On today’s show, our last before a brief Christmas break, we have a couple of moments of Christmas cheer. Pastor Gremmand gives us a Christmas message and we hear from a community in Batu Niah who are carrying on caroling, even in the floodwaters.

Then an unexpected tale of sharing between plantation giant and community. Agnes of Dijih shares a story in which Ta Ann plantations have done a more than reasonable deal with the villages that surround the land in Ladang Satu , Mukah, given to them under a provisional lease. The communities collect, they send to the mill, Ta Ann takes 10% and everyone is happy. The only problem is one of their own community members, who will not accept 90% of the pie and instead wants it all, staging a sit in at the abandoned plantation quarters and stirring up the story. Share and share alike, say the rest of community, and then perhaps we can find a way forward.

Rumah Daniel in Sri Aman was razed to the ground this week in a terrible blaze, bringing the total for the year to just above twenty – a tragic statistic. We speak to Anyi Ngau of Uma Bawang, whose longhouse burned down earlier this year, telling us about the process of rebuilding lives and homes. Then Tuan John Sangun of the Bomba share the difficulties that fighting fire in these far flung communities can present and gives some valuable advice on how the members can mobilise themselves.

As the Selangor government announced this week that it will be setting up a new committee to safeguard Orang Asli welfare in the state, we speak to Dr Colin Nicholas from the Centre for Orang Asli Concerns (COAC) who highlights how the community still face discrimination and hardship, despite a change of government.

And as a further hike in the minimum wage is being mooted across 57 urban centres, discussion turns to the potential problems in implementation. One thing is for sure, both workers and small business owners are still feeling the pinch. We speak to Ensingan who works in the hotel line who is cautiously happy about the new minimum but also mourns the old system of service points where employees effectively got a share of the profits. Then we speak to both business owner and worker, as Jennarino Jeraki, Iban singing star and small business owner, already paying over the newly proposed rate, tells us how he would dearly love to pay more, if only his contract for grass-cutting allowed it. His worker, Awang Dahlan, on the other hand, appreciates the value of a good boss, choosing to work with him now for several years, but shares the difficulties of making ends meet as 2020 fast approaches.

Dalam Program diungkupka lemaitu, iya ti penudi sebedau kami belelak enda lama musin Pengerami Hari Krismas ti deka datai tu ila.  Pastor Gremmand merika kami Jaku Pesan Krismas lalu kami ninga ari orang ti diau di Batu Niah ke benung caroling, enda ngira kandang menua nya kena laban penusah bah.

Udah nya, bisi berita ti enda disadang nyadi antara kompeni kebun sawit ti pemadu besai enggau raban bansa asal.  Agnes ari Dijih bisi bekunsika berita enggau kami pasal Dandang Kebun Besai Ta Ann, ke bisi ngaga semaya enggau orang ba kampung nya, ke madahkka tanah ngelingi Ladang Satu, Mukah, diberi ngagai sida nitihka Provisional lease [PL]. Orang di endur nya ngetau buah sawit lalu nganjung ngagai kilang. Ta Ann bempu share 10 peratus lalu semua sida berasai gaga ati.  Tang siti penanggul, iya nya siku ari sida di endur nya deka nengali semua asil 90 peratus nya serta mengkang tinggal ba rumah quarters ladang ke udah ditinggal ka kompeni lalu nyerungkai cherita nya.  Sida bukai deka ka asil nya dibagi sama rata serta ngarapka sida ulih ngiga jalai ke tau kena mutarka pekara tu enggau chara ti manah.

Rumah Daniel di Sri Aman udah angus dalam minggu tu, ngujungka ka semua penusah angus rumah dalam semanjai taun tu, lebih 20 bengkah.  Kami bisi berandau enggau Anyi Ngau ari Uma Bawang, ke bempu rumah panjai ke angus dalam pun taun tu, ke nerang ngagai kami pasal chara sida ngepun ka pengidup enggau ngaga rumah ti baru. Udah nya, Tuan John Sangun ari Opis Bomba bekunsika pemedis sida madam ka api ba endur ti jauh bakanya. Nya-alai sida semina ulih meri jaku lalau ti beguna pasal chara sida bejalaika pengawa.  

Lebuh Perintah menua Selangor ngeluarka jaku penerang dalam minggu tu, ke madah ka perintah menua nya deka numbuhka komiti baru, kena ngemataka penglantang pendiau orang Asli di menua nya. Kami bisi berandau enggau Dr. Colin Nicholas ari Palan Orang Asli, ke madahka raban Orang Asli agi balat bendar kena tindas enggau pemedis sida ngidupka diri, taja perintah di menua nya udah beganti.

Ngenang pasal pengawa ti nikika gaji bulan ka pengereja pengawa ba 57 bengkah palan dikandang nengri, dia jurai pasal tu tau ngujungka penanggul lebuh bejalaika atur ti baru nya. Siti ari utai ti tau nyadi, iya nya bala pengereja pengawa enggau orang ti bempu dagang mit tentu enda lantang ati sentang pekara tu. Kami bisi berandau enggau Ensingan ke gawa ba hotel, ke berasai rindu ati ninga gaji nya ditikika tang mega enda lantang ati ka atur lama ti meri service point, ke alai pengereja pengawa sama bulih untung. Ditu kami bisi betanya ari orang ti bempu dagang mit enggau pengereja pengawa, Jennarino Jeraki, siku ari penyanyi Iban ti tebilang serta bisi business ti enda besai, udah mayar chukai nitihka atur ti baru diperambu nya. Iya madah ngagai kami, iya tentu rindu ati mayar lebih, enti semina bempu contract nebas rumput.  Siku orang ti gawa ka iya, Awang Dahlan beterima kasih laban iya bos ti chukup manah, ke udah milih iya gawa ka iya dalam berapa taun tu ke udah, tang setuju mega enggau mayuh bengkah pemedis ngidupka diri laban taun 2020 nyau semak.
