*Forests don't need to be destroyed, but they can still provide great benefits*
A briefing was held regarding UBFA - UPPER BARAM FOREST AREA held on Wednesday.
According to Peter Kallang, the project is nearing implementation stage. It will involve an area of 283,500 hectares, covering 32 villages in forest areas. This is the only project in Sarawak that involves forest conservation with the participation of three countries and several local and international NGOs.
Malaysia, Korea, and Japan have expressed their commitment to contribute in terms of expertise, research, and finance. Meanwhile, several local and international NGOs will also do the same.
The UBFA project will go through several phases such as reforestation, road/bridge/infrastructure construction, telecommunications, and water resources. Several committees have been formed to ensure that each plan runs smoothly. Although there are still logging concession areas within the UBFA area, UBFA management will ensure that every logging activity adheres to the concept of environmental sustainability.
So far, logging has destroyed the environment and left forest destruction and river pollution to indigenous people. However, with the new concept of UBFA, logging may be replaced with better forest benefits such as "carbon traps". Simply put, forests don't need to be destroyed, but the benefits of the forest should be returned to the indigenous people. Peter believes that with the sincerity shown by the communities involved, the project is likely to succeed.---------------

*Don't hesitate to make an application, we'll assist you*
Irene Chang is dedicated to assisting Sarawakians who do not have a Malaysian identity card to apply for one. She explains that many people still do not understand what the different colors of the card represent in terms of identity.
ICs of a different colour represent different resident status. they all represent different resident statuses
Most people will know about and have seen the blue card otherwise known as MyKad. Those are usually issued to Malaysian citizens at the age of 12 and shows that they are full-fledged citizens of the country.
If they have a red card otherwise known as MyPR, they are residents of Malaysia with a permanent resident status. For those with a green card or MyKAS, they are temporary residents, their card will need to be renewed every 5 years.
She explained that it is possible to apply to change from MyPR or MYKAS to MyKad, but the required conditions are complex, including the necessary documents and proof of good conduct and behavior, among other requirements, in order to make an application and wait for approval.
In the past, many applications were not approved, and although it is now a unity government, it is not yet time to judge how effective the unity government is in making the process of applying for a Malaysian identity card more convenient.
However, regardless of the government, people facing citizenship issues need to make their applications immediately in order to quickly resolve citizenship issues and obtain the benefits that citizens are entitled to.
People who facing the Mykad application problem, can contact RFS with hotline +60 13-551 5219.

Nicholas Mujah, General Secretary of Sadia
*EU regulations are applied to ensure long-term environmental sustainability*
The EU is not cruel enough to block the sale of palm oil from smallholders, but the regulation is aimed at protecting the environment in the long term. According to Mujah, the EU will continue to purchase Malaysian palm oil as long as it complies with the criteria for sustainable palm oil cultivation. The EU has given a grace period of up to five years for compliance. The criteria include legal land ownership and proper licensing, respect for the rights, culture, and customary practices of indigenous communities, and the sustainability of the environment, including protected forest areas, water catchment areas, and historical and community interest areas. As long as everyone adheres to these regulations, the EU has no problem buying their commodity. Mujah emphasized that enforcing the EUDR regulations is crucial in addressing unethical land grabbing and deforestation of indigenous lands that are rampant in Sarawak.

Voon Lee Shan, President of Parti Bumi Kenyalang
*If there is a special holiday for Hari Raya, then the festivals of the Indian or Dayak communities should also have special holidays to show fairness*
Voon Lee Shan opines that having too many additional public holidays would not augur well for the country’s economy.
even the Mydin owner Ameer Ali Mydin also mentioned that, he additional public holiday for Hari Raya will put an unnecessary financial burden on businesses, his hypermarket business is set to lose RM500,000 because of it.
He said that the sudden increase in holidays would require employers to bear the cost of their employees' leave, and this cost would be passed on to goods or service providers, resulting in a chain reaction. As a result, consumers will face the problem of rising prices.
Voon said the special holidays for Raya is good news for working people, but, if one thinks carefully, this is not good news to working people, if there are too many leaves and holidays in the country. This is because leave and holidays can affect the economy and cause inflation.
In addition, excessive school holidays can also affect students' learning. Especially with the shift to online learning due to the past pandemic, it has been proven that the effectiveness is limited. Therefore, the lack of class time can slow down the progress of learning. Too many special holidays can also lead to difficulties in completing official duties, which must be extended continuously, resulting in inefficient work.
As Malaysia is a country with a diverse population, he also believes that if there are special holidays for Hari Raya, then other races, including Indians' festivals or Dayak's festivals, should also have special holidays to ensure fairness to every ethnic group.
For example, the Harvest Festival of the indigenous in east Malaysia, should not be limited to just Sabah and Sarawak holidays, but should be a national holiday. This would allow people from West Malaysia to travel to East Malaysia and learn about the customs and traditions of the region.
