  In the Sarawak CM's speech at the Gawai Dayak dinner at BCCK Kuching last weekend. The CM of Sarawak said that the Sarawak government is committed to advancing and improving the living standards of the Dayak people. The CM of Sarawak also requested that the Dayak people work hard to develop their land and achieve excellence in Education. John praised the Sarawak CM's speech as the sweet words of a politician.

  According to John, in order to advance the Dayak people, the Sarawak government must be fair. The Dayak people's land ownership rights and consolidation of land should be expedited. Yayasan Pendidikan Sarawak should provide assistance without favoritism so that the Dayaks are also given scholarships to continue their studies abroad. After that, there should be a balanced composition in the state civil service. Currently the Dayaks are only given low-ranking positions. More importantly, political power should not be controlled by just one race. Dayak people should also be given the opportunity to become Premier and TYT. John also blamed the Dayaks who were in the Sarawak GPS government. Because they are afraid and do not dare to present an argument to oppose the monopoly of power by the Malays. They are afraid because they want to stay in the position, salary and position they currently have. Even though the majority of Dayaks are poor.

  *More Than Three MyKad Applications Reported in Baram*

  According to the Minister of Home Affairs, Saifuddin Nasution said only three citizenship applications were received from Baram between 2018 and 2022. Out of these applications, two were approved, and the applicants were granted citizenship. Currently, there are 946 pending applications from Sarawak, specifically made under Article 15A of the Federal Constitution. The Minister assured that these applications will be completed by June this year. The information was provided in response to a query by Baram MP Anyi Ngau during a parliamentary session.

  Komeok expressed that he has more than just three applications in his possession, and he is puzzled as to why the authorities claim to have received only three applications. He highlighted one applicant who is over 50 years old and has been waiting for several years without any response regarding their Malaysian Identity Card (MyKad). Instead, the relevant authorities have been passing the applicant from one department to another, with countless forms being filled out, yet the MyKad has not been issued. Komeok stated that the issue of MyKad is not limited to the Penans alone but also affects other indigenous groups in Sarawak, including the Kenyah community. He urged the government to pay attention to the MyKad application issue faced by indigenous people in Sarawak. Komeok pointed out that the lack of MyKad poses numerous obstacles in education and healthcare for inland residents, especially for children who are unable to enroll in schools and patients who have to bear high medical expenses. He hopes that the government will thoroughly investigate the applications in Baram alone, which are more than just three, and swiftly resolve all MyKad applications.

  *Working in Another State? Still No Postal Voting Option Available for Voters*

  In the upcoming elections for the six states of Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Penang, Selangor, and Negeri Sembilan, their respective State Legislative Assemblies will dissolve by the end of this June. The Election Commission (SPR) will then have 60 days to conduct state elections simultaneously.

  SPR has announced that starting from June 15, all eligible individuals can apply for postal voting. Bersih appreciates this initiative by SPR, as Bersih had previously called for early applications for postal voting. This allows ample time for those who reside abroad, categorized as 1B applicants, to apply. Additionally, category 1A applicants include members of the armed forces, police, SPR officers, and the media. Category 1C is designated for security agencies and medical personnel.

  Unfortunately, voters who are in other states will have to return to their respective states to vote. There have been previous requests for voters residing in other states, particularly Sabah and Sarawak voters working or studying in West Malaysia, to be allowed postal voting or early voting. However, SPR has yet to announce this method as of now.

  *The Devastating Impact of Logging and the Call for Action to Combat Heat*

  On Ellen nino is getting weak, of course very much affect the livelihoods of our communities, especially the farmers.

  Right now we already experiencing heat. So we must find ways to fight against heat.

  Currently many rural people no awareness on climate change.

  And this climate change is definitely due to rampant logging activities since in the 1980s till now. All our forest are gone, and that's why we are experiencing extreme heat. There is no other cause except logging activities, where all the trees are chopped off and cause climate change.

  On 264 cases illegal logging recorded in sarawak, that is a very shocked numbers. This might be due to MCO during pandemic, as no one can do monitoring and furthermore we found it quite difficult to get informations during that time.

  So he suggests that the state govt must monitor all logging activities or stop releasing licence to those companies.

  Trees are very important to our livelihoods as it is able to minimise the temperature and produce carbons.

  In his village the forest have been logged and the community now already started replanting programme and hopes other communities also do the same thing

  *No Fraud, No Shady Actions on Pan Borneo Project*

  In a statement issued last week, PMX Anwar Ibrahim, expressed his commitment to expedite the Pan Borneo Highway Project in Sabah and Sarawak through a fast-track approach. The project, which commenced in July 2016, involves 35 work packages spanning 706 kilometers, starting from the border of Sabah and Sarawak in Sindumin and extending to Tawau.

  Anwar said when he attended a program in UMS : “I want this matter to be resolved and initiated this year for the project to be completed. This is the new way of the government, no wastage, no fraud, no shady actions”

  Despite that, its construction was hindered when there was a change in government from the era of Tun Mahathir to Tan Sri Mahiaddin and then to Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri, and swift action was not taken to restore its construction according to the schedule.

  George comments that the existing completed sections of the road seem messy, with one side being built and then switched to the other side. There is not a single road that is complete, making driving on the Pan Borneo Highway highly dangerous. He believes that the road construction plans were not well-executed, but he also emphasizes that the contractors should not be solely blamed for this. The government should provide clear instructions and guidance in this regard.

  Currently, many sections of the road, although initially built, quickly become uneven and damaged, especially due to the heavy traffic of large trucks. George believes that the highways in Peninsular Malaysia have better quality and suggests referring to them as a benchmark. He expresses that the funding provided by the government should be sufficient for road construction. However, the issue lies in Sarawak where the project is often subcontracted, resulting in limited funds reaching the end. As a consequence, the quality of the constructed roads is poor.

  *PMX want “Segulai Sejalai”, meands No one left Behind*

  As a person of Iban nationality, Thomas felt proud when PMX raised the theme of Segulai Sejalai as the theme of national unity. According to Thomas, the meaning of segulai sejalai is "progress together". This means that PMX wants all races in Malaysia to progress together and that no one is left behind in backwardness and poverty. Thomas also agreed with the recommendation of UPM political science professor, Prof Datuk Dr. Jayum Jawan. The phrase Segulai is appropriate in implementing the national unity agenda. Thomas acknowledged that the Iban people are a very divided nation in politics, also poor and backward. Therefore, because of that with the leadership of PMX Thomas hopes that the iban people will be able to unite to support him. Thomas also reprimanded the Iban leaders in the Long houses who still cannot accept the leadership of PMX - where there are still Long houses that have not put the Prime Minister's poster on the Ruai of their Long houses. On the other hand, there is still a poster/picture of the previous prime minister. Thomas insists that is a backwards attitude. Anwar Ibrahim is far more capable than Najib Razak, Muhyiddin Yassin is even more open than Tun Mahathir. The Iban people should unite to support PMX and should propose that Iban language faculties be established in local universities.

  Rampant logging activities lead to increasingly hotter climate

  The country is expected to experience a weak El Nino phenomenon starting this month, which will escalate to a moderate level by November, according to the Minister of Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad. He stated that this phenomenon is expected to result in a reduction of rainfall by 20 to 40 percent from June to October, particularly in the southern states of Peninsular Malaysia, western Sarawak, and eastern Sabah

  Willie claimed that his Long house has been experiencing hot and dry weather for the past month so much so that the creek that supplies tap water to the residents of Long Terawan has dried up. Residents had to take water from the Tutoh river which was quite far from their Long houses. Not only that, the weather they faced this year according to Willie was unusual (abnormal) than the previous year. The weather is dry so that the rice crop does not grow. He compare to the past decades, and think that the cause is human activity such as excessive logging and the release of pollutants from industry.

  Willie requested that the authorities take appropriate action.

  Dominic Langat from Ulu Baram

  Tutoh Bridge was broken 2years ago, till now no repair done

  In May 2021, continuous heavy rain caused the Tutoh Bridge in the interior of Baram to collapse. This bridge was the only connection between Long Kawa and Long Bedian. However, even after two years, the bridge remains neglected. Earlier, the Member of Parliament called on the logging companies to take responsibility for repairs, but neither the Sarawak government nor the logging companies have taken any action.

  Dominic Langat stated that in the past, the logging companies operating in the area were responsible for bridge maintenance and road construction. However, since Samling is no longer operating in the area, they have ignored the issue of the broken bridge. This is a problem that the Sarawak government should be responsible for, but neither the parliamentary nor state assembly members have taken any steps to address it.

  As a result, the residents on the other side of the bridge are unable to reach Miri and are forced to take a longer route to Limbang, which costs nearly RM800 per trip. This is an additional burden, and the road to Limbang is more dangerous and distant. Moreover, what about those in need of medical treatment? Where can they go?

  He urged the GPS representatives Anyi Ngau to immediately address this issue and also resolve the road problems in the interior of Baram.

  A Drastic Initiative to Transform Education in Remote Areas

  If we look at formation of Federal on 16 September 1963, via an agreement MA63. As per our understanding at that particular time, we are equal to that of Malaya. Meaning that Malaya is equal to Sabah and Sarawak. But after Federation was formed, we found out that there was no equality . We see that we are just being made as an invasioned part land to Malaya. So that is the reason why we are poor and neglected.

  In my researched, Sabah and Sarawak were added Malaya territory. To enlarge the territory of Malaya and got new name called Malaysia. And the cabinets are all control by Malaya. So we have a small voice. Even our parliament seats is not equal. So any policies made is not means to develop our state. We are being categorised as lower class

  All developments are all focus in Malaya. Most ministers are from Malaya, as such they are more understand the situation in Malaya and sideline Sabah and Sarawak

  So suggest that Federal must take a drastic initiative to up grade education in sarawak. Especially in the remote areas, by train local people as they are very much familiar with our own culture and livelihoods

  If those teachers from Malaya are send our to our remote areas, they will have cultural shock.

  In a news report on Sunday, Sarawak Teachers Union (STU) president Kullin Djayang had described the teachers’ shortage in Sarawak as ‘a major problem’ and ‘the reason’ for Sarawak being far behind other states in Malaysia in terms of education.

  According to the report, currently there is a shortage of over 3,000 teachers in Sarawak, where about 1,925 vacancies are for primary schools and the rest for secondary schools throughout the state.

  It also says many important subjects do not have sufficient teachers, especially in rural and outskirt primary schools.

  *The 2021 audit report debate that the opposition fear will let all Malaysians know about Muhyiddin’s problems as PM and the weaknesses of PAS and PN*

  Iswardy expects state elections in Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Pulau Pinang, Negeri Sembilan and Selangor to take place in July or August 2023. The latest findings show that PAS and PN will maintain dominance in Kelantan while the competition is fierce in Terengganu and Kedah (50/50). PH and the unity government are expected to be able to maintain the administration in 3 states, namely Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Pulau Pinang . But the results will change quickly based on the current sentiment when the DUN is dissolved.

  PAS and PPBM (PN- Perikatan Nasional) have started to attack the PMX leadership in their talks around Selangor. Azmin Ali (PPBM) and PN election director Muhammah Sanusi claimed Anwar Ibrahim is the king of liars - Anwar has failed to lower petrol prices. The value of the ringgit is getting weaker. Selangor is governed by Menteri besar Amiruddin (a person from Johor) who is not from Selangor. Anwar does not deserve to talk about poverty, because he is not from a poor family. The 1974 Baling demonstration was Anwar's way to become popular and PAS should govern Selangor and Penang so that the two states are more advanced.

  Iswardy answered - PH has started lowering the price of petrol since 2018 and the states administered by PH have shown an increase in GDP every year. On the other hand, the state governed by PAS is getting poorer until the people suffer - there is no clean water. PN and PAS claim that if they are given the opportunity to govern Selangor and Pulau Pinang . The country will be more advanced. But the fact is that the state that PAS governs is getting poorer and many young people run away to developed states such as Selangor and Pulau Pinang. According to Iswardy there is no record to show that PN and PAS are excellent at governing. Therefore their leaders slander and vilify the PMX administration to hide their weaknesses. In fact, according to Iswardy, PN and PAS leaders fear their weaknesses will be revealed when they do not allow the report of the national audit chief for 2021 to be revealed in parliament. According to Iswardy, if the report is disclosed to the public. Malaysians will know the weaknesses of the PAS/PN administration during the Muhyiddin Yassin administration era (will affect votes for PN in the elections in 6 states). PN intends to cover up all the abuses they do when there is an emergency and parliament is not allowed to sit. However, the reform of parliamentary institutions carried out by PMX allows the information in the audit report to be disclosed for public knowledge so that it is more transparent and satisfies the people's day as taxpayers.   *GPS Minister's Self-Satisfaction in Banning Illegal Logging, but Where is the Success without Arresting the Masterminds?*

  Every time we see actions taken to crack down on illegal logging, how many illegal logs have been banned, we think, these logs didn’t cut themselves, didn’t they fall down by themselves? It must have been caused by the instructions of the employees and the boss.

  However, some loggers were arrested, but no boss was dealt with. The illegal logging activities in Sarawak are endless.

  That's why we demand a tough crackdown on illegal logging, directly pointing out which companies are behind it, and who is behind it.

  Every time we see the Minister of Sarawak proudly touting the successes of the anti-illegal logging campaign, in fact millions of timbers are being harvested and the culprits are not being dealt with.

  According to the dictionary, arrest refers to the detention and investigation of persons, not the banning of objects (trees). No one was arrested, how is it called an arrest?

  The endless illegal logging activities affect the relevant communities, because the logging activities have affected their daily life, including river pollution, loss of prey, etc.

  *Roundtable discussion on Deepening Democracy in Malaysia*

  On May 9 and 10, Bersih and Global Bersih, along with the Kofi Annan Foundation, organized a roundtable discussion titled "Deepening Democracy in Malaysia" at Parliament. The objective of this discussion was to ensure the functioning of a unity government and a hung parliament. The possibility of a hung parliament occurring in the next election was also a concern due to voters splitting their support, which could affect the stability of the country.

  During the roundtable, experts with experience from other countries, such as Germany, Finland, Australia, and Canada, shared their views and best practices from mature democracies. The aim was to gain knowledge and insights from international experts to aid Malaysia's own democratic development.

  The experts discussed various mechanisms to establish a stable government.

  Firstly, they emphasized the importance of a constructive vote of no confidence, followed by a vote of confidence. This means that the government cannot be toppled arbitrarily but requires a structured process.

  Secondly, in the process of forming a unity government, all interested parties must engage in detailed discussions to determine common manifestos to be included in the coalition agreement. Malaysia already signed an MOU in December 2022, which highlights the significance of this unity agreement. The contents of the agreement must be comprehensive and based on resolutions reached during the discussions.

  Thirdly, the experts emphasized the importance of a shadow cabinet, where the government allocates positions to shadow ministers. These shadow ministers play a crucial role in providing checks and balances to the executive branch. They are supported to raise alternative policies and act as a government in waiting.

  Additionally, Wong Chen highlighted the need for a strong and professional public service institution, drawing inspiration from countries like Taiwan. Overall, the roundtable aimed to draw from international experiences and recommendations to establish guidelines for Malaysia's future, particularly in building a stable government and strengthening democratic institutions.

  *Political Stability is The Key to a Prosperous Economy*

  Lee Chean Chung has been appointed as a member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Finance and Economy. This PSC is headed by YB Dato' Indera Mohd Shahar bin Abdullah, Member of Parliament for Paya Besar, and consists of 8 members.

  Lee Chean Chung stated that this appointment is an important task due to the vast scope of the economy. In his position, he will be responsible for overseeing the policies and decisions of the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Foreign Investment, and other related departments. He also emphasized that he will ensure the committee operates in a fair and impartial manner.

  He acknowledged that economic challenges are not limited to Malaysia, but are prevalent in developed countries as well. However, he expressed optimism regarding Malaysia's economy, attributing its positive direction to political stability.

  The Minister of Natural Resources and Sarawak Urban Development - Awang Tengah Ali Hasan reported that 264 cases of illegal logging were recorded for the period 2020- and 2022. He said this when wrapping up the debate for his ministry in the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly. Awang Tengah also informed that the Sarawak government has established a special task force to combat illegal logging. Roland suggested that the task force include local residents, NGO leaders and community leaders.

  Relying on drones and satellite images alone is not enough - according to Roland. For Roland some things should be improved. Among them. Complaints of forest encroachment and illegal logging from rural communities should be taken seriously/action. Forest enforcement officers in an area should be fully responsible for logging cases that occur. The village head should be responsible for reporting illegal logging activities. The government should be clear about logging concessions based on previous records, location, concession, who is the main license holder and who is the logging contractor. Loggers need to answer to residents when asked, there needs to be transparency and valid maps should be easy to obtain/refer to, if necessary. And what is no less important is that the amount of wood cut should be the same as the amount declared. There are many cases where the cut wood is not the same according to Roland. So he agreed that roadblocks should be done at all bus stops - where enforcement officers can check if necessary. This was done during the Adenan Satem administration.

  Regarding the difference in the definition of illegal logging - Roland emphasized that the logging license given by the state government is not in bulk. It is strict with certain conditions. There are certain trees that cannot be cut down, there are certain lands that cannot be encroached upon and logging is permitted with the consent of the residents. If this can be followed, disputes related to logging will be overcome. Roland insisted that corruption is the cause of illegal logging. He urged the MACC to act decisively. So that the issue of illegal logging in Sarawak can be addressed.

  The Minister of Natural Resources and Sarawak Urban Development - Awang Tengah Ali Hasan reported that 264 cases of illegal logging were recorded for the period 2020- and 2022.

  The question here is why only the wood is confiscated but the person who logs is not arrested? Nick Kelesau has no confidence on the GPS operation, he wonders Is this a drama and then the company can reclaim their logs.

  Nick kelesau asked for intervention from the federal government to focus on all states that still have illegal logging activities.

  *Green Party Raises Doubts About 2 Mega Projects, Receives Letter of Demand*

  The Green Party focuses on environmental issues. They recently revealed that the Bukit Lagong quarrying case is related to the state government, and now they have raised doubts about two mega projects approved by the Selangor government.

  Over the past two years, the Selangor government proposed two mega projects: the redevelopment of the Shah Alam sports complex and the widening and deepening of the Klang River, known as the Selangor Maritime Gateway. The Shah Alam sports complex project is estimated to cost 1.5 billion, while the Selangor Maritime Gateway project is estimated to cost 700 million. These projects are being rushed before the upcoming state election. Regarding the Shah Alam stadium, it was initially proposed for refurbishment as the Public Works Department (JKR) estimated the cost to be only 200 million. The stadium's foundation is still in good condition and can last for a longer period. However, to our surprise, it was announced that the stadium would be dismantled. It appears that there are personal interests involved, as hotels, shopping complexes, and commercial centers will be built around the new stadium.

  In the case of the Klang River project, there seems to be a conflict of interest or abuse of power. The project is estimated to cost 700 million, but the government is not paying a single cent. Instead, they are swapping parcels of land along the Klang River with the contractor. Unfortunately, we are unable to obtain a clearer picture through freedom of information requests, as we received a response stating that all information is classified under the Official Secrets Act (OSA).

  After Abdul Razak Ismail's articles were published in two portals, he received a letter of demand. Not only was a LOD issued to him, but also to the two media outlets that reported Abdul Razak's revelations. Abdul Razak is urging the Prime Minister to investigate the two projects. Furthermore, the Green Party applied to the Registrar of Societies (ROS) five months ago but has not yet received approval as a political party. Therefore, the Green Party Malaysia will miss the opportunity to contest in the upcoming State Election.

  When asked if they will support any parties in the upcoming six-state election, Abdul Razak stated that the only party with the same ambition to protect the environment is PSM (Parti Socialis Malaysia). Other political parties do not seem to have made efforts to protect the environment. Even if they make promises now, they may not be able to fulfill them after winning the election.

  Persatuan Tering took a bold step to organize an awareness forum for indigenous people's rights on 14 to 17 July 2023. Located at the Pullman Hotel Miri. All natives from all over Malaysia are invited to participate in this forum. A total of 10 speakers were invited to present their research results in their respective fields of expertise. These 10 spokespersons consist of Indigenous experts who have been successful in their respective fields. Among them Dr. Jayl Langub- anthropogist, Dr. Ellie Luhat forestry and agro-agriculture expert, Dr. Roland Dom Matu- gynecologist. Epoi Datan- Chairman of Sarawak native customs.   Mrs Agnes shared with RFS about the economic problems of smallholders in the Selangau area because farm’s produce such as pepper and rubber cannot be sold because there are no buyers.

  The price of palm oil is in the 500 per ton and also has to bear the cost of very expensive fertilizers and poisons. that's why the people really hope that the central government can help solve the people's problems because the people cannot rely entirely on small aid such as BTR (Bantuan Tunai Rahmah). The people need an economy that recovers with the price of goods no longer rising from time to time. This can be seen during the Gawai festival season. many people are unable to buy festival essentials due to price pressure.

  The Legacy of Taib Mahmud: Land Seizures and Allegations of Corruption in Sarawak

  Nicholas Mujah describes the issues faced by the community in UsahaJaya Tukau, Miri, as a result of the people's lack of awareness of their rights and their failure to advocate for their permanent status. It is known that during Taib Mahmud's over 30 years in power as Chief Minister, he silently carried out land seizures, granting rights to his family members such as his sister Raziah Mahmud to obtain the land in Tukau Jaya. It is not denied that the late Tok Nan (Adenan Satem) had previously awarded the land to the people of UsahaJaya Tukau, but it should be understood that before Tok Nan became Chief Minister of Sarawak, Taib Mahmud had already been in power and it is certain that the area had already been given to his sister and Parabena Company.

  As a result, the people living on government land in Sarawak are considered temporary occupants until the authorized developer with a Provisional Lease takes over according to the law. The people have no permanent place because of the corrupt political system at play.

  However, if the people want to take action, the only way is through international law, specifically Economic Justice, which many are unaware of.

  If the people have conducted community mapping, it cannot be used to obtain grants without the approval of government agencies such as the Department of Land and Survey. However, the mapping can be used during court proceedings. Through political will, the oppressive system that affects the people can be changed.

  Urges Government to Prioritize Quality Electricity Distribution in Sarawak

  Nicholas Bawin praised the determination of SEB and the Sarawak Government to achieve full electricity supply for Sarawak by 2025. But such targets are often heard and they always fail to be achieved and after that new targets and dates are announced. According to Nicholas- the electricity supply in Sarawak is sufficient, even exceeding the requirement. Bakun 2400mw, Murum 944mw and Batang Ai 108mw. The real problem is the distribution/delivery of the electricity to the user. Especially in isolated long houses in the hinterland. Some Panjang houses have electricity but only enough to light a few light bulbs and a little for cooking. Such cases are usually for electricity supplied by SARES- Rural Electricity Supply Scheme (solar power). There is a Panjang house whose electricity transmission grid bypasses the Panjang house. But electricity is not connected to Panjang's house because it is not equipped with a transformer. Bawin requested that sufficient and quality electricity be connected to the homes of Sarawak residents before 2025. Sarawak residents are entitled to cheap and sufficient/quality electricity supply - according to Bawin. Only then is the electricity sold to neighboring countries - such as Indonesia. Bawin's statement follows that electricity from the Batang Ai Dam has been sold to Panjang houses on the Malaysia-Indonesia border in Lubok Antu. Bawin urges that certified electrical wiring contractors do their job properly to prevent fires. Bawin wants the electricity coverage percentage/statistics publicized by the government to be more than just a gimmick. It must be sufficient and of good quality so as not to harm the user.

  Empowering National Development through Media Freedom and Government Accountability

  Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim told the country's largest media gathering on Sunday journalists should have no fear of criticizing the government and promoting views even when they are in opposition with his government policies. Speaking during Malaysia's third National Journalists Day (Hawana), Anwar, who was elected into office late last year, said he encouraged the media to get rid of the old culture of writing in favor of the ruling government.

  Chris agrees that the media must be able to criticize the government without facing threats. As an independent media person who also expresses opinions through social media, he has observed that the media atmosphere under the unity government is indeed more free and secure compared to past administrations.

  He mentions that during the Mahathir era in the 1980s and 1990s, the Internal Security Act was frequently used to target dissenters, and Najib also filed multiple lawsuits against the media. He further states that Anwar Ibrahim has organized dialogue sessions to listen to the dissenting voices of different groups.

  He states that this is the epitome of an enlightened and free government, allowing the media to freely criticize government shortcomings. He also points out that independent media outlets like RFS should be welcomed by the government as they reflect the voices of the people and advocate for their interests without being aligned with any particular faction.

  PAS President Hadi Awang claimed that his party was offered a place to join the unity government led by PMX Anwar Ibrahim. Next 2 days interval, PAS Deputy President Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man acknowledged the same, but insisted that he would remain loyal to the PN led by Muhyiddin Yassin. According to Iswardy there are indeed lobbyists who do the work as alleged. But it was not done by the top leaders of the Unity government. The next question - why did this issue arise? According to Iswardy it is a psychological attack by both parties against their respective political enemies to win the elections in 6 states.

  Hadi (Team A) claimed that Pas was invited to join the unity government. But according to Anwar there was no invitation for PAS to join the unity government. But at the same time, PMX Anwar opened the doors of cooperation with Kelantan PAS leader Nik Anduh (Team B) (son of former Chief Minister Nik Aziz). This makes it difficult for PAS to move in Kelantan. Pas split into 2 teams which paved the way for defeat. Hadi is also worried about the possibility of Nik Abduh revealing the secrets of money politics / where PAS leaders receive political funds from UMNO. Hadi tried his best to show that his party is a principled political entity and asked that PAS supporters stand firm with PN and fight as a team to win elections in 6 states. Hadi insisted that - despite being offered a place in the government - his party refused because it was only given a small role - despite having the largest seat. DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang claimed that Hadi is suitable for the position of Prime Minister because PAS has the most seats (49). According to Iswardy this was Kit Siang's spicy joke against Hadi. With the cooperation of a small number of PAS leaders who are willing to expose Hadi's flaws and misbehavior. The chances of a unity government capturing Kelantan, Kedah or Terengganu are brighter - according to Iswardy.

  *Villagers Accuse Taib Mahmud Family: Protests Emerge Over Destruction of their homeland*

  Today, with the report from Mr. James of Kpg UsahaJaya Tukau Miri, it is informed that machinery from Parabena has entered the UsahaJaya village area. The villagers gathered to protest, but they were unable to stop it due to the involvement of authorities. Today, a vegetable garden belonging to the village residents was destroyed by the machinery without mercy and without compensation.   Authorities in Malaysia have seized 164 rainbow-colored Swatch watches that celebrate LGBT pride, the company said on Wednesday. Officials from the Ministry of Interior Affairs raided Swatch outlets in various malls to confiscate merchandise which bore "LGBT elements," according to one summons notice.

  Pertaining to Cosplay and a swatch watch related to LGBT issue, the way Anas see this issue in three perspective. Firstly on legal side.

  Recently YB Amirah and Muda Vice President had reacted to the said issue in legal angle where under Printing Presses and Publications Act (PPPA) 1984. The way the govt used the said law to get his watch in the spirit of law where YB Amirah is voicing out.

  Munan Laja, the Permanent Chairman of the Sarawak Dayak Iban Association (SADIA)

  *Dayak Concerns: Urgent Call for Prime Minister's Attention*

  SADIA is the largest and most active Dayak Iban association in Sarawak. Last Friday night, SADIA successfully organized a Pre-Gawai dinner in Sibu City. PMX Anwar Ibrahim has sent his Political Secretary, Chang Ming Kai, to represent him. The Sarawak state government also sent their representatives.

  In his speech, the Permanent Chairman of SADIA, Munan Laja, asked for PMX's help in addressing three problems faced by the Iban people at this time.

  Firstly, the issue of frequent Panjang house fires. From 2015 to 2021, a total of 121 Panjang houses have burned down. Munan requested PMX to consider establishing a Special Fire Unit Team for all 500 Panjang Dayak Iban houses throughout Sarawak. These specially trained teams would be able to help prevent and extinguish fires should they occur.

  Secondly, addressing the shortage of Iban language teachers, which has become a serious problem in Sarawak. According to the latest data, primary and secondary schools in Sarawak have fewer than 2,100 Iban teachers. Munan urged for measures to overcome this shortage.

  Thirdly, Munan requested the allocation of capital to develop Native Customary Rights (NCR) land. In the upcoming 2024 Budget, Munan hoped that PMX would consider appropriate allocations for this purpose. However, SADIA is aware that the biggest problem with Dayak NCR land is the lack of measurement and title deeds. Munan called for the cooperation of the federal government in providing the necessary resources to measure NCR land, while the state government should allow NCR lands to be measured under section 18.

  Munan believes that cooperation between the central and state governments in this matter will help solve the problem and benefit the people. Munan extended his wishes for a happy Gawai Dayak celebration to all the people of Sarawak.

  *Urgent Need for a Well-Equipped Hospital in Sibuti-Lambir*

  The Ministry of Health (MoH) has acquired land in Lambir for a new clinic to serve residents in the area, including Taman Tunku and surrounding neighborhoods. Deputy Health Minister cum MP for Sibuti Lukanisman expressed his commitment to prioritize the project planning. Additionally, the MoH is identifying a location for another health clinic in Bekenu. Lukanisman also mentioned that the Sepupok Clinic project in Niah has been approved but designing will take time due to its larger size compared to the clinics at Jalan Merbau and Tudan.

  Zuhaidah from Sibuti PKR stated that, Sibuti-Lambir currently has a clinic, but due to the increasing population, it is insufficient to meet the demand. Therefore, what Sibuti-Lambir needs is not just a clinic but a well-equipped hospital.

  She emphasized that Lukanisman, being both the Deputy Health Minister and the Member of Parliament for Sibuti, should be well aware of the healthcare needs in Sibuti. The current healthcare equipment is inadequate to meet the demands of the local patients, and a clinic is not sufficient to address the issue. It is only with a fully equipped hospital that the healthcare needs of the patients can be adequately met.

  Mr James informed RFS the villagers today that they are preparing blockade and monitoring in case there is any actual attempt by Parabena to demolish houses following a notice dated today, May 29, 2023.

  A warning from Parabena's law office has instructed the villagers to vacate the disputed land. So far, nothing has happened except for an excavator seen parked on the road to Kampung Usaha Jaya Tukau Miri without knowing the purpose of placing the machinery there by certain parties.

  The tering community located in the Mulu Mountains. The government has proposed building a paved road to Mulu, which has pleased the local people, but there are concerns about potential damage to the Mulu world heritage site. If the road is constructed, a checkpoint will be set up to prevent heavy vehicles and log trucks from stealing logs. There are rumors that the road construction contract will be given to Raziah Mahmud, a member of Taib Mahmud's family. Dennis Along requests that the government be fair and not exclusively award projects to Raziah, as they are already wealthy. He believes that the indigenous people should be given an opportunity as well. If the contract is still given to Taib Mahmud's family, the villagers are prepared to protest or blockade.

  There is also mention of the Sarawak Indigenous Advocacy Organization (APS), led by Nigel Raymond, who claims to campaign for environmental sustainability. However, the Baram residents have doubts and believe that APS is sponsored by certain parties to create division among local NGOs. It is believed that APS is being generously compensated for this purpose, and the concern is that the locals may be negatively affected. The responsibility for building bridges, roads, and providing education to Baram's children lies with the ruling government, not the logging companies. Regardless of the reasons Nigel may provide, the people of Baram remain against logging that damages the environment.

  The Tering Miri Association, led by Dennis Along, is one of the 160 NGOs from both local and international sources supporting the Save Rivers action. The organization is requesting that Samling drop its lawsuit against Save Rivers. Save Rivers is recognized as an organization fighting to protect the rights of indigenous people and ensure environmental sustainability. Dennis Along affirms that what Save Rivers is saying is true, and the 160 NGOs stand firmly behind them.

  *SAM Supporting Save Rivers in the Fight Against SLAPP*

  As a team of environmental activists, SAM wholeheartedly support Save Rivers in their campaign to "stop the SLAPP" (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation).

  Save Rivers plays a crucial role in defending environmental and land rights, particularly in cases where communities are affected by logging activities without their consent. It is essential to support Save Rivers as they raise concerns about the environmental impacts that directly affect communities, including Indigenous communities, who rely on the environment for their livelihoods. If we don't raise these issues with relevant authorities and government agencies, who will? Save Rivers serves as a voice for communities, shedding light on their struggles.

  There was a similar case in Pahang involving Raub Australian Gold Mining Sdn BHD v Hue Shieh Lee, where decisions at all levels were in favor of Hue Shieh Lee. The concept of SLAPP is recognized in other countries as well. However, this is the first time Save Rivers has explicitly mentioned the issue of SLAPP in their documents. It is evident that these actions are not intended to seek relief but rather to intimidate defenders, creating a climate of fear that discourages others from speaking up.

  *GPS Gov Must Concern the healthcare disparities beyond Kuching*

  The Health White Paper is expected to be presented in Parliament next June to obtain bipartisan acceptance and approval for the direction of healthcare system reform in the country. The Ministry of Health (KKM) has announced that the Health White Paper document will be made public after it is approved in Parliament through various platforms.

  Oscar Ling, DAP MP for Sibu, stated that we need healthcare reform, particularly need more regional hospital in Sarawak. So far in Sarawak, only have regional hospital in Kuching. He emphasized that the current capacity in Sabah and Sarawak, especially in Miri and Sibu, is insufficient. Oscar Ling hopes that the Ministry of Health understands the needs of Sarawak and establishes hospitals in Sibu and Miri in the short term. The lack of radiography facilities is also a problem, as patients from Miri have to travel to Kuching for such services.

  Oscar Ling believes that specialized departments like cardiology and oncology should also be distributed to Miri or Sibu, rather than being centralized in Kuching.

  He further mentioned that the Sarawak state GPS government should take responsibility because they are the ones who request the necessary medical equipment or facilities from the federal government. Therefore, the state government should also understand the situation within the state and work towards increasing the number of hospitals and specialist doctors in other regions to alleviate the burden of patients having to travel long distances to seek medical treatment in Kuching.

  Komeok, Chairperson of KERUAN

  *Government's Disregard for Indigenous Land Rights*

  Deputy Premier Amar Awang Tengah announced that 29 individuals involved in offenses related to Totally Protected Areas (TPAs) and wildlife have been imprisoned between 2020 and April of this year. During the same period, a total of 326 cases of TPA and wildlife-related offenses were recorded. Out of these cases, 34 have been taken to court, 30 have been fined with a total collection of RM172,000, and four cases are still undergoing trial. Additionally, 135 cases have been compounded, resulting in a collection of nearly RM434,000, while 157 cases are currently under investigation. In related news, approximately 872,000 hectares of land, equivalent to 87.2% of the targeted one million hectares, have been designated as TPAs, and the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) oversees 67 TPAs in Sarawak.

  In response to this, Komeok questioned why logging companies that encroach upon indigenous customary lands have not faced consequences. While he agreed with the Sarawak government's efforts to punish those who invade protected forests, he highlighted the persistent invasion and exploitation of indigenous customary lands, particularly those belonging to the Penan community, by logging companies since the 1980s.

  Komeok noted that the Penan community has been erecting blockades for decades to prevent such encroachments, and he questioned why the government has not taken action despite being aware of these activities. He emphasized that while protected forest areas should be safeguarded, the customary lands of indigenous communities serve as a means for them to protect the forests, and those who invade should be held accountable. Komeok stressed that the indigenous people would not compromise and would persist in defending their lands until the end.
