give moral support to the people who set up the blockade. Robertson also appealed to the Sarawak government not to give the people's land to plantation companies that are already rich. If our garden is destroyed, how can we continue to live? Robertson's question. The government should come and measure our land and give us a land certificate, that's our request - said Robertson

Charles Santiago, former MP for Klang

*On grotesque treatment toward migrants is still rampant in Malaysia*

Charles Santiago was contacted by a group of 41 migrant workers from Bangladesh coming to Malaysia that they facing challenges two months ago.

While in Bangladesh they have paid about RM25 thousand to the agent in Bangladesh. Upon arrival in Malaysia, they were kept in a house together with 20 to 30 people who are already there. For 25 days they were without job, poor foods given. And worst 72 people have to share just one toilet.

Charles was given a video taken by them. So with that video he viral it and release a statement in social media. And only after that Labour Dept went to the site. So they took the migrants to another place.

The issue now is, the migrants are coming to Malaysia for jobs. But they don't have job. What he knows that some of them are taken to construction site in Penang . But thet were not given salary.

So what we can here is, not only it against issues related to force labour but it is also a slavery.

It is clear that the employer keep their passports, to request for 7,000 to 8 000 per person to release their passports to them.

Charles found out that the employers are making use of passport to control the workers. And also can decide where to send the workers without salary. This is against force labour Act and other Acts in Malaysia .

Charles questioned, how can they come to Malaysia without any jobs .

Most of these happen in Malaysia that the employer keep the workers and they outsourcing the labour forces. The problem here is, if they are not given their salary, they can't pay their loan in their country. Some have made loan from private bank and individuals. If they can't pay their loan, the interest will go up higher and higher.

This must stop. The govt must be more strict on this issue. Recently Malaysia was given a watch list. Currently Malaysia are stage 2. But the issue deteriorating we may go to stage 3.

Global Royalty Trading SAL said this in a filed reply to the statement of defence by the wife of incarcerated former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, over the defendant’s claim that the jewellery was sent to her for “publicity” and that she never sought them in the first place.

*It is no reason to give land to Ragad Kurdi. She is wealthy and her wealth is inexhaustible*

Spread on social media a PL approved by the Department of Land and Survey - approval of a plot of land in Demak Baru, Jalan Bako Kuching given to Ragad Kurdi Taib. Dennis questioned the need for such land to be given to Ragad. Ragad is the wife of TYT Taib Mahmud - the property of Ragad and her husband will not be exhausted even if spent by their 20 descendants. Dennis requested that the Land and Survey department be disbanded because the Land and Survey department has only been a tool for approving land grants to the wealthy and influential only.

While poor people who apply and ask for land for agricultural use for their survival are not served and are not approved. Take the example of Usahajaya Tukau Miri village. The poor villagers were evicted, while the land of the village site was given to the Parabena developer company (which is related to TYT Taib's family). Dennis insisted that GPS Sarawak should be held accountable for the Land and Survey department's failure to help the poor.

*Abang Jo, Penan Children from Murum Need School!*

A statistical question reported by the Premier of Sarawak regarding the achievements of Penan children in the past 30 years as reported by the Borneo Post last week. It was reported that 226 university graduates from the Penan community.

However, despite the reported statistics - the Penan people in the Tegulang and Metalun resettlement areas in Murum, face great challenges.

The Penan people in these two settlements were moved to make way for the construction of the Murum hydro-electric dam. But after being transferred to a new settlement. The project developer (SEB) and the Sarawak Government did not build a school for Penan children. The school building that is used now is an old building that has been abandoned by the developers of the Murum hydroelectric project.

Using the old building as a teacher's room and classroom. How can penan children achieve the best performance - Anyie asked. The dormitory building can only accommodate 60 students. The rest have to go back and forth from home to school every day with a distance of 16 KM - through a log road. To help these penan children, SEB provides transportation by covering the monthly rent of a car of RM4000. But because of the long distance, the condition of the road is badly damaged and dangerous.

These Penan children are often late for school and do not have time to have breakfast. Anyie asked the government to build a school complete with facilities and build a paved road to the penan settlement. For Kawasan Murum, only 2 penan children have succeeded in going to university so far. They are Olivia Labang and Anjeli Pasang.

*Interior elderly struggles with MyKad Applications*

Robinson and his cousin Paya Wan hold red identity cards, which only represent permanent residency and not the blue identity cards held by citizens.

As a result, despite being in their fifties, they have never enjoyed the government's poverty alleviation policies or welfare programs.

Robinson stated that they have made multiple trips from their rural long house to the city to apply for the MyKad, spending thousands of ringgit on transportation costs. However, over the years, their applications have never been successful.

Although the JPN has provided assistance for rural residents to apply for MyKad, they only visit a few villages as central points, and residents from nearby villages have to submit their documents themselves. However, without transportation or money, they are unable to travel to the neighboring village.

Robinson pointed out that they have sought help from YBs, but they were simply advised to go to the JPN without any intention of providing assistance. It is now said that the village head cannot act as a guarantor, and they do not know what to do next. They have reached out to Senator Abun Sui, waiting his response.

    DIffan from VoteMalaysia

*VoteMalaysia Movement Calls for Streamlined Postal Voting with Malaysian Embassies Abroad*

VoteMalaysia movement calls for Election Commission (EC) collaboration with Malaysian embassies to simplify postal voting procedures, addressing processing system issues.

In response to the ongoing challenges faced by overseas voters, the VoteMalaysia movement has urged the EC to work closely with Malaysian embassies abroad. The objective is to streamline the postal voting process and effectively resolve the persistent issues encountered by voters residing outside the country.

One proposed solution involves direct delivery of ballots from the embassies to the voters, bypassing logistical challenges associated with courier services. This approach aims to ensure timely and secure receipt of ballots by Malaysian citizens abroad. Additionally, Malaysians should be given the option to mail their completed ballots directly to the embassies, eliminating potential delays in delivering the votes back to the returning officers in Malaysia.

The postal ballot system has been subject to widespread criticism from overseas voters and NGOs alike. The primary concern centers around the system's inconsistencies, with numerous voters reporting delays in receiving their ballot papers during the 15th general election (GE15). Some expressed frustration as their ballots were either delivered late or redirected to different countries or voters with similar names.

By collaborating with Malaysian embassies worldwide, the EC can work towards enhancing the efficiency and reliability of the postal voting process. This collaboration would ensure that overseas Malaysians have sufficient time to receive, complete, and return their ballots, enabling them to exercise their right to vote in a convenient and timely manner.

The VoteMalaysia movement emphasizes the need for a fair and inclusive electoral system that upholds the democratic rights of all Malaysians, regardless of their geographical location. The proposed collaboration between the EC and Malaysian embassies represents a crucial step towards addressing the concerns raised by overseas voters and fostering greater confidence in the postal voting system.

*Sarawak high income state? Not from most Sarawakian!*

According to the latest data from the World Bank, Sarawak has achieved the status of a high income state. The World Bank's Malaysia lead economist, Apurva Sanghi, confirmed that Sarawak qualifies as a high income state with a gross national income (GNI) per capita exceeding US$13,205. This puts Sarawak among the ranks of 83 out of 218 countries that have attained high income status. Sanghi announced the news on Twitter, expressing that while Malaysia's pursuit of joining the high income club continues, Sarawak's achievement is a pleasant surprise.

Abun Sui shared his thoughts on Sarawak becoming a high income state. While he recognized the positive news, he pointed out that most Sarawakians don't experience the benefits of this achievement. He explained that the advantages of high income are mainly enjoyed by a small group of wealthy corporations and individuals in Sarawak. Abun Sui highlighted the unequal development between urban and rural areas as a reason for this disparity. He mentioned that economic opportunities and benefits are not fairly distributed. As a senator representing the rural Belaga constituency, he noticed that certain groups of people are being left out and unable to access the economic opportunities that come with Sarawak's high income status.

    -----------------

    John Brian, Sarawak activist

*Only 10% are rich. They are politicians and families /cronies of them*

World Bank economist Apurva Sanghi- confirmed that Sarawak is now listed as a high-income state. The latest data analyzed by the World Bank obtained from DOSM- Department of Statistics Malaysia found that each Sarawakian earns an annual income of RM61,00 (USD 13,205) or at least RM5000 per month. According to John Brian, "I do not dispute this data. But I think the majority of Sarawakians are still poor. Indeed, Sarawak's annual income is high. But it is donated or owned by the upper classes who have political and commercial power. These people are mostly friends/cronies of those in power". If a country is rich but its people are still poor. This means there is a big problem in the administration. This is what Sarawak is facing, according to John Brian. Businesses that generate billions of ringgit in profits such as the oil and gas industry, palm oil plantations, logging, ports, hotels, manufacturing, renewable energy/dams and now entering the phase of hydrogen energy and carbon trading are dominated by a small group. 10 percent of the rich have high incomes while the other 90 percent of Sarawakians are still poor. I request that the state administrator be changed. Only then will the new administration be able to distribute wealth fairly and equally. This can all be done through political power and the ballot box. The people of Sarawak should choose wisely during the election.

    -----------------

Thomas Fann, Chairperson of Bersih 2.0

*Extending Election Timeframe: Empowering Voters to Make Informed Choices for Their Future*

6 states elections in which SPR today had announced polling day on 12 August, nomination on 29 July and early voting on 8 August. Meaning that campaign period only 14 days.

Bersih feel frustrated that 14days of campaign is difficult for overseas postal voters to send back their postal vote to returning officer on polling day.

On Bersih’s experienced was that from previous elections PRU 15, most postal voters only managed to receive their ballot paper just few days prior to polling day. A lot have reported to Bersih, that they can't cast their vote. Thus, all the while Bersih have urged that campaign period at least 21 days.

Only one time where campaign period was 21 days that was Balakong by -election in 2019. And after no more as many politicians don't like campaign period for 21 days as it is costly and very tiring . But what Thomas Fann emphasize is that election is for the voters to cast their vote. Giving voters more time to get more information. SPR must prioritise the comfort of the voters and not the ease of the politicians.

But if SPR refuse to extend campaign period, what they should do is to provide easy process sending postal votes to applicants. What Bersih suggest is that, right after nomination day, as people already know who is the candidate of constituency, and ballot papers printed out, they should be able to go to their account in Myspr and download format in PDF of ballot paper and Form 2 via online. Which just need witness to sign and send back. This is a good suggestion and more reduce cost and totally eliminate clerical mistakes.

Bersih urge everyone must go out to vote, as it is very important, whoever form state govt, will has right to appoint local councils or the Mayor. If we don't have a good management team in our area, we will have direct impact

    -----------------

    Komeok Joe, Penan Activist

*GPS Government's Neglect of Penan People's Needs and Infrastructure Priorities*

The GPS Sarawak government plans to build preschools for children in the Penan and Ulu areas. However, this is another empty promise of development for the Penan people.

It seems suspicious that they are only now planning to build schools while issues such as roads, identification cards (IC), and illegal logging remain unresolved.

Komeok said that people have no expectations for the GPS government to fulfill their promise of building schools when the condition of the roads in Baram still requires significant improvement. There are also several damaged bridges that need attention from the government, but he wants people to observe that GPS government are not taking the issue seriously.

As a result, Komeok are now taking the initiative through NGO to build bridges using a community-based approach and funding from external sources. This will facilitate crossing the river and provide a solution to the transportation problem. These are all ignore by the GPS government.

    Barnie Lasimbang, environmental expert

*Jeffrery Ketinggan need to answer which area for Carbon Trading program*

This NCA issue has been a hot topic in Sabah since it was revealed by one of international portal during Cop26 in Glasgow.

NCA is an agreement signed by Sabah State govt and a company which was registered in Singapore, that's Hock Standard whom owner is unknown, that was given power to manage Tropical rainforest in Sabah with an area of 2millions hactres, for 100 yrs for carbon trading project.

Where there was consultation carried out. The agreement was made secretly.

There was no clear justify and the informations were limited, as such Barnie took initiative to file an Originating Summons to request for access to get more information in detail. And with that the Conservator gave Barnie photocopies of the information. So that was the first time they saw the contents of agreement. After further studied it with Lawyers, experts where they found that the agreement was only one sided. Benefiting Hock Standard company. And there was no clause for sabah state govt to exit this agreement.

What is the most scary part in the agreement is process of benefit sharing which is in favour of the company.

There were several issues raised by Sabah NGOs on their concern to Dr. Jeffry but he refuse to answer to us, instead accused the Sabah CSOs are the mastermind.

After he filed the Summon, Sabah SAG had made a clear statement that the agreement was not enforceable, as it is not fulfilling the procedures and not due diligence.

So with that he decided not to continue the suit, as he took the statement by Attorney General is official.

But however after a year Jeffry Ketinggan emerged with a statement saying that Sabah State Govt is ready with carbon credit trading program and sell to Malaysia stock exchange may also be set up in Sabah. With 2Millions hactres .

And the confusing part is he did not mention in which area. Waiting Jeffrery Ketinggan to answer it.

*Ensuring Equal Access: Irene Chang's Call for Assistance in Obtaining MyKad for anyone who need help*

Irene Chang is dedicated to assisting Malaysians who do not have a MyKad in applying for one.

The cases of individuals without MyKad vary, including indigenous people from the rural areas and Chinese residents in urban areas.

She explains that each applicant has a different background, and the reasons for not having a MyKad are diverse, resulting in variations in the application process. She further clarifies that the process of applying for a MyKad is extremely complex and challenging, with the level of difficulty depending on the completeness of the documents provided by the applicant.

However, many applicants are unable to provide the required documents because they simply do not have them, such as birth certificates or their parents' official marriage certificates.

Nevertheless, she urges Malaysians without MyKad not to give up and suggests seeking assistance from lawyers or Members of Parliament (YB) for the application process or applying directly at the National Registration Department (JPN). She emphasizes that the issue of MyKad affects not only the indigenous people but all Malaysians throughout the country.

Oly William, Residents of Kampung Usahajaya Tukau Miri

*No relocation plans for 23 residents in Kampung Usahajaya Tukau*

(update) Oly told that 23 houses of residents in Kampung Usahajaya Tukau are currently being demolished. By the Parabena Development Company, owned by Raziah Mahmud (Taib Mahmud's sister). Most of the garden land with pineapple, coconut, banana, fruit and palm oil plants has also been pushed and flattened. Residents have tried to save their village through various channels until appealing for the intervention of YB Sibuti Parliamentarian (Lukanisman) and Bekenu Assemblyman Ripin Lamat. But no one could help. Everyone is afraid of the family of TYT Taib Mahmud. YB Ripin Lamat was previously an employee at Syarikat Parabena before becoming YB. Both of these YBs visited and saw the demolished settlements. But there is no solution. Residents are not paid garden or house compensation. There are no relocation plans. Residents are asked to rent and the developer pays rent for a year. Oly wonders why the poor people who have been living on government land for a long time are not helped/or paid compensation and the village land is given to a developer company that makes millions of ringgit profit for themselves.

Nick Kelesau, Spokesperson for Penan Keruan

*Penan's achievements will be better with good educational facilities*

The Penan community, despite being a minority ethnic group in Sarawak and mainly residing in rural areas, has produced 226 university graduates in less than three decades. This achievement is attributed to the establishment of a school for Penan children in Long Jekitan 34 years ago, which has yielded fruitful results. Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg expressed his pride in this accomplishment.

Although the Premier of Sarawak gave figures for the achievements of the Penan people in the field of Education, it seemed encouraging. But according to Nick, if good educational facilities are given to the Penan people. The Penan people will be able to reach the highest level in the field of Education on par with other races in Malaysia. According to Nick, the Penan people are facing a very difficult challenge because they are in a very remote area in the interior. To get to the nearest school, it takes hours of travel using a Long boat, walking, using a four-wheel drive car or riding a log truck. Nick hopes that a primary school and a secondary school are built near the area where the Penan people live and the Penan people should be helped through scholarships. Schools in the interior should be added with facilities and good roads should be built to connect penan settlements to schools. Nick hopes that successful Penan children will contribute back to their community.

*Six states elections, and big chance for reforms*

The Election Commission announced the polling day today, and it is believed that voters in the six states are eagerly looking forward to casting their votes. And also hope that voters who are working or studying in other states can return home to vote.

This state election is unrelated to Sarawak, but it appears that the Deputy Prime Minister Zahid has invited GPS to campaign on their platform, although GPS's decision is currently unknown. If they refuse to campaign, it signifies that they have not taken a stance yet.

According to Oscar, GPS is part of the unity government, but they have not expressed their position in the state election.

Oscar Ling stated that although it is a state election, it has significant implications for the national economic recovery and the people. He mentioned that past governments were plagued by corruption, resulting in policies in many states that did not benefit the people. Therefore, this is an opportunity for the people to make a fresh choice, elect PH and unity goverment, and work together with the federal government to bring about reforms.

Starting from when SPR announced the closing date for registration of postal votes till polling day. It was little bit of struggled but managed to do it.

Another challenge was looking for volunteers to deliver the ballot envelopes to respective 222 Returning Officer offices. For the coming PRN there are 245 offices. This will be more challenging for more rural areas like Kelantan and Kedah.

they are still encouraging people to sign up as the closing date for Postal vote is on this Saturday.

    Charles Santiago, Former Klang MP

*Muhyiddin's GLC Appointments, is about bribery*

On statement by Muhyiddin. As all Unity govt now also appointing politicians to GLC posts. With that Muhyiddin also will appoint politicians from his party if they win in the coming election in all 6 states.

Charles Santiago comment on Muhyiddin statement, saying it is come with bribery intention.

Former Klang MP Charles Anthony Santiago has been appointed as the chairman of National Water Services Commission (SPAN) effective March 20.

He stated that GLCs (Government-Linked Companies) are meant to help enrich the nation, but it is apparent that Muhyiddin's rhetoric is aimed at enriching his own party, prioritizing their interests over the nation's. He called it an abuse of power, and it is astonishing that Muhyiddin openly declared it. Charles believes that individuals appointed to GLC positions must prioritize the interests of the nation, seek wealth for the country, and serve the people. If actions are taken similar to Muhyiddin's, it not only fails to benefit the nation but also constitutes an abuse of power.
