    Iswardy Morni, political analysis

*Six States Election: team reformasi vs team sakau*

Preliminary analysis of the election in 6 shows that the unity government is able to maintain victory in Selangor, PP and N9. While the chances in Kedah are relatively open 50/50 and the results in Kelantan and Terengganu depend on the success of the UMNO campaign which fielded many candidates in the 2 states involved. But campaigns on social media are more able to attract the attention of young voters than open talks.

The clash this time, according to Iswardy- is the reformation team clashing/fighting against the team of people's property thieves and racial and religious extremists led by Hadi, Mahathir, Muhyiddin and Azmin. While UMNO is a party that has just realized that their struggle has been distorted and is trying to correct the situation by joining Anwar Ibrahim.

For Iswardy- voters should be sane to vote. Voters can evaluate the progress enjoyed in Selangor, PP and N9 compared to Kelantan and Terengganu led by the PAS Party. Voters should value the economic achievements, transparency and integrity in PH-governed states and also value the achievements of Kelantan, Kedah and Terengganu which are governed by the PAS Party.

Iswardy challenged PAS to file a police report if any PH/unity government leader steals people's money. It's quite funny according to Iswardy when Hadi praises Mahathir who has returned to the base of the road.

While Hadi criticized Anwar for tarnishing the PAS Party's image as a religious extremist and because of Anwar's political actions, DAP became stronger. In 1998 PAS supported Anwar when Mahathir was fired, because at that time PAS wanted reforms to the system that was broken under Mahathir's administration and demanded good governance. Surprisingly now PAS praises Mahathir and blames Anwar. This is proof that PAS is not consistent in the struggle. The nomination of election candidates in 6 states will take place on 29 July and voting day on 12 August 2023.

Desmond Laing, villager of Kampung Usahajaya Tukau

*13 Villagers Await Justice Against Land Survey and GPS Government*

Despite the last house in Kampung Usahajaya Tukau being demolished by Parabena, 13 villagers are still awaiting their turn to sue the Sarawak GPS government and Land Survey for negligence in the sale of the village to Parabena.

Desmond Laing stated that even though Kampung Usahajaya Tukau lost the legal battle against Parabena in the High Court, Federal Court, and Court of Appeal, resulting in Parabena acquiring ownership of the village, one of the plots of land, Lot 189, was previously recognized by former Chief Minister Adenan Satem as a village with basic amenities such as water and electricity, proving its legitimacy.

He mentioned that with this evidence, the 13 individuals have a strong chance of successfully suing the land survey and GPS government. However, other villagers chose to negotiate with Parabena earlier and have been waiting repeatedly for compensation, which ultimately led to the demolition of their houses without receiving equal compensation.

Desmond Laing emphasized that since the 13 individuals are pursuing individual claims and not representing the entire village, it will take time for the lawyers to complete all the necessary legal procedures before filing the lawsuit. He stated that the lawsuit will be filed in the near future.

*rural schools lack administrative assistants make teachers bear heavier workload*

Jimmy shares his observations of the situation in rural schools. He is a driver responsible for delivering food supplies to these interior schools.

He noticed that rural schools lack administrative assistants. He has been closely monitoring the issues faced by these rural primary schools, and many teachers have complained about having to bear a heavier workload due to the lack of sufficient administrative support.

This is because the schools do not have an adequate number of administrative assistants. Has the Ministry been aware of this problem for so long? Jimmy was informed by his fellow teacher friends that many graduates are still unemployed. Why aren't they invited to apply for administrative assistant positions so that they can have employment opportunities?

If the issue of administrative assistant positions is related to quotas, then the quota system should be abolished. It cannot be denied that the government still plays a role in the quota system, but this has been blocking opportunities for qualified young individuals, resulting in high unemployment rates among graduates year after year.

Nasir Nash, activist of Orang Asli from Kelantan

*Road Upgrades Set to Improve Gua Musang's Livelihood*

During a recent visit by the PM to Gua Musang, an important announcement was made by the Deputy Prime Minister, Zahid, regarding the allocation of RM200 million for road upgrades leading to Pos Balar, Pos Belatim, and Pos Bihai. These three areas are home to approximately 6,000 residents. For the local residents, this announcement represents a significant milestone they have been eagerly anticipating for the past 60 years. The road upgrading project holds the promise of bringing immense convenience to the communities in various aspects of their daily lives. One of the primary benefits of the road upgrade will be improved access to education for the residents' children. With better road connectivity, it will become much easier for students to commute to school. Moreover, the upgraded roads will play a crucial role in ensuring safety during emergencies.

With better roads, the local communities will have enhanced opportunities to engage in trade and commerce. The improved connectivity will facilitate the transportation of goods and products to markets, making it much easier for the residents to sell their produce and generate income.

The residents are eagerly looking forward to witnessing the transformation of their roads in the near future. The long-awaited road upgrades are now within reach, and the communities are excited to see the positive changes it will bring to their daily routines and aspirations.

Dennis Along, PKR Baram Communications Director

*The Madinah Constitution is not necessary in Sarawak*

As a multi-ethnic state, Sarawak does not need the Madinah (Islamic) constitution as an administrative guide - Dennis Along said. The Premier of Sarawak said in the 2-day International Conference of Islamic Scholars held in Kuching, Sarawak.

According to Abang Johari, the Madinah constitution provides fair governance to the people and prioritizes human values. Therefore the Madinah Constitution will be our guide, said Abang Johari. Dennis Along does not believe in GPS and does not believe in the Madinah Constitution to be fair. Dennis explained - Currently, the GPS administration in Sarawak gives advantages to Malays/Melanau and Muslim residents, while at the same time marginalizing non-Muslims.

According to Dennis again, The Madinah Constitution that Abang Johari wants to follow is the same as the Malay Proclamation popularized by Tun Mahathir now. It will give advantages to Malays and Muslims. While in the context of Sarawak it is the Melanau Proclamation. Dennis insisted that the Sarawak government be governed using a meritocracy and transparency approach. Anyone with the expertise and competence to govern- should be given space to lead regardless of religion, skin color or descent. Adhering to the Madinah constitution only uses religion for political purposes as done by Tun Mahathir and the PAS Party.

George Laing from Uma Akeh Baram

*60 Years of Governance in Sarawak: Progress or Regress?*

George makes a call to express his views on Sarawak being the wealthiest state. He mentions that Abang Johari also talked about the goal of turning Sarawak into a high-income state for all by 2030. George agrees with the idea but questions how this will be achieved. He wonders why GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) always talks about it but takes no action.

According to George, this is not the first time GPS has emphasized increasing the income of Sarawak's people, even mentioning a minimum family income of RM 4,000. He asks GPS, what about the inland families? How can they achieve a 4,000 ringgit income?

In relation to BMF (Bruno Manser Fund) publishing a 14-page document about Taib Mahmud-related company assets, we questions whether this is the source of Sarawak's wealth. These assets are owned by the same individuals, the same families, and their political connections.

George says that rural people only have land for cultivation to support their families, but the government is not very proactive in promoting agricultural policies. Fertilizers, transportation, and other burdens make it difficult for them. Moreover, NRC land are often exploited by politicians and companies, making it even harder for inland people to achieve high income.

He points out that in 60 years of governance, the state government has never aimed to improve the lives of inland people, let alone make them prosperous.

He expresses that rural people don't want to receive help from the state government only when problems arise (such as receiving aid during floods). Instead, they need basic infrastructure like roads, water, electricity, education, and healthcare. He questions why, after 60 years, these necessities are still not provided.

He shares an example of his own village, which is only 15 kilometers away from Long Lama town but lacks essential facilities such as roads, clean water, and electricity. George states that nobody believes GPS's promises anymore. In conclusion, George expresses his frustration with the fact that Sarawak has been regressing over the past 60 years.

Prio to the encroachment, their areas were green and beautiful scenery. And now it has been difference. Till now no action taken by the government authorities such as JAKOA.

After series of discussions but no response that we satisfied. So they have no choice but to lodge to get attention of the govt and other relevant agencies to re study orang Asli cases. Especially on logging that impact the communities . As there is no monitoring. They collaborated with the Kelantan Orang Asli network to voice their issue.

Other than water catchment, burial site also in danger. Their land too in danger. As the area is in the middle of the plantations, and their forest, farm lands and will also cause losing of their livelihoods.

Peter John Jaban, activist from Sarawak

*Urges Sarawakians to file a police report against Ragad*

When thousands of Sarawakians gather at Padang Merdeka in Kuching (On Saturday 22 July 2023), to celebrate "Sarawak Day" or Sarawak's 60th independence day. Peter John and fellow activists staged a peaceful protest against the granting of citizenship to Ragad Kurdi Taib. Wife of TYT Sarawak-Taib Mahmud. Ragad and his two children were given Malaysian citizenship with Sarawak (Melanau) native status. In the meantime, there are many people of Sarawak origin who are still waiting for years to get citizenship and until now they have not been given citizenship. The express granting of citizenship to Ragad and his 2 children - very sad, plus they were given Sarawak native status. With such a status, Ragad has the privilege of owning and buying the land of Sarawak natives and Peter John is worried that one day this land in Sarawak will be owned and monopolized by rich people from Labenon State. I don't object to him being given normal citizenship like any other foreigner. But being given special treatment with Sarawak native status is outrageous.

The absence of TYT Taib in the celebration of 60 years of Sarawak independence - last weekend. It seems to confirm the news that TVT Taib is in poor health. However, Peter insisted that the Sarawak government is more than ready to deal with Taib's absence. Of course the Sarawak government has a candidate to replace Taib as TYT. Peter described Taib's administration for 33 years as an administration of iron nails. Many of the original people's rights were taken away, Taib's position was used to enrich his family and cronies. So much so that Taib became one of the richest people in Malaysia. If PMX is hunting Tun Daim and Tun Mahathir for getting rich by misusing power. So Taib should also be PMX Anwar's priority - Said Peter John. Peter john Believe in the absence and departure of Taib from the political map of Sarawak. The situation will be more conducive for the people of Sarawak. Peter reiterated his warning that the people of Sarawak are facing a subtle threat that undermines their rights as Sarawakian natives. Therefore, he urged the people of Sarawak to file a police report against Ragad to stop the wrong practices that have been done all this time. Peter is satisfied with the granting of a public holiday on July 22 every year - his struggle demands that "Sarawak Day" be made a public holiday since 2013.

Wahid Anyie, Penan resident from Long Belok

    *Shinyang demolished Penan blockade again*

The Penan blockade at Long Belok and Long Sanyan was demolished by Shin Yang for the second time on 19.7.2023. Not only was Shin Yang not allowed to log in the reserve forest for the lives of the Penan people, but for many years ago Shin Yang cheated the Penan people in these two villages. Shin Yang cut and felled many logs. But little is reported and little commission is paid to the Penan people. The Penan people forbade Shin Yang Kejin Camp from continuing to cheat like this and asked for the logging to stop before any decision is reached.

In addition, Wahid Anyie is not satisfied with the treatment provided by Shin Yang to logging workers who are sick or have an accident. The sick worker should be under Shin Yang's responsibility. But often Shin Yang does not want to finance the treatment costs of Penan workers who work with Shin Yang. Wahid and his friends will go to meet the assistant district officer in Long Bedian next Monday to find a solution to their problem.

For now, Wahid and his friends will continue to set up a blockade once again.

    --------------------------

    Mr Lela from Usahajaya Tukau

*Last house in village was demolished by Parabena*

The last house in the traditional village of Usahajaya Tukau, owned by Mr. Lela, who had been living there for over 20 years, was demolished and only compensated with 3,000 MYR by Parabena. According to Mr. Lela, he was allowed to temporarily reside on Parabena's land until all the victims were given plots of land under the Resettlement Placement Scheme (SPS).

Mr. Lela is disappointed with the actions of the Land and Survey department, as he feels they do not respect the livelihood of the community in the traditional village. For him, only the Land and Survey department knows the future plans for each area in Tukau. He questions why there was a 24-hour electricity connection project given to land that will be taken away from the people. Mr. Lela requests that the government pay more attention to the issues faced by the people.

    --------------------------

Nasir Nash, activist of Orang Asli from Kelantan

*Rebuilding Faith in Education and Safety for Indigenous Communities*

Seven years ago, a tragic incident occurred at SK Pos Tohoi, where 5 out of 7 primary school students lost their lives. The devastating event continues to haunt the parents and students, leaving them traumatized to this day. Recently, there was a bit of relief as the court ordered the government to compensate the 7 affected families with a total of RM1.4 million, which also covers the case management.

However, the incident had a profound impact on the surrounding communities, leading to a loss of confidence in the school's management and security. The parents perceive it as mistreatment towards their children. Compounding the issue is the school's remote location, making it challenging for some communities to monitor their young children closely, relying heavily on the teachers.

Although some improvements were made after the incident, such as upgrading the school facilities, including fences, classrooms, and hostels, concerns about the overall school conditions and loose security remain.

As the upcoming 6 States election approaches, the Orang Asli community is closely observing three main factors. Firstly, historically, the Orang Asli has been known as diehard voters of BN (Barisan Nasional). Secondly, they consider the influence of the state government, with the current federal government being popular. Finally, they are evaluating the commitment and promises of the candidates vying for their support.

    --------------------------

    Jimmy from Miri

*High-Income State or High-Income Discontent? Examining Sarawak's Realities*

Jimmy shares his views on Sarawak's high-income state status. According to Jimmy, the government only targets the interests of the privileged and projects benefiting cronies. He believes that a significant number of Sarawakians still earn low wages, making it difficult for them to support their families' expenses until the end of the month. The government seems to care only when other countries' data portrays Sarawak as developed, but this progress is primarily concentrated in urban centers, leaving the rural areas far behind and not befitting a high-income state. Jimmy questions whether wastage, abuse of power, corruption, and land seizures from the people are what constitute being considered a high-income state. He believes the government should take action to return the rights to the people and support them in developing their lands instead of favoring large corporations. If Sarawak is truly a high-income state, then it's time for the government to provide opportunities for the people to progress together and move forward.

*Sarawakians Demand Return of Land Confiscated by Taib Mahmud's Family*

Dennis gave feedback regarding 2 news involving TYT Taib Mahmud.

According to Dennis, the majority of Sarawakians are puzzled as to why TYT Taib Mahmud was not present at the celebration of 60 years of Sarawak Independence. It is the biggest festival in the history of Sarawak and it is an official government event that requires the presence of TYT. Dennis demanded the Palace to provide further explanation. Or did TYT Taib Mahmud deliberately not want to be in public because he was ashamed of the achievements of Sarawak where there are still many poor people, asked Dennis.

For the record, Taib was the Chief Minister of Sarawak for 33 years. Other than that. Today Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim warned that action will be taken against the two richest politicians in Malaysia.

Although not naming names, a Sarawakian - Francis Paul Siah thinks that what PMX Anwar is referring to - is Tun Daim and Tun Mahathir. But Paul Siah asked that Taib Mahmud's name be included in the list that will be taken action. Share the same opinion. Dennis requested that PMX take strict action against Taib Mahmud and also his accomplices in Sarawak. The evidence is clear according to Dennis – many political leaders are rich but the people remain poor. Dennis also requested that PMX correct the injustice in Sarawak, where the Taib family confiscated much of the natives' land. Dennis asked for it to be returned immediately. Does Taib's absence in Sarawak have anything to do with PMX Anwar Ibrahim's actions of chasing rich people who steal the people's wealth? Contact us to share your thoughts. 013-5515219.

Jeffrery Ngui, Chairman of Muda Sarawak

*GPS gov's development only makes companies rich, but the people do not benefit*

Sarawak Premier Abang Johari during the Sarawak Day 2023 celebration at Padang Merdeka, said that Sarawakians must continue to join hands and stay committed in steering Sarawak towards achieving its vision of becoming a developed and high-income state by 2030.

Jeffrery compared the state government to a company and the people of Sarawak to employees. He said that the company is constantly making money and becoming rich, but it is not giving anything back to the employees. How can the employees become rich with the company?

In the same way, the GPS state government is only making the companies rich, but it is not seeing the suffering of the people. Forget about reaching the high-income state by 2030, the people are even struggling to escape poverty. Therefore, he said that Abang Jo's speech is groundless.

He said that Abang Jo should not just talk about his vision, but he should also list how to implement it. He said that this is very important, because in the past, GPS has always put forward many visions, but there are no good plans. The people just listen and forget about it. We don't want empty signboards.

For example, development projects should be open and transparent tenders, not for the benefit of cronies. The government should not ignore the inland indigenous communities, but only care about the wealth of the 5% of businessmen and cronies.

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Sarawak Day, the people of Sarawak are concerned about the development of Sarawak. Although the GPS government is proud of its development, Jeffery said that no matter how many shopping malls or skyscrapers are built, if the people do not have the purchasing power, it is a development in name only. He gave the example of the ART that is about to be built. How many people will be able to use it? "

    ------------------------

Fiqah Roslan, spokeperson for TiadaGuru campaign (No Teacher)

*Reform Needed to Ensure Students' Rights Are Protected*

Three students who filed a suit against their former English language teacher in Sabah’s northern Kota Belud district for being absent from class for seven months and four others including the government have won their case in the High Court here.

From the recent outcome of court case where the court had delivered a judgement in favour of three Plaintiffs(students) against a Teacher, Principal and Others. There are good and bad implications.

Positively this case sending a message for those students who facing the same issue and who in the community that are under pressure should not be afraid anymore. This case shows that action can be taken and also an ordinary also can demand for justice.

However, negatively, although we have won a case, after years of struggled. In the part education institution itself there is still lope hole and leakage in term of to ensure this kind of right is secure. As this may not guaranty that this kind of case will not happen again in future. What we can see now that this is a precedent case where action can be taken in term of security is still an issue, as reformation is yet to be implemented at the higher level.

Wahid felt sad because their blockade was demolished by the Shin Yang Kejin Camp company on July 18, 2023. Also involved in the demolition process are the forest department and the police. However, a day later the blockade was re-established on 19 July 2023. Thomas Fann, chairperson of Bersih 2.0

*Bersih Suggest Guidelines for Fair Elections*

Thomas Fann said that for the coming 6 States elections, Bersih received reports that the Unity Government Prime Minister and the Ministers in their public speeches or government events, made special allocations for farmers, fishermen in Kedai, religious schools in Penang, and so on.

Bersih is concerned if those are kind of offense. Those 6 states are under caretaker government. However, the Federal government is still functioning, and it is not wise to want them to be in caretaker mode as the country needs to run.

Therefore, Bersih proposed 3 guidelines, the 3Cs:

    - There should be no conditions attached to any allocation announcement or promise of project to be done at this time.

    - The Prime Minister or ministers should not use the stage as a campaign platform for their party.

    - No candidate should be in the ministers' group in their official duties. This creates an unfair playing field.

Thomas Fann said that the same guidelines should apply to the Federal election, even though the state governments are still functioning. He wants to ensure that all parties have a fair chance in the elections. He hopes that the SPR or government secretary will take his situation into consideration and release their official guidelines. In the past, the caretaker government was not in political dialogue.

However, Thomas Fann believes that these guidelines can be made better, including those states governments that are not involved in the election.

  • Alan Ling See Kiong, Former Senator and now the Sarawak PH secretary

PSB has not changed, it has always been a bloc party of GPS

Now it has been proven like what we said before the last Sarawak PRN 2021 - that PSB is only acting to split votes. As a result, PH Sarawak lost badly in PRN 2021. PRN 2016 (PRN11) PH Sarawak won 10 state assembly seats but because of PSB's role in splitting votes (Supposedly as the third power) will replace GPS- in PRN12, PH Sarawak won only 2 seats through DAP and PKR and AMANAH lost all the contested seats. It has not even been 5 years since PSB has asked to cooperate with GPS through PDP (Parti Tiong King Sing). This is what PSB really looks like- said Alan ling. Alan Ling said DAP is a principled party, once DAP only won one seat in the Sarawak State Assembly, but still did not submit to GPS.

Dennis Along, PKR Baram communications director

Reject PSB and GPS in coming elections

What did PSB, PDP and GPS do to close the door, so that PH cannot enter Sarawak. The same policy was carried out by the previous administration when Sarawak BN did not allow UMNO to enter and contest in Sarawak. Now GPS Sarawak works with PSB so that there is no room for PH Sarawak to ask for a seat to contest. On the grounds that the GPS coalition has represented the Unity government in Sarawak. Dennis hopes that the people will wake up and reject the GPS coalition in the upcoming elections.

PSB to collaboration with unity govt as can foresee that current political landscape

PSB to collaboration with unity govt as we can foresee that current political landscape.

In West Malaysia PN, PAS, including Mahathir, their preparation for the coming 6 states' elections. They brought up religion, race and Royalty or 3R issues. Recently Mahathir raised up an issue that multiracialism is unconstitutional and Malaysia is Tanah Melayu.

He said, after GE 15, where he made a statement, urged for GPS to collaborate with PH to form a coalition government. That is the best way directly to uphold Unity government. They collaborate with PDP is a positive move especially for the Dayaks.

If we look at previous Sarawak State election where GPS won 76 seats while the opposition only won 6 seats. Meaning that GPS is strong enough.

Personally as individul he ever ready to continue as opposition . But when look into a huge picture, there is a need for his people in Bakalalan. But there is no allocation provided. And that is a disadvantage .

Elias, vice chairman of PKR Barsm

The government built the road without supervision, and allowed the trucks damage the road section

He commented on the quality of the main road to Long Lama which is dangerous for road users, this is due to the lack of monitoring since the completion of the Road. Enforcers do not go to field to inspect the condition of the Road from time to time. In addition, overloaded lorries contribute to road damage. But what is strange is why the quality or tar standard of the road does not meet the federal road standard? While the Peninsular Road is very good but the road in Sarawak can be said to be a sick road. There are lots of patches here and there and this is very clear that there are budget deviations during the construction of roads in Sarawak. Request the government or JKR to monitor from time to time the condition of the roads in Sarawak especially to Long lama from Peninjau junction which needs immediate action.

    > Caretaker Kedah menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi pleaded not guilty to two charges of sedition in the Sessions Court here today. He was charged under Section 4(1)(A) of the Sedition Act for statements made on July 11 that insulted the Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah during a speech in Gombak.

    > Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has accused the current administration of using enforcement agencies to silence him.

    > Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim pointed out that since caretaker Kedah menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor had touched on the rulers, the use of the draconian Sedition Act against him was unavoidable

    ------------------

    Iswardy Morni, Activist/Political Analyst

*Political Parties Should Focus on Policies, Not Personal Attacks*

Kedah caretaker Menteri Besar Sanusi Muhammad Nor was charged in the Selayang Sessions Court today on 2 separate charges, namely incitement regarding the appointment of the Selangor Menteri Besar by the Sultan of Selangor and the establishment of a unity government with the approval of the King/Agong. Immediately after leaving the court, Sanusi in a media sitting accused the Anwar Ibrahim-led government of using the police to suppress the voice of the people with the aim of affecting the chances of the PAS&PN party winning the elections in 6 states.

According to Iswardy, Sanusi's statement is incorrect. Many PAS and PN leaders have been speaking for the past month, but they have not been charged or arrested (freedom of speech). As long as it doesn't break the law.

Sanusi has questioned the authority of the King in the appointment of the Menteri Besar and has touched on religious and racial issues - which have the potential to cause tension and fighting. The one who filed a police report against Sanusi was the Royal Advisor to the Sultan of Selangor.

Iswardy is of the opinion that the government does not block any political talk - just don't touch the 3R issue - King, religion and race. Related to the question of what form the content of the talk is in a mature political framework? Iswardy hopes that the political parties will speak by presenting the good policies that their party has implemented and criticizing the bad policies that their political opponents have implemented. Asked, will Sanusi's prosecution have a negative impact on voter support in the elections in 6 states. It depends on how well each party's machinery is able to explain what is happening and convince their supporters and undecided voters.

    ------------------

Abun Sui, Senator of PKR Sarawak

*PSB's partnership with PDP could spell the end of the opposition in Sarawak*

Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) has announced a partnership with the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), which is a component of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government. This move has been met with criticism from Pakatan Harapan (PH), who say that PSB is no longer an opposition party in Sarawak and that its president, Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh, should resign as opposition leader.

Abun Sui said that PSB's decision to partner with PDP is akin to PSB trying to wipe out the opposition in Sarawak. He pointed out that PDP is a component of the GPS state government, which means that PSB is now effectively a partner of the government.

Abun Sui also said that PSB's decision to support GPS Premier Abang Johari Openg is strange, as Wong never declared that he would quit as opposition leader in Sarawak. He said that PSB's decision to partner with PDP is a clear sign that the party is no longer interested in being the opposition in Sarawak.

The partnership between PSB and PDP could have a significant impact on the political landscape in Sarawak. With PSB now effectively a partner of the government, the opposition in Sarawak is now reduced to just two seats, held by DAP. This could make it difficult for the opposition to hold the government to account.

It remains to be seen what the long-term implications of PSB's partnership with PDP will be. However, it is clear that this move has the potential to spell the end of the opposition in Sarawak.

    ------------------

Baru Bian, Lawyer and Member of the State Assembly Ba'Kelalan

    *Sarawak Workers Deserve Fair Treatment*

The Sarawak Labour Ordinance is currently being amended, and the proposed changes differ from the Malaysian Labour Act. Sarawak has yet to implement the Malaysian Labour Act, and is instead using its own labour ordinance.

One of the key differences between the two ordinances is the number of days of maternity leave. The Malaysian Labour Act provides for 90 days of paid maternity leave, while the Sarawak Labour Ordinance only provides for 60 days.

Baru Bian believes that any amendment to the Sarawak Labour Ordinance should be balanced with the provisions of the Malaysian Labour Act. This would ensure that all workers in Sarawak are treated fairly, regardless of whether they are migrant workers or local workers.

He also urges the GPS government to amend the labor law to give workers fair laws. He agrees that workers in Sarawak are not treated fairly, and that this problem is not limited to Sarawak, but exists throughout Malaysia.

He said that the amended of the Sarawak Labour Ordinance suggestions are reasonable and well-argued. It is important that all workers in Sarawak, regardless of their nationality, are treated fairly.

Elia Bit, a social activist from Lapok

*GPS Should Focus on Providing Basic Facilities for every existing health Clinics*

elia criticized the GPS government saying that will build 287 health clinics with broadband (internet connection).

Elia said that the government should provide facilities in every existing health clinic. Because even in big hospitals, there are still many shortages where patients in some cases have to go to Kuching to treat their illness.

Clinics that have internet access as stated that it is only a promise by the GPS opposition to deceive the people...... while the problem of lack of water, electricity and roads that are paved to the hinterland even now, 60 years after independence, cannot be completed for the sake of the people's comfort.

Elia did not believe the promise of development at all.

    ----------------------------

    John Brian, political activist

    *PSB, an opportunist party*

The cooperation of PSB (President Wong Son Koh) with PDP (President Tiong King Sing) is surprising but easy to read. According to John - This cooperation is aimed at business monopoly. During the administration of Adnan Satem as the chief minister of Sarawak, many timber licenses belonging to the Foochow Chinese were canceled, angering the timber industry. Son Koh and Tiong are descendants of FooChow. But with the change of leadership at the center and state. Son koh will get business benefits if he cooperates with the Premier of Sarawak and the central government. That is the main motive of Son Koh and Tiong king Sing. Apart from that, PSB's support for GPS will weaken the Dayak voice. PSB knows that parties based on Dayak support such as PBDS, Aspiration, SEDAR and PBK are too small and will not challenge GPS. Continuing with these parties will not benefit PSB. So with the Movement that PSB made - PSB can gain business from the central and state governments. At the same time the threat to GPS has been reduced. If this continues then the business wealth of the Foochow Chinese in Sarawak will continue to be preserved. John hopes that Sarawak's Dayak voters will be wise to evaluate this development and vote wisely in the future.

    ----------------------------

    George from Baram

*Taib not the father of moden Sarawak*

According to the Borneo Post, Taib Mahmud is one of those rare breed of politicians who has helped transform Sarawak from a mere backwater area in the 1960s into a modern and progressive region in Malaysia today, and named him as “Father of Moden Sarawak”.

George disagrees with this. He said that if Taib is the father of modern Sarawak, why are there still many rural areas in Sarawak without basic infrastructure? Why are the rural indigenous people still poor?

He points out that although Sarawak has made progress since the 1960s, those developments have only enriched politicians and their cronies.

Taib's wealth is built on the exploitation of forests and the destruction of indigenous customary lands. The so-called development is only for the benefit of Taib and his cronies, not for the benefit of the rural people. Therefore, he does not agree that Taib Mahmud is the so-called father of moden Sarawak.

*Police arrest orang asli from Pahang who defending their land*

Pn. Irnie’s husband – Azlan protested a logging company’s alleged encroachment into native customary land in Kampung Ganoh, Pahang, was arrested by police on 3 July.

Her husband was arrested for kicking the tyre of a car belonging to one of the company’s surveyors, He has been remanded since 5 July and could be charged for criminal intimidation.

The incident took place when the Orang Asli community in Kampung Ganoh had tried to block the surveyors from entering their land. The area proposed to be logged is located directly in a “Hutan Tadahan Air” (water catchment forest)

Azlan has been released, but his phone has been confiscated by the police. Local residents are still determined to prevent the logging company from entering their land. They do not understand why the Pahang Forestry Department approved a water catchment forest to be logged, and allow a company to make preparations for logging in a water catchment forest.

Mr Roma share his opinion, saying that is hard to leave in Selangor and still the J-kom showing the non-sense infographic data that does not make sense

The Community Communications Department (J-Kom) released an infographic that estimated the cost of groceries for a month. The infographic was met with criticism for being unrealistic and tone-deaf..

Roma has lived in Selangor for 16 years, saying that the monthly kitchen expenses of the whole family are over 1K because all items have to be bought and extra. Also, the high price of items will increase the family's expenses even more. How could J-kom make such a statement?

He hopes that Prime Minister Anwar will ask J-kom to review the matter, and understand the people's situation.

Andrian Lasimbang, Former Sabah Indigenous Senator/Activist

*Green Hydrogen: Not as Clean as it Seems*

Related to the development of the promotion of green hydrogen as a clean fuel in the future, by the Sarawak state government, Andrian thought it was not entirely true. Moreover, electricity sources from hydro Bakun, Murum, Batang Ai and Baleh are used to power plants that produce green hydrogen. Green hydrogen is clean, but the construction of hydroelectricity destroys vast forests and releases large amounts of carbon dioxide into the air. Furthermore, in the long term, hydro dams produce methane gas 4 times more polluting than carbon dioxide gas. Therefore, saying that this green hydrogen is 100 percent clean is incorrect. After all, the process of liquefying green hydrogen into gas when it is to be used, requires a hydrogen fuel cell that also contains Rey earth material. This means that the production process and green hydrogen cycle are still polluting.

Political Secretary to Dato Seri Dr. Jeffrey Ketinggan (Deputy Chief Minister of Sabah), Anuar Ghani informed, Sabah loses RM8 million a day when it delays the Nature Conservation Agreement (NCA) with Hock Standard Limited from Singapore to allow an area of 2 million hectares in Sabah to be involved in carbon trading. According to Andrian, the problem is for Sabahans because this agreement was done secretly and kept secret. They also do not know the real issue of the content of the agreement. What Adrian do know is that 2 million hectares of land is involved and but do not know where the land in question is located. As such, Andrian has initiated an initial suit in the Sabah court to uncover the content of the agreement. Other developments indicate that the Attorney General of Sabah has concluded that the agreement is invalid. However, if the collaboration between the Sabah government and companies from Singapore is successful, it will abolish the NCR rights of Sabah natives and 2 million hectares of land will be leased under the control of the Lion Gate Company for 100 years. Of course the people of Sabah objected to this action. In this matter, the Sabah government is urged to reveal the real information.

    Mr. David from Miri

*J-kom estimated of cost of groceries is unrealistic, does certain MPs spending below RM 400 per month?*

The Community Communications Department (J-Kom) released an infographic that estimated the cost of groceries for a month. The infographic was met with criticism for being unrealistic and tone-deaf.

The infographic estimated that a family of four would spend RM397.80 a month on groceries, while a single person would spend RM234.60. However, social media users pointed out that these estimates were too low, and that the infographic did not take into account the rising cost of living.

For example, the infographic estimated that a 10kg bag of rice would cost RM38, but the current market price is closer to RM50. In addition, the infographic did not take into account the cost of other essential groceries, such as vegetables, fruits, and dairy products. As a result, the infographic was seen as being unrealistic and out of touch with the reality of the rising cost of living.

Mr David disagrees with the infographic on people's spending in the midst of rising prices. David is a single father with 3 children and has to spend at least RM600 in two weeks for school expenses, household bills, etc. Even if his salary is RM1500 or RM1800 a month, it is not enough. David is surprised how J-kom can make such an estimate. David questions the spending of a certain MP, is their spending also below RM400 per month?

    —————————-

Iswardi Morni, Activist and political analyst

*Sarawak’s income is high, but the distribution of wealth is uneven*

Related to the announcement by World Bank economist Apurva Sangi that Sarawak is now classified as a high-income state. It is true that according to the calculation of per capita income (total income divided by the total population) the income of the people of Sarawak is high - more than RM5000 per month. However, this does not reflect the actual situation. It is true that Sarawak's income is high, but the distribution of wealth is uneven. Therefore, one of the ways for fair economic distribution is by empowering the people's economy.

The agriculture and tourism sectors have the potential to contribute directly to the economic improvement of poor communities in rural areas. Therefore, land-related policies such as current GPS practices should be reformed and should give advantages to poor people who really need it.

The proposal of the Speaker of the National Assembly - Wan junaidi Tuanku Jaafar to introduce a law to make it easier for the Prime Minister to be dismissed through the Dewan Rakyat process - the presentation of prosecution motions and charges is a necessary and progressive one - according to Iswardi. The history of Tun M's administration as a dictator for 22 years is enough to warn Malaysians that Tun M often turns his back on the cabinet to make decisions that end up harming the country. With such a law in place, the Prime Minister will be more responsible and careful not to abuse his power.

The protected forest area is the Penan's hunting area, it also houses the salty water area, medicines and the area that supplies clean water for the Penan. After Shin Yang went through Kejin Camp logging the area between Long Belok and Long Sanyan for 2 years. Now the logging area has entered and approached the Penan settlement area. All this time the Penan people in Long Sayan and Long Belok get a little payment from Shin Yang. But two years later. The Penan people in these two settlements are aware that they have been cheated through various means. Chris Lau, independent Journalist from Sarawak

*Criticism of Muhyiddin's Chicken Farming Proposal as an Ineffective Solution to Economic Problems*

Muhyiddin Yassin, the chairman of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition, has revealed that he has started raising chickens on his farm to address the shortage of eggs and the high cost of living in the country. He referred to a study conducted by researchers, where 1,200 respondents identified inflation as their most pressing concern. Muhyiddin aims to demonstrate that the problem can be overcome with determination, although he did not provide additional details about the study.

However, Chris argues that this is an impractical suggestion. He has previously raised dozens of chickens and knows from experience that relying on chicken farming to combat economic issues only adds to the burden instead of alleviating it.

Chris explains that the cost of purchasing feed for the chickens to ensure they grow and lay eggs is an additional financial burden. Furthermore, not everyone facing economic difficulties has access to farms, and even their living conditions may not be suitable for raising chickens. Therefore, he reiterates that Muhyiddin's suggestion of chicken farming as a solution to economic problems is ineffective and unreasonable.

He finds it puzzling that Muhyiddin, being a former prime minister, would propose such a suggestion that does not align with the people's welfare.

Chris believes that while the economic issues do need to be addressed, they cannot be resolved overnight. He points out that the previous government, Pakatan Harapan (PH), had promised to tackle economic problems within 100 days of taking office, which he considers overly impatient.

He believes that the PH Unity government has the capability to address economic issues and urges leaders like Rafizi and Anwar to provide policies that directly benefit the people, enabling them to address pressing concerns in a shorter timeframe.
