Is Our Confidence Finally Being Tested? | Broadcast 8 May 2020
ENGLISH - On today’s show, the no confidence motion tabled against PM8 Muhyiddin Yassin by PM7 Mahathir Mohamad is off again, on again. With Sarawak DUN sitting on 11 May and parliament on 18 May, the nation is wondering whether there will be any more about faces in Malaysian politics within the next weeks.
YB Wong Chen gives us his opinion on why the speaker originally rejected the motion but calls for parliament to have their say. With so much going on in the nation, oversight is essential, not just on the massive spending and data collection plans but also on the validity of the leadership.
Then YB Jugah Moyang tells us that the Dewan speaker should show respect to the blessing of the Agong on PM8, but that the issue will be addressed sooner or later, if not in this sitting at least in the next. He also tells us of his travels through Lubok Antu distributing aid, often from his own pocket.
Then YB Kelvin Yii expresses horror that there should even be an ‘SGH cluster’, let alone one of this size. It puts all at risk, from the frontliners themselves to the patients in their care, many with underlying health conditions. The government must do all they can to protect these public servants, though so far they don’t even seem to have done a proper investigation into the source of the cluster. Then he looks at the economic agenda announced by the Chief Minister. All very well, he says, as we look way way into the future. But what about the here and now? As businesses go under and people go out of work, he wonders who will be left standing to enjoy the delights of some far off day.
We end with a student, previously stranded but now relieved to be shipped back home to Miri. This has been arranged by the government and thankfully all health precautions have been followed, including a socially distanced bus journey.
