On today’s show, we look at local amenities – namely water and electricity – often still scarce in rural areas. Tuai Rumah Unya of Ulu Skrang sees Sarawak Energy putting up pylons on his land, passing right next to his kampung. But they get nothing in return as the state electricity company insists this is ‘government land’. James Randi of Bintulu, meanwhile, bemoans the lack of water and electricity supply in his area. He asks what both the State and Federal Governments are going to do about it. Enter YB Jugah Muyang, the new elected representative for Lubok Antu who ran on an independent ticket and then joined PH in the wake of May 9. He talks about his efforts to provide basic amenities to his constituents and future plans to improve. Finally, Matek anak Geram catches us up on environmental issues concerning quarries and water catchments, a massive threat across the state to public health.

In part two, last week’s land rights forum left many activists with a feeling of frustration as questions remained unanswered. Sidi Munan, President of the Sarawak Dayak Iban Association (SADIA) shares his feelings and puts forward the questions that remain hanging in the wake of the forum, especially with respect to the State Government’s obsession with the Section 6 survey while the Settlement Survey under Part V of the Land Code remains suspended. After this, Romuald Siew of Niah highlights his own issues arising from the palm oil plantation that rings his community.

We end with Andrew Paul who is concerned that rural children are somehow not making the most of their education, even when they have access to it. He is rolling out a program to impart higher order thinking skills and to address the prioritization of education within these communities.
