Boyce Ngau Anyie, Vice Chairman of GCRAC (Gerenai Community Rights Action Committee).
*Local Resident Boyce Challenges APS Chairman's Criticism of Save Rivers in Baram*
An NGO named Advokasi Pribumi Sarawak (APS) has recently criticized SAVE Rivers in relation to the Samling lawsuit. They also supported Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau's statement in March, where he expressed support for logging companies due to the job opportunities they bring to the orang ulu community.
However, locals, including Boyce from Loh Moh in the interior of Baram, are unaware of the existence of APS and its Executive Chairman Nigel Raymond.
Boyce emphasized that Nigel and APS are completely unknown in Baram. He further stated that the 5 million defamation lawsuit filed by Samling Plywood against Save Rivers is an attempt to intimidate local residents into refraining from speaking out against Samling's logging activities near their homes in the Panjang area. Samling claims that Save Rivers issued a false statement without the consent of local residents regarding logging in the Gerenai FMU Area.
However, communities in Long Moh and Lepo Agak have asserted that they were not informed or in agreement with the logging activities. Samling is demanding 5 million in damages, an apology, and a commitment from Save Rivers not to repeat the alleged defamatory statement.
Boyce stressed that Samling's actions will not silence them, and they will continue to speak out and protest against logging in their area. Samling has attempted to present their logging activities as environmentally sustainable through the use of FMU (Forest Management Unit) terms. However, according to Boyce, the logging activities remain unchanged from before. The lawsuit is scheduled to resume on September 18-20, 2023.

Murni, a representative lawyer from Lawyer Kamek for Change
*Police Interview with Save Rivers Chairman Peter Kallang: Reminder for Future Court Gatherings*
After the court case in the Miri High Court on Monday, where Samling sued SAVE Rivers for alleged defamation, the chairman of Save Rivers, Peter Kallang, was called by the police for an interview at the Miri District Police Headquarters on May 23rd at 11:30 am.
On May 15th, during the trial held at the Miri Court, NGOs and CSOs were present to show their support. However, the court case was adjourned, so the supporters waited outside the court with Save Rivers' Peter Kallang for the judge to provide the next hearing date.Based on the situation at the scene, the police called the Chairman of Save Rivers to the Miri District Police Headquarters on the mentioned date and time. The session started at 11:30 am and ended at 12:00 pm.
According to Murni, a representative lawyer from the NGO Kamek, the police did not record any statement but called Peter Kallang to understand the situation based on the circumstances at that time and provided advice. They did not explicitly state that the gathering of supporters was a crime but mentioned that in the future, if there is a desire to gather at the court, a proper notice must be submitted to the police.
The lawsuit regarding Save Rivers has been postponed until September 18-20, 2023.

Supporters from Dayak Bukit Kelingkang Miri Branch
*Dayak Bukit Kelingkang show Solidarity as Save Rivers Chairman Peter Kallang is called by Police in Samling Lawsuit*
Dayak Bukit Kelingkang learned that Save Rivers Chairman Peter Kallang was called by the police, and today the Miri Branch member went to the Miri District Police Headquarters to given moral support. Wats Gerald and Robert stated that this concerns the Dayak community, so whether it's the Kayan, Kenyah, or Orang Ulu, anyone related to the Dayak community must provide moral support.
It is understood that this is a lawsuit between Samling and Save Rivers. They do not agree with Samling's claim that Save Rivers' statement is false. Save Rivers represents the indigenous people, and our understanding is that the authorities' residents did not encroach on the land.

Mr James from Kampung Usaha Jaya Tukau
*Villagers in Kampung Usaha Jaya Tukau Miri Seek Justice Over Land Transfer*
Today, a report from Kampung Usaha Jaya Tukau Miri by Mr. James stated that a petition by the villagers of Kampung Usaha Jaya Tukau Miri is currently underway and will soon be submitted to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (SPRM) office. The petition aims to sue the Department of Land and Survey, which has resulted in their land being transferred to Parabena. However, the land was granted to them by former Chief Minister of Sarawak, KM Tok Nan, during his tenure, with the intention of providing land for the poor to build affordable homes. The villagers are gathering strong evidence to support their claim of ownership over the land.-————————-
