Education Minister, Dr Maszlee Malik, has handed in his own report card recently and given himself an A+ overall. According to him, 90% of the works on dilapidated schools in Sarawak are now complete and Pakatan Harapan are proud of the additional investment in the education infrastructure in the Borneo States after decades of total neglect under Barisan Nasional. But, despite this, education in Sarawak still remains a massive issue and a great deal of homework lies ahead. We speak to Mr Irew of Data Kakus, whose community had to build its own school, and despite providing an education to 600 students, they have yet to receive any allocation for maintenance. Meanwhile, lawyer and activist Abun Sui of Sungai Asap describes another school in Metalun, this time occupying an abandoned logging camp, also with zero allocation. It seems that Sarawak students must still make the best of anything that is available if they want to get an education.

As a section of the Pan-Borneo highway crashed to earth over the weekend, questions are being asked about safety along Sarawak’s longest construction site. YB Michael Teo lays the blame for the awful accident squarely on Sarawak’s JKR for an absence of oversight. Meanwhile, we speak to Lobo, a crane operator from Miri, who tells us that safety standards in the industry are frankly scary, from a simple lack of hardhats down to failures in supervision. Then we speak to Marini, a bus driver who plies the route of the road works on a regular basis. He tells us that the journey has become hellish and road traffic accidents have become a daily occurrence. Perhaps someone should be keeping more of an eye on the highway.

The price of palm oil is on the rise again in spite of all the problems facing the industry in Malaysia at the moment. Robert, a smallholder from Sebauh, Bintulu, is happy to see the increase and he urges other smallholders to keep control over their own lands as the cash crop might come good, especially if the political will to solve the problems persists.

At last, we remember activist Bill Kayong who was horrifically gunned down in his car five years ago. As his friends and colleagues gather to remember him, lawyer Simon Siah prepares to submit a letter to the Sarawak Attorney-General asking him to reopen the case against the big fish that they all believe got away with murder.

Diatu rega sawit udah niki baru, taja pan mayuh bengkah penusah bisi nuntung industri tu di menua Malaysia dalam jam ke diatu.  Encik Robert ti bempu kebun sawit ti enda besai ari Sebauh, Bintulu berasai lantang ati meda rega sawit niki lalu minta sida bukai ti bisi kebun sawit ke enda besai ngemataka tanah sida empu, laban utai tanam ke ulih mansutka asil nya tau berega agi, enti perintah deka majak nulung rayat mutar ka penusah ke benung nyadi diatu.

Ke penuudi tu, kitai ngingatka activist Bill Kayong ke mati ditimbak orang enggau kejam dalam kerita iya, lima taun ke udah lalu.  Beserimbai enggau pangan serta orang ti begulai gawa enggau iya lebuh ke agi idup, nguluq pengwa kena ngelaiq iya chukup lima taun udah nadai, lawyer Simon Siah besedia deka nyerahka surat ngagai Attorney-General menua Sarawak, minta iya mungkar baru kes tu, kena ngelaban orang ke dipelabaka endang kepala ngasuh munuh niang Bill Kayong tu.
