【BERITA UTAMA】

Oscar Ling, Vice President of DAP Sarawak cum MP for Sibu – We want local election in every level, vital for democracy

Most of the constituencies that GPS won were rural. When appointing local leaders, they must be out of the control of the government, because this is not democratic. At present, there are only federal elections and state elections in Malaysia, but local elections must be held. It is up to the people to choose who is the village chief, counselor and other local officials. That's one of the things we're fighting for right now. There are only two in one in Malaysia. But in Taiwan there are nine in one, and there are elections at every level. From the country to the state, from the state to the district, from the town to the village, there should be democratic procedures and the people should elect them.

Many states have changed political parties, but Sarawak has never changed. GPS-BN is still in power since independence. As a result, many developments and policies have not been implemented according to the people, but he believes that there will be changes in the future. The people will learn from other states, such as the Selangor government giving free insurance to the people of Selangor. He believes that the people of Sarawak will see the development of other states and make changes in Sarawak’s elections.
