  • Iswardy Morni, Political analyst

*Voting GPS Out as a Path to Transforming into a Prosperous State*

YB Fazzrudin, The chief political secretary of the Premier of Sarawak is also a member of the Tupong state legislative assembly, rejecting the assumption that Sarawak is a rich state but many people are poor. He also questioned the e-kasih data.

Iswardy challenges YB Fazz to submit alternative data - if you don't believe in e-kasih data. The e-kasih data is managed by the National Bank Data Center and Innovations- Detailing the name, address, income, education, occupation and dependents of a family head. Questioning the validity of data from an accredited agency is unwise, however you can submit data that may be more accurate. Iswardy argued - it is illogical for a state with an average annual income of 12 billion to fail to eradicate poverty. The population of Sarawak is only around 2.5 million people. However, the people of Sarawak remain poor because the wealth of Sarawak is monopolized by a certain group only and the Sarawak government's policy maintains a large number of poor people so that it is easy to manipulate. The easy way is to change the GPS, the people of Sarawak will be free from the shackles of poverty. Iswardy reminded the people of Sarawak to vote wisely to change their own socio-economics.

John Brian Anthony, Permanent Chairman of the PBDS partY

*GPS’s Wealth, Yet People Remain Poor*

John revealed what Pending Member of Parliament Violet Yong said in the current Sarawak state assembly session. According to Violet During a recent work trip to London. Sarawak Premier Abang Jo and his entourage use a luxury Airbus ACJ319 jet with an hourly rental of RM84,127. John Brian asked that such actions be stopped immediately because it is a wasteful, irresponsible use of public funds. While many Sarawakians are poor, basic facilities are not complete. There should be no wasteful state government leaders. Using a business class flight is enough- says John.

GPS and Abang Jo are proud of Sarawak earning RM12 billion last year. But the use of this money is not transparent and is not used up due to the inefficiency of the GPS administration in Sarawak. Compared to the PH administration in Selangor with only a budget of RM2.45 billion - the people of Selangor as many as 6 million benefited and their welfare was protected. John asked the people of Sarawak to stop supporting GPS because GPS policies only benefit their cronies and party leaders and let the people remain poor expecting cash/favor money from political leaders.

    George from Miri

*What Did Taib Mahmud Do About MA63 During His Tenure as Chief Minister of Sarawak?*

Taib Mahmud urges the Federal Government to promptly address Sarawak's claims regarding the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), the Inter-Governmental Committee Report, and the Federal and state constitutions. He made these remarks on Monday, May 15, during the opening of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly meeting.

George comments that this matter should have been addressed decades ago when ` Taib Mahmud was the Chief Minister. He questions why it wasn't raised at that time and why it is only being brought up now. Even the GPS government sent representatives to London to gather facts and evidence, but no information from their fact-finding mission has been made public. It shows that GPS has not prioritized the rights of the people of Sarawak in the past. The current government led by Anwar Ibrahim is already handling the issue, so there is no need for Taib and GPS to raise this issue and make this as credit at this time.

    *Organize Campaign Against Teacher Absenteeism*
There have been two cases of extreme teacher absenteeism that are interrelated. The first case involved Siti Nafira in 2018, while the second case was filed by four plaintiffs in 2020, both against the same defendants. The trial for the 2020 case was completed last year, but the judgment is still pending and expected to be delivered this year. As for Siti Nafirah's trial, it began just last Monday, and based on our experience with the 2020 case, the trial is likely to take several months.

During the trial, it was revealed that Nafirah and her classmates were forced to write and sign a letter to persuade the absent teacher to resume teaching. At that time, the teacher had already been absent for two months, causing concern among Nafirah and her classmates as they were approaching their exams. They felt compelled to write the letter due to the urgency of the situation.

Initially, the response from the public and parents regarding the case was not very encouraging, perhaps because many people did not fully understand the details of the case. However, once the case was filed in court and gained momentum, especially through widespread coverage on social media, the response from the public became more encouraging.

The next step in the campaign against teacher absenteeism involves raising awareness through initiatives such as documentaries highlighting these cases and working to enhance public awareness on the issue. Efforts are underway to address and combat this problem effectively.
