  • [TOP STORY]

We asked Roland how he and Sarawak PKR can help Penan Ba Abang - the issue of forest encroachment/logging and how to solve the problem of appointing the head of Penan Ba Abang Village.

Roland explained that this problem stems from the permission given by a village chief (Arun Nyaling) to the logging company, to log in the Ba Abang Area. Roland has represented the majority of Penan Ba Abang to request the court to make a judicial review whether the appointment of Arun Nyaling is valid or not. If the court finds his appointment invalid. Then automatically the permission he gave to logging company GT Interhill to log will be cancelled. The court's decision will be known at the end of February or March 2023. The majority of Penan Ba Abang agree with Panai Erang as their Village Head.

Roland explained that one of the terms of the Unity government is that any development work involving the land and forest of the original people must obtain permission first. In this case, only Arun Nyaling agreed. While the majority of others objected. The chances of Penan woman Patricia Helen and friends winning in this case are very bright.
