                    1. In the case of illegal logging in the Lijan Julau river, the residents of 15 longhouses made a report to SPRM alleging that forest department officials conspired with logging companies to make illegal logging a success. Forest department officials lied stating that the Majistic company had been given a logging license. But in fact no license or permission was given to log in the Lijan river area.

                    2. Najib Razak's son was appointed as a member of the board of directors of Matrade - Malaysia's foreign trade development corporation. The matter was announced by Matrade chairman Reeza Merican. Najib's daughter - Nooryana Najwa is said to be highly qualified and capable.

Andrew Paul, General Secretary of SADIA

Betrayed by Authorities: MACC Investigation Reveals Forest Department Corruption

Andrew shared information about the illegal logging case that happened in the Lijan Julau river. A company called Majistic Sdn.Bhd has several times entered the forest area in the Lijan river in Julau. But protested by the villagers. However, the third entry was unsuccessfully contested because the company stated that they had obtained a valid logging license. Residents checked with the Sibu forest department, and forest department officials confirmed that indeed the company had been awarded a logging license in the Lijan river area. Because the population is not satisfied, even though it has been protested. But a fixed log license is also issued. Residents of 15 longhouses in the Lijan river made a report to sprm in Kuching. After being investigated by MACC - it was proven that the company did not have a logging license. The officer in the forest department referred to turned out to be lying. SPRM's investigation also proved that 4 house harvesters/village heads admitted to receiving rm300 per month to agree to logging. The residents were very angry and dissatisfied because the company, despite objections, still brought in logging machinery. Even if they are given a logging license, permission from the villagers is still required. Residents submit this case for SPRM investigation and hope that all parties involved will be prosecuted and punished. For now the logging works have been stopped and all the logging machines have been taken out - said Andrew Paul.

Flooding in Baram: Where Are the YBs?

Paul Wan shared his sorrow regarding the flood problems in the Baram area. With the unpredictable weather and constant rain, Paul expressed his disappointment that the three ADUN representatives in Baram seem indifferent to the plight of the people affected by the floods.

In some flooded areas, only the representatives of the YB (Yang Berhormat) showed up, while the YBs themselves did not come to the ground to assess the situation. This flood issue occurs repeatedly every year, yet no significant action has been taken to address the severe flood crisis in Baram during the rainy season.

Paul hopes that the authorities will take immediate and concrete steps to mitigate the impact of the floods and not continue to neglect the welfare of the people in Baram. The frequent floods have caused hardship and disruption to the lives of the residents, and they demand better preparedness and attention from their elected leaders.

Breaking Barriers: Sabah Workshop Calls for More Women in State Assembly

Project SAMA along with partners Bait Al Amanah and Power had organized women empowerment in politics workshop on 7-8 October in Kota Kinabalu Sabah. As per a research that women are not represented in State Assembly. Only 8 percents .

That's mean more than 90 percents are dominated by men decession. So in the workshop a mechanism was introduced that could increase women representation in state assembly via women owe additional seats. As per Sabah constitutional , other than the elected representatives through election. There are 6 seats need to be appointed. The government can just appoint anyone. so they proposed that 6 seats to be for women, and that would just a very minimal increase plus 8 percents only . That is still way to reach 30 percents.
