ENGLISH - On today’s show, we first talk to Peter Kallang about the state of our rivers from the Save Rivers standpoint. He tells us that sandbanks caused by erosion cause shallow water so hot that fish can’t live in it. Now there are almost no big fish, he says, only small fry. But the impact on humans is huge, in terms of economy and health, as communities cannot access protein as part of their balanced diet. The whole eco-system depends on these rivers and he challenges Len Talif to come on the ground and see the rivers in the rural areas for himself. Then, he says, he must get his government’s departments in order. After all, these activities destroying the eco-system are all licensed by someone in some office in some city somewhere. George from Uma Ukit of Asap Koyan Belaga confirms his views. The rivers in his area are dirty and clogged with logs, especially in monsoon season. There is no fresh fish for the communities as there was before the Bakun dam. The Asap Koyan river is truly dead, he says. It is so disrespected nowadays, that it is treated like a dustbin.

Then we return to politics and the reaction to the new cabinet announced earlier this week. Mr Raffar reports to us from his hospital bed after he suffered a stroke in the stress of the political crisis facing his nation. Willie Mongin might be new, he says, but that doesn’t matter. A new generation, like Syed Saddiq, is needed. What matters most is that Willie, in his short career, has put himself above the people. Another new face, Hanifah Taib, is hardly there on her own merits, he says, and is just another opportunity for Taib’s old cronies to get back in power. She has remained silent all this time and looks likely to remain so on Sarawak’s rights, he adds.

Romuald Siew of Batu Niah looks at the list of recycled action figures and straight out the packaging appointments. We voted the former out because we wanted reform, he says, and now they are right back in again. He also slams the appointment of newbie Hanifah Taib as a minister in name only. When it comes to her performance so far, there is no reason for her appointment. But, when the Taib family are involved in politics, he says, it is unlikely to be about merit, more likely about money. But with this grossly inflated cabinet, it is the rakyat who will end up paying all their salaries and expenses. Wait and see what they are worth, he advises, but in the meantime the money keeps coming out of people’s pockets.

Then Father Robert of Bintulu picks apart the PDP Secretary General’s statement that an Assistant Minister’s post in the world’s biggest cabinet did not ‘befit’ Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing’s position. A touch of humility perhaps? A wish to better serve his local constituents by refusing a higher position? Or perhaps an important man like him with so many titles and so many terms should be nothing but full Minister in his view. Anything less is surely an insult.

We end with a half hour special with activist and lawyer, Siti Kassim. She takes us through almost every opinion on the collective minds of the nation, from Ketuanan Melayu to cronyism, from indigenous representation to the people’s choice, from the power of the Borneo states to the possibility of their continued exploitation. Tu kitai ngenang pasal politik diatu, lalu ningaka sekeda kenang pasal kaban menteri cabinet ti udah dipaduka dalam minggu tu. Mr. Raffar ti benung berubat ba sapital, iya madahka amat Willie Mongin nya baru dalam politik, tang nya enda tentu ngirauka ati. Orang politik ti rebak baru baka Syed Saddiq, endang beguna bendar dalam politik. Tang pekara ti ngirauka ati laban Willie ti ngelanggar penemu bala penyukung iya. Siku agi orang ti baru nya Hanifah Taib, nyata dikena ngangkatka pengering sida Taib sebilik dalam politik. Ngelama tu nadai ninga iya bejakuka pekara menua Sarawak nyentukka diatu.

Bala sida nya nadai diundi, laban rayat deka ka gaya politik di Sarawak berubah. Iya mega mantah pasal Hanifah Taib ti dipaduka nyadi Sapit Menteri, nya semina nama aja. Pengawa ti dikereja iya nadai ngipakka iya ti dipaduka nyadi sapit menteri. Tang enti bala sida Taib dipaduka mangku pengawa politk pengelandik enggau penelaba sida endang nadai kena kira, laban asil nya ketegal duit. Semua nya ngerugika rayat, laban rayat ti mayar gaji sida enggau benja bukai ti dikena sida. Kitai sama meda asil pengawa sida, pia ku jaku dikena ngelalau rayat, tang duit meruan belama pansut ari kerepai rayat.

Father Robert ari Bintulu ngenang penemu ari Secretary PDP, madahka penududuk Sapit Menteri ti diungkupka ngagai Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing endang enda patut. Ku iya, nyangka manah agi iya nulung bala kaban party enggau bala penyukung iya lalu enggai nerima pengawa ti besai agi kini ? Laban iya orang ti lama dalam politik nya alai iya patut dipaduka nyadi menteri penuh. Pengawa ti baruh ari nya tetap enda ngenyangka ati iya.
