Chiew Urges Voters to Reject Old-fashioned Politics in Upcoming Elections

Chiew took a place to debate several issues in this parliamentary meeting. Chiew in this conference will present some problems and proposed solutions to the problems of the people of Miri and Sarawak in general. Among the problems raised is the expansion of Miri airport to accommodate the increasing number of flights. Also to accommodate the number of tourists. Building a road connecting Miri with the resort of Mulu. Build a flyover at the Pujut roundabout to overcome traffic congestion and the expansion of Miri Hospital. Yesterday Chiew criticized a member of parliament from the PAS Party who labeled LGBT people as mentally ill. According to Chiew, PAS members of parliament are too desperate and old-fashioned. For example Coldplay honsert, Switch watch is associated with LGBT. Almost all issues they politicize. Chiew reminded voters in 6 states that will hold elections next July. In order to stay away from political parties that are old-fashioned and under the guise of religion.

Ann Teo, Chairman of ROSE (The Rise of Social Efforts)
*Amendment to Interpretation Ordinance Yet to be Officially Implemented*

The Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) has been informed that further deliberations and reviews are required before enforcing the proposed conditions and requirements of the Interpretation (Amendment) Ordinance 2022. Minister John Sikie Tayai stated that the conditions and requirements for recognizing natives of Sarawak, including citizens and natural-born children of indigenous people, have already been drafted and discussed by government agencies. However, due to the complexity and importance of the matter, additional deliberation and review are necessary to ensure the suitability and practicality of the proposed conditions. The delay in enforcing the Ordinance aims to prevent inconvenience to the people of Sarawak and protect their special position and rights as outlined in the Federal Constitution.

However, Ann Teo from ROSE (The Rise of Social Efforts) has questioned John Sikie about the prolonged time it is taking to gazette the amendment. The amendment was tabled and approved in November 2021 under Article 161A and received further approval in 2022. Its purpose was to include children whose parents are of indigenous descent.
Despite its approval, the amendment to the interpretation ordinance has not been enforced or gazetted yet. Ann Teo comments that this is a result of poor drafting of the law by the state legal department, and suggests that all stakeholders and government agencies should have been consulted before the amendment was tabled, rather than after. She emphasizes that this is not subsidiary legislation.

*Rights Violation: Activist Criticizes KDN's Seizure of LGBT-Related Merchandise*
Malaysia’s Home Affairs Ministry seized rainbow-coloured Swatch watches under the brand’s Pride Collection, with 11 stores reportedly raided last week. The collection features watches in six colors that match the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community flag.

Chris, an independent journalist and an activist, has condemned the action taken by the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) in confiscating LGBT-symbolized watches, as it is seen as a violation of business rights without prior notice or warning.

In addition to being deeply disappointed, Mr. Chris criticizes the fact that some Members of Parliament from the PN coalition categorize LGBT individuals as mentally ill, despite the fact that they are also human beings with human rights and contribute to the country. It is believed that LGBT individuals, like everyone else, have the capacity and education to contribute to the nation's progress.

    Richard Engan from Baram
*GPS focusing on Urban Areas while Neglecting Rural Communities in Sarawak*

Sarawak's Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Julaihi Narawi, stated that the water supply coverage in Sarawak has reached 84.1% as of the first quarter of this year. While urban areas have achieved a 99% coverage, only 67.8% of rural areas have been covered.

for the rural people, this situation is not new, as the government has often highlighted progress in rural areas, but the water supply coverage has never reached 100% in those regions.

Richard Engan from Baram recalls the rural development plans from decades ago, mentioning that Marudi could have been developed according to the original proposal. The plan included building a road up to Ulu Linei in the 1970s and extending it to Limbang later on. However, when the state government took over rural development, the original plans were canceled, and the focus shifted to urban and coastal areas, neglecting rural areas.

Engan believes that if the Ulu Linei road had been constructed, Tutoh Apoh and Mendamit areas would have also experienced development.

These observations shed light on the development situation in Sarawak, where natural resources are abundant but not fully utilized for overall development. Engan suggests that a significant portion of Sarawak's natural resources is being diverted elsewhere, while development remains exclusive to specific locations. He emphasizes the importance of standing up for the truth and urges Dayaks to be bold and not easily deceived.
