    1. Police confirmed Taib Mahmud was kidnapped and taken away from the Normah Specialist Treatment Center in Kuching. Two police reports were made by Taib's immediate family. Taib, as is well known, is seriously ill and unable to carry out his duties as TYT, so he was quietly replaced by Wan Junaidi.

    2. The new TYT Sarawak started the task by reaching out to the people. This morning TYT Dr. Wan Junaidi had breakfast at Old Rex (an ordinary restaurant) and spent time at the Satok vegetable market. The people of Sarawak hope that the new TYT will be able to visit poor rural areas with less infrastructure facilities so that they can influence government policies to help the poor people.

    3. C4- Najib does not deserve to be pardoned, he deserves a heavier fine and the people should rise up and call for the reform of the pardon system.

    -------------------

Pushpan Murugiah, CEO of the Center to combat corruption and cronyism (C4)

*Malaysian Voices Against Pardon: A Plea for Restructuring the System*

Pushpan raised 2 basis points which are Najib does not deserve a pardon and immediate reform of the Malaysian pardon system.

According to Pushpan, Najib does not deserve a pardon because he has been found guilty in a case where he misused his power to gain benefits for himself, his family and the political party he is president of. He got so many advantages that the sentence was shortened to only 6 years and a fine of RM50 million only. Where is the logic? Embezzled RM42 million but was fined RM50 million. Najib will not learn a lesson if he is treated like this. He should have been fined dozens of times the value of the money he embezzled.

In addition, Pushpan commented that Najib is still facing several criminal cases such as the RM2.27 billion 1 MDB case and the RM1.69 billion tax arrears case from LHDN. Najib should not be pardoned as long as the cases related to him are still being tried in court. He does not deserve mercy.

Lokman Nor Adam's statement - said the PM and TPM played a role in speeding up Najib's appeal to be heard by the pardon board. Pushpan believes that this is where the immediate reform of the amnesty system should be expedited. There should be no political interference to speed up the disposal of cases by the pardon board.

From the overall perspective of Malaysians, the people were mistaken. Najib who committed the biggest sin to cause Malaysians to owe RM50 billion gets sympathy and forgiveness. While the world community is still hunting the culprits of the 1MDB scandal, their leader was pardoned. Malaysia missed the opportunity to reset the wrong system due to Najib's pardon. Regardless, the people should not remain silent, said Pushpan.

    -------------------

Shahrizal Denci, Vice President of Muda

*Challenges to Freedom of Expression: The Tony Pua Incident and Sedition Laws*

The Unity Government is urged to review and update the sedition laws following the former DAP Publicity Secretary, Tony Pua, being summoned for a statement regarding his recent comments on the pardon of former Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak.

Shahrizal Denci, stated that such action is necessary to provide clarity on the definition of sedition to prevent its misuse.

He said that, consider the investigation against Tony, the former Member of Parliament for Damansara, as something unreasonable. If it is true that he is being investigated for comments on Facebook related to the issue of pardoning Najib, then Muda call on the Ministry of Home Affairs to update the sedition laws so as not to waste authorities' time investigating trivial matters.

He emphasize that It is clear in the Federal Constitution that every Malaysian citizen has the right to speak and express opinions as long as they do not touch on sensitive issues.

Based on Tony comments on social media, are the feelings and sentiments of UMNO part of the sensitive issues? Can he not criticize or express opinions on this issue, especially in the context of the current government?

Inspector-General of Police, Razarudin Husain, confirmed on Sunday that Tony was called in for a statement following allegations of insulting the royal institution in relation to Najib's pardon on Monday. The case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Earlier, Tony was reported to have uploaded three posts expressing dissatisfaction with the leniency given to Najib. Sarcastically, he asked someone to send him to jail for a year and he would pay RM50 million in exchange.

    -------------------

    Wesley from Miri

*Family Drama Unfolds: Ragad and Taib Face Accusations of Exploitation*

Social media, including WhatsApp, widely circulated a police report alleging that Taib was forcibly taken away from the ICU and hospital by his wife Ragad, which is shocking and inhumane. Wesley stated that there have been rumors about Taib's deteriorating health, but no one expected that he would be forcibly removed from the hospital by family members, especially by his bedside companion Ragad. In such a situation, the police must intervene and investigate.

He also mentioned that Ragad, like Taib, has exploited the people of Sarawak, especially the rights of indigenous people in the interior areas. Although Taib is no longer TYT (Governor of Sarawak), the past corruption allegations against him and ongoing issues, whether related to Taib himself or his family, should be investigated.

He pointed out that some are concerned that Taib may follow the path of Najib, perhaps facing charges and then receiving a pardon. However, regardless of the outcome, initiating an investigation is crucial. He stated that the poverty of the interior people is closely related to Taib's exploitation of interior resources.

    1. Najib Razak got a partial pardon and the probability of getting parole is also quite positive. With Najib's release, will Anwar Ibrahim's administration be more loved or hated?

    2. Today Daim and his wife applied for the cancellation of the criminal charges against them on the grounds that the SPRM's actions were misleading, the SPRM's investigation was unfounded and the commission did not reveal the nature of the offense that had been investigated against him since last year.

    3. MACC should not forget Taib Mahmud. Even though Taib Mahmud is no longer the TYT of Sarawak. The people of Sarawak still do not want him to be forgotten. MACC once opened investigation papers against him and now. After no longer being TYT, MACC certainly has more time to investigate him. The people of Sarawak also want to know if he resigned as TYT or if he was fired. The people of Sarawak hope that the new TYT can ensure that there are no more poor families in Sarawak. Sarawak is a state rich in natural resources.

Iswardy Morni, Political and News Analyst

*Controversial Pardon: Public Outcry Expected as Najib Sees Sentence Reduction*

Iswardy shared the news that has just been published by a nationwide news portal that Najib Razak got a partial pardon. Fined RM50 million and expected to be released in August 2028, 6 years earlier than the actual imprisonment time.

According to Iswardy, whether we like it or not - Najib still has the influence, finances, position and political power to force such a decision. Malaysia is a country that has practiced the parole system since 2008. Where prisoners who have served one third of their sentence, can apply for parole (incarceration at home) for the remainder of their sentence. This means that Najib only has to wait another 7 months to apply for parole.

Regarding the effect of political support and the effect on Anwar Ibrahim's PMX administration, It is certain that the general public will be angry with PMX and even more unfortunate, Najib's supporters are also angry - because it seems that the unity government administration is not serious about freeing Najib completely. But according to Iswardy, the government has enough time to regain support from the people in the 16th GE which is expected in 2028.

    ------------------------------

Ngeow Chow Ying, Convenor of Project - Stability and Accountability for Malaysia (Projek SAMA)

*Accountability Matters: Projek SAMA Raises Alarms on Najib's Pardon Proces*

Projek SAMA, the sole NGO issuing statements, has requested the Pardon Board to clarify the rumors surrounding Najib's pardon. These rumors have led to confusion and chaos in society for the past week. In the final decision, the Pardon Board has reduced former Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s jail time from 12 years to six, resulting in his release on Aug 23, 2028. Additionally, the board has reduced the fine imposed on the former premier from RM210 million to RM50 million.

However, Projek SAMA blames the Pardon Board for not providing any clarification before the official announcement. They are also seeking information about the recommendations made by the Pardon Board to the King.

Projek SAMA views this as an extraordinary matter. A former Prime Minister, charged with corruption, has undergone the complete judicial process. If the process of pardoning is not transparent and accountable, there is a risk of the public perceiving that powerful individuals can be exempted from imprisonment. This has significant implications for our judiciary and prosecution in the long run. It is a serious matter that demands public attention.

    Mr George from Miri

*Unveiling Taib Mahmood's Legacy: Calls for Investigation into Political Wealth and Environmental Impact*

George recalls throughout Taib Mahmood's career as someone who held power and unimaginable wealth for the longest time, emphasizing that the people should not remain silent even though Taib has abdicated as the Head of State. He has extensively damaged the environment alongside his cronies, and during his iron-fisted rule, he also usurped the rights of indigenous people. Mr. George hopes that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (SPRM) will take steps to investigate all the wealth accumulated by Taib during his tainted political journey. Similarly, Mr. George expresses hope that the new Agong (King) will take stern action against any leaders or citizens involved in corruption. He urges not to let Taib escape comfortably, even in retirement.

    1. Sarawak Premier Abang Johari- unprofessional, disrespectful to the villagers and uncivilized. Johari Openg just issued a statement stating that the government will build dams in Tutoh, Belaga and Gaat. He never asked for permission, dialogue, meeting with the community in the area. When getting opposition from the population. Johari Openg used community leaders, penghulu and local Yb to defend his actions. Johari should be more professional and use the right channels to implement what he wants. Johari and GPS should be ashamed to continue promoting the dam project. Because the people in the resettlement of the dam project are much poorer than their previous lives.

    2. Although it is not yet confirmed that the news of Former Prime Minister Najib Razak has been pardoned, but several international media have reported it, among them CNA Singapore- which reported that Najib got a partial pardon for good behavior (prison sentence and fine reduced by half). If this is true, this is a shame. Without denying the right of the King/Agong who has absolute power in the issue of pardon. Forgiveness should not only be given to VVIP prisoners. Ordinary people who steal bread because of hunger should also be given forgiveness. The person who caused Malaysia to incur a debt of rm50 billion should be severely punished. Instead of being pardoned and released - to serve as a warning to anyone who wants to steal the country's money. The majority of Malaysians want the punishment set by the Court to be fully implemented.

    ----------------------

Dennis Along, Resident of Long Terawan, Mulu.

*Villagers Publicly Oppose Dam Construction, Criticize Lack of Transparency and Question Leaders' Credibility*

The war of words between supporters of dam building and anti-dam is heating up in Tutoh. Wednesday, Mulu assemblyman Gerawat Gala announced to the media that the majority of tribal leaders in Tutoh supported the GPS government's plan to build the Tutoh dam. Gerawat said that the residents agreed because they were aware of the economic benefits and the minimal impact on the environment. On January 30, 2023 - the tribal leaders, led by the area chief Tutoh Benedict Wak said, only a small group opposes the construction of the tutoh dam and they do not represent the voice of the local population, they are not in the village, do not attend meetings and are anti-development.

Dennis explained that they are the largest group representing the people of Tutoh who are against the construction of the Tutoh dam. To date, more than 600 people have signed a petition against the construction of the dam.

They are often denied the right to attend meetings. The meeting is set on a certain date, but is made at another time. More importantly they are not anti-development.

Dennis emphasize that, they want clean water, paved roads, electricity, sec 18 land measurement for development. All this was mentioned by GPS in their manifesto during the state elections, and the communities have support. In the manifesto, there is no mention of the government's plan to build a dam.

Dennis question, is it true that there is support from the tribal leaders who support the construction of the dam? If the name of support dams has revealed, then they also ready to reveal the number of Tutoh residents who oppose the construction of the dam and will send a letter and list to the Premier of Sarawak.

Dennis said it is important on transparency, and they work with transparence. On the other hand, the Premier of Sarawak, His Excellency, Ministers and tribal leaders are working in the dark and are unprofessional.

He conclude that building dams does benefit the state government and their crony contractors. But look at what happened in Bakun and Murum. The people there live harder than before. They also pay electricity bills like other Sarawak residents. They are poorer than anyone who don't have hydro dams. Dennis also ask who works at all the hydro stations in Sarawak. Are they local people there?

    ----------------------

Dominic Langat, Kenyah Long Tungan, Ulu Baram

*Ineffective Communication Systems Leave Interior Villagers Out of the Loop on Current Affairs*

Dominic Langat shares his views on the dire state of Wi-Fi accessibility in rural areas, stating that it is severely lacking and practically unusable. This is crucial in the modern era where internet connectivity is essential, especially in remote regions, as these communication lines are vital for connecting and sharing information.

Over the 60 years since gaining independence, the Sarawak government is perceived to be hindering rural communities, preventing them from staying informed about the happenings around them. This is seen as restricting the people's freedom to use the internet, even though the government has the capability to address this issue.

Regarding 5G, Dominic expresses that it is not a solution, as even in urban areas, he experiences difficulties obtaining a signal.

    ----------------------

Chris Lau, independent Journalist from Sarawak

*Controversial Pardon Rumors Elicit Strong Opposition from Public*

Chris said that, news is flying everywhere, although unconfirmed, the possibility of a pardon has emerged sooner than expected. He has only been imprisoned for 2 years, and the gravity of his offenses is unforgivable to the entire nation. Therefore, if a pardon, be it a reduction in sentence or any other possibility, were to occur, it would be unacceptable.

He believes that this is a tactic employed by UMNO, attempting to release Najib to regain the support of the Malay community. However, the majority of the Malay community today is rational, well aware of Najib's actions, and his release would not inspire them. Corruption has led to a setback in the Malaysian economy, affecting everyone.

He asserts that if Najib is pardoned, Anwar's support will also undergo a change. After being in power for only a year, with people expecting him to combat corruption and establish a clean nation, the release of the biggest corrupt offender would be a significant blow to supporters, especially when success in these efforts has not been fully achieved.

    ----------------------

    Asraf Sharafi, Bersih senior manager

*Ensuring Accountability: Bersih Calls for Public Disclosure of Election Information*

Bersih monitored elections in six states and various by-elections last year, employing Election Observers to scrutinize the electoral processes. Subsequently, the organization initiated the preparation of an election observation report, focusing on the election process and identifying election offenses. The report revealed a staggering number of over 300 offenses, with the majority occurring on polling day.

Asraf said that, Bersih expressing concern over the transparency and accountability of the electoral process, called upon the Election Commission (EC) to submit the election report to Parliament. Despite the EC's submission, the report remained inaccessible to the public.

Bersih emphasizes the need for transparency and accountability in electoral proceedings and aims to uncover crucial information such as the budget allocation for the elections, issues detected during the election period, and any police reports filed by other agencies. The organization believes that tabling these issues in Parliament is essential for addressing and rectifying electoral shortcomings.

Bersih advocates for the public disclosure of the report, provided it does not compromise sensitive information. The intention is to facilitate a comprehensive understanding of the identified issues, enabling collaborative efforts to develop effective strategies and solutions to address electoral challenges.

    1. The coronation of Sultan Ibrahim (sultan of Johor) as the 17th Agong/King, for Malaysia replacing Al-Sultan Abdullah (sultan of Pahang) who has expired. Malaysia is among the 43 countries in the world that practice constitutional monarchy and is the only country in the world that rotates the position of "Head of State", Agong/King- among 9 Malay kings.

    2. Pardon of the Viceroy - the absolute right of the Agong/King. News that Najib Razak may be pardoned by the 16th Agong/King, spread yesterday. Najib was found guilty in the case of misappropriating SRC International funds amounting to RM42 million and he was sentenced to 12 years in prison and fined RM210 million. The trial began in April 2018 and ended in August 2022. Najib has just served a year and 5 months in prison. If he is acquitted, who should be held accountable for the 50 billion 1MDB debt and if he is found guilty again in several other 1MDB cases that are being tried. Will Najib be jailed again? This seems like a pointless process and system. These are some questions asked by the public. Please contact us 013-5515219 to express your opinion.

    ------------------

Simo Sekam- Resident of Kampung Ngigol, Bengoh (In the Puncak Borneo Parliamentary constituency).

*Living Dam-Free: Nyegol's Example on mini hydro, eco-tourism and reforestation - the Possibilities for Other Communities*

In 2007 the Sarawak government made a decision to build the Bengoh dam to supply clean water to the people of Kuching City. In 2010 Bengoh Dam was completed. Some villages were relocated because they were in the project area. But the villagers of Nyegol decided not to move and only moved to higher ground that was not flooded.

Looking back on a decision made 17 years ago, Simo along with 15 other families do not regret to continue living in the dam area. They now inherit their family's NCR land of more than 5000 hectares. They cultivate a small part of the land by planting rice, fruit orchards, replanting trees and running a homestay.

Besides that, Simo and his friends since 2 years ago have started planting 10 thousand trees of various species of tropical trees and now there are still 10 thousand more trees that are still in the nursery. Simo said that they get clean water supply from gravity pipes and work on a mini hydro dam with the help of the NGO Light Up Borneo, and the tree planting project in collaboration with SEB.

This is a very intriguing phenomenon. Initially, the construction of the SEB dam forced several villages to relocate, but now they also recognize and support the village that is reluctant to move, and are involved in a planting project.

Simo said that remembering what happened to them, the government's plan to build the Bengoh dam to supply water to the people of Kuching - has failed. Until now there is no pipe installation from the Bengoh dam to the City Center. They won when they took their case to court in 2014, and they got compensation.

Simo said that they are grateful to Yb See Che How who helped them a lot.

“I advise all residents who are victims of the dam not to give up hope. We have to creatively try to stay alive and have rights on our NCR land. ”

Simo encourage the indigenous communities who facing the same issue, do not give up to protect their land.

    -------------------

Mr. Daeng Laing from Long Panai

*Listening to the Majority: Concerns of Local Communities Contradict the Tutoh Dam Support by Community Leaders*

Daeng Laing responds to the statement made by Mulu ADUN Gerawat Jala, who claimed that the cascading dam project would proceed as it had received approval from the community leader.

Mr. Daeng Laing considers this statement to be deceptive by the representative. He questions why the people are constantly oppressed with the construction of cascading dams when there are already mega dams like Bakun, Murum, and Batang Ai in existence. Why is there a need for new dams to build roads?

Mr. Daeng Laing does not trust the government's promises, and the opposition will continue despite the need to set up blockades again. They do not want to be deceived into believing that a cascading dam will be built, only to later see the construction of a mega dam.

Last Friday, RFS interviewed Celine Lim, Managing Director of Save Rivers on the signature campaign and she mentioned residents from Mulu, Tutoh, and Apoh have initiated a protest petition since September 2023, accumulating over 800 signatures protesting the GPS government's hydro dam construction plan last week.

    ---------------------------

Bryan Tan, treasurer of MUDA Sarawak

*MACC Independence: Muda Sarawak's Call for Credibility and Transparency in Malaysia*

On Transparency International's perception of corruption in Malaysia, the country currently stands at 57 points. In the year 2023, Malaysia showed improvement compared to previous years. Bryan Tan is of the opinion that this is a positive beginning but emphasizes the need for continuous progress.

He believes that with the new or existing government in place, Malaysia has the potential to achieve further improvements. One crucial aspect, according to Bryan Tan, is ensuring the independence of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for the betterment of the nation.

He advocates for a scenario where the MACC operates independently, free from external influences, ensuring that cases are not selectively pursued but rather based on the credibility and merit of each case. This, he believes, will contribute significantly to a more transparent and corruption-free Malaysia.

Garak Jalong, Head of Long Lawen Village, Belaga

*Challenging Pointless Dam Projects: Mini Hydro's Two-Decade Triumph in Sustainable Energy in Belaga*

As the Village Head, Garak does not agree with the way the GPS state government handles the dam construction project in the state. It is said that the residents of Sg. Belaga agreed that the Melata dam should be built in their area. According to Garak, the state government should not only ask for the approval of village heads or tribal leaders. The consent of the poor or common people is very important. Obviously in the past the construction of the Murum and Bakun dams disturbed the lives of the residents.

Garak explained that Kampung Long Lawen did not agree to move to the new settlement of Bakun Sungai Asap, because the compensation value is too small, the land is only 3 acres for a family and it is expected that the poor family will not be able to pay the water and electricity bills.

The residents of Long Lawen moved their settlements (long houses) to higher ground when the bakun dam began to fill with water. In this higher Settlement the residents built a mini hydro Dam with the help of NGO-Green Empowerment from USA.

From 1999 to 2021, the residents of Long Lawen get electricity from this mini hydro dam, without having to pay electricity bills. In 2022 SEB supplies electricity to Long Lawen for free, in return for the land of Long Lawen residents who were not compensated by SEB- in the construction of the Murum hydroelectric dam.

Since the construction of the Murum hydro-electric dam more than 10 years ago, most of the NCR land of Long Lawen residents is affected due to the construction of the project. However, until now SEB and the Sarawak government have not paid compensation for the land. An argument ensued when the government said that the valuation of the land was based on sec 6. But the residents insisted that the land was indeed their NCR land which was valid and should be paid using the land price of sec 18. This case has been brought to court. The residents of Long Lawen use the services of Lawyer Abun Sui Anyit. Residents are still waiting for a hearing date.

Garak said that they still take good care of the mini hydro dam, because if SEB asks us to pay the electricity bill and we can't afford it, they will use the mini hydro dam again.

Mr. James from the traditional village of Tukau Jaya

*Marginalized Tukau Locals: GPS, Parabena, and Land Survey Disregard their Plight*

James reports the current status of actions regarding cases of oppression by the Land and Survey department and Parabena. According to Mr. James, he and several villagers do not wish to pursue the case in court, although a few villagers still want to proceed with legal action against Parabena.

James said that, he and several villagers have sent letters to the Premier of Sarawak, representatives, Parabena, Land and Survey, and various related offices to demand fair compensation. Mr. James and the villagers are unable to afford legal services to continue the case, so it is reasonable for them to seek compensation for the losses incurred on their crops and houses that they have built for over 20 years.

Currently, they are only awaiting responses to their compensation demand letters.

    -------------------------------

Bill Jugah, Founder of Independent Coalition Of Natives (ICON)

*UNDRIP Principles and Local Governance: Striving for Community Consensus*

Deputy Minister II for Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak, Dr. Ripin Lamat, emphasized the importance of every member of the village, security, and development committee (JKKK) in strengthening the relationship between villagers and grassroots leaders. These leaders include the 'tuai rumah' (longhouse chieftains), village headmen, and 'Ketua Kaum' (neighbourhood chiefs).

However, in contemporary times, many village leaders are appointed by YBs or politicians, leading them to become spokespersons for the GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) and companies. This trend often results in chaos within the village, as these leaders prioritize their personal benefits, neglecting the rights of the villagers.

Bill Juga highlighted that not all appointments of JKKK by YBs are necessarily bad, but issues arise when there is a lack of consensus within the community. He advised that adherence to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), specifically in Article 4, commits the government to ensuring the self-determination rights of Indigenous Peoples.

He further emphasized that in the past, leadership was often determined by qualities such as being a warrior, but nowadays, it differs significantly. Individuals with the ability to think critically or possess education should be considered for leadership roles. Bill Juga suggested that if the JKKK team is elected by the community, it would lead to less politicization and greater democratic representation.

    1. The appointment of TYT Sarawak is unconstitutional - according to PBK President Voon Lee Shan. The Sarawak Constitution should be amended so that the appointment of the Sarawak TYT does not require the intervention of people outside Sarawak (Agong/King or Prime Minister in the Federation).

    2. The case of the traffic police asking for bribes from 2 foreign tourists was investigated by Bukit Aman. The case is believed to occur in December 2023.

    3. Tycoon and millionaire Daim Zainuddin pleaded not guilty to failing to comply with the MACC notice to declare hate. There were 71 properties that failed to be declared by Daim. Including 38 companies, 25 real estate and hotel units, 7 luxury vehicles and 2 bank accounts. Daim was charged with deliberately giving a written statement under oath that did not comply with the terms of the SPRM notice dated 8 Nov 2023. He was charged according to section 36(2) of the SPRM Act 2009. Daim urged the public to oppose the PMX Anwar Ibrahim administration which he described as carrying out false and wrong reforms exercise power with selective prosecution.

Voon Lee Shan, President of Bumi Kenyalang Party (PBK)

*Voon Raises Questions on Legitimacy: Is the 8th TYT Appointment Constitutional?*

With the awarding of the letter of appointment by the Agong/King and the swearing-in ceremony of the TYT at the Sarawak state assembly at 3 pm 29 Jan 2024. The issue of the appointment of the 8th TYT Sarawak has been completed.

But for PBK President - Voon Lee Shan, there are still too many unresolved issues. The question arises whether Tun Taib was fired or resigned? No official announcement from the state Astana in Kuching or Announcement by Istana Negara, no resignation letter submitted.

Voon said that, before the appointment of the new TYT is made, the old (existing) TYT must resign first. Tun Taib's term of office still remains until Feb 2024, is Tun Taib forced to resign or refuses to resign, even though he is old, infirm and sick.

Voon also raises another question – Is the appointment of the new TYT through discussion with the Premier of Sarawak? If that is, the Premier of Sarawak should bring the matter up for discussion in the Sarawak state assembly meeting. From the public information we know, that is not the case.

Voon claims that what is happening now is turning his back on the Sarawak constitution or the appointment of the 8th TYT is unconstitutional. Voon suggested that Sarawak move to a more mature and democratic governance. That is by amending the Sarawak constitution so that the power to appoint Sarawak TYT is no longer given to the Agong/King.

Second, The appointment of TYT must be through a motion and vote in the Sarawak state assembly. All parties have the right to nominate candidates in the Sarawak state assembly conference. According to Voon, Leo Mogie, Alexander Nanta Linggie and Richard Riout are also eligible to be considered for the post of TYT, apart from other parties who contributed a lot outside the political radar.

Voon's final assertion is, if the Agong/King is found to be doing something that violates the constitution, he can also be prosecuted in a special court according to article 33(a) of the federal constitution.

    Jeffrey Ngui of MUDA Sarawak

*5G's Limited Reach Interior: Prioritizing Fundamental Communication Networks*

Jeffrery Ngui describes the statement claiming Malaysia's 5G as the fastest in the world as highly dismissive of the sentiments of the people in the digital age. Many in the rural areas of Sabah and Sarawak, according to his colleagues, will lose connectivity when returning to their villages. Jeffrey acknowledges the government's substantial investment in Telco towers in Sarawak but questions their functionality.

Jeffrey Ngui also believes that there may be hidden hands from certain politicians in the internet projects in rural areas, aiming to obstruct telecommunication services to the people in those areas. Moreover, in semi-urban areas, the 5G network is reportedly unusable. Jeffrey suggests that it would be better to utilize the 4G network, funded by the people's money, rather than investing in 5G that doesn't fully function.

    Barnie Lasiimbang, activist from Sabahh

*Neglected Roads and Forgotten Villages in Kota Marudu Sabah*

On the road leading to SK Mengandai in Kota Marudu, a recent viral video highlighted the challenging conditions faced by primary school students and one of their teachers returning to their hostel. They had to spend the night at a farm hut due to the poor road conditions, especially during the rainy season. This issue is not new, but it has gained attention through social media.

The villages in Magandai, located in the Kota Marudu area, face difficulties exacerbated by the inadequate road infrastructure. It is noteworthy that Kota Marudu, despite being one of the poorest districts in Malaysia, has Dr. Maximus Ong Kee Lee as its Member of Parliament, who is also a long-serving minister.

The road, originally a logging road, has seen little to no maintenance since the logging company ceased operations for an extended period. Even Barnie, himself, has experienced such road conditions and spent nights on the roadside. The surrounding communities rely on oil palm companies for minor maintenance.

Given the circumstances, there is a call for the Public Works Department and other state agencies to identify roads connecting to urban schools and prioritize the upgrading of these roads to ensure better accessibility and living conditions for the local residents.

    1. Appointment of TYT Sarawak. The Majority was not given a leading role. The Dayaks are the majority in Sarawak, been waiting for 6 decades to be given the job as TYT. But until today it has not been given a chance. Today the announcement was made that Wan Junaidi Tunku Jaafar was appointed as the 8th Chief Minister of Sarawak. The swearing-in ceremony will be held on 29 Jan 2024. This gave various reactions among the people of Sarawak. Some people think that the prime minister and the Agong/King should not be involved in this matter of appointment. It must go through the Sarawak State Assembly, appointments are made in Sarawak. Appointments are now made by the Agong/King of Malaya, as if Sarawak was still colonized by Malaya. As in the past. The Governor of Sarawak is appointed by the Queen of England. Some argue that article 1(1) of the Sarawak constitution, which gives the Agong/King the power to appoint a TYT after consultation with the Premier of Sarawak, should be repealed. However, the factor that can change this is the dominance in Sarawak's PBB Party itself. Now PBB Sarawak is completely dominated by the Bumiputra (Malay) Wing while the PESAKA (Dayak) wing is only complementary. Therefore, because of that, all decisions are made by the Malays in the UN. PBB in Sarawak controls more than two-thirds of the Sarawak state assembly seats.

    2. Daim and his wife Naimah fired their 2 lawyers today, due to a difference of opinion in the handling of the case. Daim is expected to be prosecuted at any time for failing to declare assets, just like the case faced by his third wife.

    3. Najib and 1MDB Management have never reported the embezzlement of funds in the company since 2009. Further strengthening the evidence that he was involved in embezzlement. This is according to the 49th prosecution witness Nur Aida Arifin in the trial of the 1MDB corruption case worth RM2.27 billion at the Kuala Lumpur High Court today.

    ---------------------

Dennis Along, Resident of Long Terawan Long House, Mulu

*Land Deception: Community Leaders and Former Government Officials Turn Advocates Sparking Panic for Illicit Land Acquisition*

Dennis Along and his associates filed a report today with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Miri regarding the alleged abuse of power and misappropriation of funds by tribal leaders and counselors. The case revolves around the questionable utilization of RM2 million in cash labeled as a "donation" by PUSAKA KTS in 2009 to the residents of Long Terawan and Long Melinau Mulu, with no accompanying financial statements. This donation is connected to the alleged taking of Native Customary Rights (NCR) land from the villagers.

He strongly criticized the community leaders, labeling them as a group of scammers with the victims being the villagers. In 2019, Radian Legon initiated a palm oil plantation on NCR land in Long Terawan and Long Melinau, promising cash assistance of RM400k for each village and RM200k for a water pipe project in Long Terawan. However, no financial statements for these funds have been provided, and as of today, only the pipe has been installed without a water source.

Dennis claimed that irrespective of changes in leadership, from village chiefs to counselors, the modus operandi remains the same, indicating collusion with previous officials. Retired officials, after leaving public service, allegedly join large plantation companies and act as advocates, collaborating with village chiefs to deceive residents into surrendering their land. They allegedly withhold the consequences of section 6 from the villagers, emphasizing that refusal to sign would result in no compensation, using intimidation tactics supported by certain elected representatives (YBs).

Dennis mentioned that despite multiple requests for responses from Baram MP Dennis Ngau and Mulu State Assemblyman Gerawat, they have not been truthful and have even threatened arrests through the media if villagers obstruct land survey activities.

Several villages are currently troubled by land survey issues, with former interior officials allegedly acting as survey advocates, spreading misinformation through WhatsApp groups to create panic.

Dennis urged MACC to thoroughly investigate the matter and vowed to escalate the case to MACC headquarters.

Additionally, he discussed the rejection of the Mulu National Park extension due to the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) providing only a two-week timeframe for land surveying. This short duration is deemed impossible for the villagers. Furthermore, he highlighted the attempt to classify the designated area as a "totally protection area," prohibiting villagers from entering, which Dennis emphasized is impractical.

Dennis also pointed out the Tutoh community's refusal of the Tutoh Dam, citing precedents like Batang Ai, Bakun, and Murum dams where communities did not experience development but faced increased hardships.

    ---------------------

Celine Lim, Managing Director of Save Rivers

*Rejecting Tutoh Dam: 800+ Signatures and More to Come Call for Action, Deadline Set for Abang Johari's Response*

Residents from Mulu, Tutoh, and Apoh have initiated a protest petition since September 2023, accumulating over 500 signatures protesting the GPS government's hydro dam construction plan last week. Within a week, the signatures have grown to over 800 from the communities.

She mentioned that, according to the plan, the gathered signatures will be submitted to Premier Abang Johari at the end of this month to make the government aware of the people's determination.

In response to Gerawat Jala's statement asserting that it is too early for the Baram community to oppose the Cascading Dam issues as they are still under discussion, she remarked that they are not rejecting development. However, it is crucial to know that Abang Johari initially claimed to have received the green light to proceed with the dam construction project, but no one knows who granted this green light.

She emphasized that the people of Tutoh have the right to be informed and requested the government to engage in dialogue before initiating any projects.

    ---------------------

Dixon Naga Ng Sebiru Sg Gaat, Kapit

*Sg Gaat Communities also say NO to cascading dam*

On January 14, Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg stated that communities in three river locations in Sarawak, including Sungai Gaat, Sungai Tutoh, and Sungai Belaga, have approved the state government's construction of cascading dams in their respective areas."

RFS conducted interviews with Tutoh and Belaga communities over the past two weeks and has now obtained a spokesperson's opinion from Sg Gaat.

Contrary to claims that the cascading dam projects have community approval, Dixon stated that currently, no one has engaged with the communities along Sg Gaat regarding the proposed cascading dam.

Sarawak Priemier Abang Johari claim that build cascading dam is to solve the crocodile issue, but the communities along Sg Gaat has no issue with crocodiles.

As the longhouses along Sg Gaat have no electricity supply thus far. So if the dam is constructed for the benefit of the communities, then is very much appreciated. But if it is only to benefit just certain people , they will not agree to.

Therefore he asked who are the one to give greenlight to abang johari? The communities want the responde from Abang Johari. He said, the communities want the basic infrastructure, if the dam is going to destroy their livelihood, then no one is allow it.

    ---------------------

Barnie Lasimbang, an NGO representative and Mini Hydro practitioner

*Mini Hydro: A Greener Choice, Banie Lasimbang Warns Against the Transformation of Cascading Dams into Mega Dams*

Barnie Lasimbanng shares insights on the heated issue of Cascading dams in Sarawak. According to Banie, who is an expert in Mini Hydro practices, Cascading dams are considered better than Mega Dams, but when compared to Mini Hydro projects, the latter is even more environmentally friendly. He believes that Mini Hydro projects are favorable as they involve the entire community in the maintenance work.

Returning to the Cascading Dam issue, the reason for public opposition lies in the lingering fear of Mega Dams. Mega Dams have been known to destroy the environment and submerge indigenous lands. Additionally, many promises made in relation to Mega Dam projects remain unfulfilled, fueling public skepticism and resistance whenever they hear the term "Dam."

Banie expresses concern that if the government gains the trust of the people to construct Cascading Dams, there is a fear that these dams may transform into Mega Dams. This is something that needs to be guarded against.

He questions whether we should believe in the government's promises if they proceed with constructing Cascading Dams. The skepticism arises from the unfulfilled promises and negative impacts associated with Mega Dam projects. This raises important considerations regarding trust and accountability in the context of future dam construction initiatives.

    1. Cases of newborn deaths among the Penan people in Sarawak can be overcome by providing complete health facilities. According to Gereng Jadum, there is no clinic in our settlement, to get to the hospital you have to go through the log road that is operating and we don't have money to wait a long time at the hospital. We have to work every day to earn money to eat. The government should find a quick way to overcome the problem of the Penan people in Sarawak. The old way after 60 years failed to overcome the problem of the Penan people. The problems of the Penan include student dropouts, lack of people and health problems.

    2. The director of the documentary film Man On The Run, Cassius Micheal Kim- curious suddenly Najib Razak submitted a petition to ban the film Man On The Run. For a long time after the interview in April 2022 and the release of the film in cinemas in Oct 2023 - no objections. But twice in a week, Najib and his line of lawyers claimed that this documentary film was sub judice against the ongoing trial. However, communications minister Fahmi Fadzil left it to the court to determine whether the file can still be shown or not.

*GPS, Where Are the Promises? Unraveling the Crisis of Infant Mortality in Murum Penan due Insufficient Medical Facilities*

Gereng confirmed that the road to Penan Lusong Laku Settlement has been cut off and impassable since a week ago. This makes it difficult for the Penan people to move. Because all Penan settlements in Murum and Linau can only be reached through logging roads. There is no paved road to the Penan settlement.

Gereng was asked to comment on the death of a baby from the Lusong Laku settlement area (Linau) last week. The health department did not have time to save the baby because the road was completely cut off. Bad weather for 2 consecutive days caused the helicopter to be unable to land.

According to Gereng. The incident of a mother giving birth in the middle of the road (on the way to the Bintulu hospital) is not unusual for the Penan people.

According to Gereng, last year several such cases occurred. This is due to the settlement of the Penan people far interior, no good road connections and no health clinics in the Penan settlement.

He urged the government, build a health clinic in their place and build a paved road to their longhouse. If this cannot be built immediately. Give enough expenses to mothers who want to give birth.

Many outsiders criticize the Penan people for not coming a week or 2 weeks earlier to the hospital before giving birth. But Gereng said, they are the poorest race group in Malaysia. If they don't work every day, they won't eat, They will not be able to come early to the hospital if there is not enough money. To overcome this problem, the penan communities appeal to the government, Give sufficient financial assistance to mothers who go to the hospital for childbirth.

    ------------------------------

Abun Sui, Senator of PKR Sarawak

*Abang Jo Claims Approval for Dam Construction, Who are they? Demands Names for Further Discussion*

Belaga assemblyman Liwan Ligang is confident that the state government will engage with the people first in the constituency if there is a plan to build a cascading dam at Belaga River, and that the Sarawak government would not bulldoze its way.

Abun Sui recently represented digital complainants, questioning the GPS about who gave Chief Minister Abang Jo the green light to build the dam, and he requests the name. He emphasizes that the villagers have not refused, but they first want to know who gave the approval.

He expresses agreement with Liwan Ligang's statement, not wanting the people to be bulldozed at that time, but now, if Abang Jo claims that someone has given the green light for the government to build the dam, then let the community know who permitted it.

Many promises related to Bakun and Murum dams remain unfulfilled. The government should not turn a blind eye; otherwise, the people will continue to face difficulties, and there will be no trust in the government's promises.

He says that although a cascading dam is not a giant dam, once flooding occurs, it can still lead to the inundation of villages.

He emphasizes that the most important thing is to improve infrastructure, including building wider roads, healthcare, and education facilities, providing water and electricity supply. Once these are improved, there will be no need for the dam.

    ------------------------------

    Tangah from Upper Bengoh

*Opting Out of Dams: Alternative Energies Transform Upper Bengoh Living*

Tangah stands out as one of the few youths in Upper Bengoh who has chosen to remain in the village despite the challenges it faces. Upper Bengoh comprises four villages, with Kg Nyegol being one of them. Unfortunately, three out of these four villages were submerged by the Bengoh Dam in 2014.

Tangah is among the villagers who resisted relocation to the Bengoh Resettlement Scheme (BRS), where each family is allocated only 3 acres of less fertile land. Despite the drawbacks, Tangah, along with the Nyegol community, has chosen to face the challenges of their changed circumstances.

Nyegol serves as the new settlement for the community of Kg Rejoi, which was submerged. Currently, nine families in Nyegol rely on micro hydro systems for electricity during the rainy season, switching to small solar setups during the dry season. Tangah holds the perspective that having electricity from the dam, which runs 24 hours, would be a preferable alternative.

In Nyegol, two micro hydro systems have been installed with the assistance of NGOs. Despite the challenges posed by the dam, the community still enjoys expansive areas of land above the waterline. This land allows them to cultivate various cash crops, including pepper, rubber, ginger, lemongrass, and more. The produce is then sold weekly, providing a source of income for the community.

Tangah's decision to stay in the village reflects a commitment to preserving their way of life, even in the face of significant changes brought about by the dam. The use of alternative energy sources like micro hydro and solar power showcases the community's resilience and adaptability in the wake of the Bengoh Dam project.

    ------------------------------

Nicholas Mujah, the Secretary-General of SADIA HQ in Kuching

*Land Surveying in Private Hands: Unpacking Allegations of Cronyism*

Sarawak Dayak Oil Palm Planters Association (Doppa) members say they are willing to pay for Native Customary Rights (NCR) land surveys to expedite the state government’s efforts and enable the early issuance of perpetuity land titles.

Nicholas Mujah, when comment on this statement, he agrees if DOPPA helps in paying for the NCR land survey.

However, according to Nicholas Mujah, he mentioned whether DOPPA has conducted a detailed study with the Land and Survey Department.

Nicholas Mujah, being experienced in this matter, stated that before conducting the NCR land survey, one should examine the 1958 Master Map available at the Land and Survey Department. DOPPA should not have prematurely issued statements in the media if DOPPA has not thoroughly outlined the procedures required when utilizing the private concept for land surveying through Land and Survey. The process must adhere to existing legal protocols so that the NCR land survey declared by DOPPA is valid and cannot be disrupted by so-called cronies. This is crucial for DOPPA to explain to the public the procedures to be considered because the land surveying process is challenging and time-consuming, contrary to what DOPPA has stated in the newspapers.

It is important to know if the conditions imposed by government agencies such as Land and Survey are not in line with the expectations of the people, as in Section 18. A thorough investigation into the land supposedly owned by the people reveals that provisional leases have already been granted to any property development company.

*Residents Protest Sec 6 Land Measurement Amidst Allegations of Bribery and Misappropriation*

Dennis Along and friends will make a report to MACC Miri at 10 am on 25 January 2024, it is about the case of abuse of power and misappropriation of money by some tribal leaders and counselors in the Mulu area.

In 2009 PUSAKA KTS donated RM2 million in cash to the villagers of Long Terawan and Long Melinau Mulu, However, there is no financial statement of the use of the money. This RM2 million money was given by PUSAKA KTS because of the taking of NCR land from the residents.

In 2019, the Radian Legon company opened a palm oil plantation in the NCR land area of the residents of Long Terawan and Long Melinau and announced cash assistance of RM 400k for the residents of Long Terawan, RM400K for the residents of Long Melinau and RM200k for the water pipe project for the residents of Long Terawan. Again, there is no financial statement related to the money.

This time, the land measurement of the residents of Long Terawan and Melinau also witnessed the same method. Dennis Along believe that community leaders and councilors were also bribed until they agreed to the sec 6 measure.

Before the dialogue and before the residents agreed to the sec 6 measure, the land and survey department along with the staff of private companies have been in their land area. They are strongly protesting and they don't want their land to be measured under sec 6.

What can he summarize, he said, more and more power is given to GPS, the more greedy they rob the people's land. Dennis is asking people to come and support him on this Friday.

    Janie Lasimbang, Kapayan Assemblywoman

*Call to Action: Empowering Indigenous Women in Politics*

Janie Lasimbang attended a domestic seminar on indigenous women and highlighted two noteworthy issues. Firstly, she discussed the issue of underage girls getting married, and secondly, the limited involvement of indigenous women in politics.

Regarding underage marriage, Janie Lasimbang pointed out that although this issue has been raised in state and national assemblies, there are challenges in amending laws within the Children's Court. While Shariah and civil laws already address related issues, modifications are needed in the Mahkamah Adat (indigenous court), as there is currently no law restricting the age of marriage. Importantly, any new legislation must gain recognition and support within the national parliament to be successfully amended.

She emphasized that if these underage marriages are not recognized or legally registered, their children may become stateless, affecting the education and economic prospects of the next generation.

In terms of political participation, Janie Lasimbang highlighted the limited involvement of indigenous women. She stressed the importance of training and accepting indigenous women in political activities, encouraging political parties to initiate relevant training programs. She hopes that by enhancing the political participation of indigenous women, they can become candidates and have their voices heard on higher political platforms. Additionally, Janie Lasimbang urged the organization of more political awareness events in communities to promote broader participation.

Solomon Ngau, activist Sape musician from Ulu Baram

*Armed Enforcement and Unannounced Land Surveys: GPS Faces Backlash*

The land survey arranged by GPS involves fully armed law enforcement personnel on site, appearing as if facing a major threat. Is this an intimidation tactic against the villagers? Such threatening methods are becoming more common, akin to entering a mall with weapons and indiscriminately taking goods – it's nothing short of thuggish behavior.

According to him, the current land survey bureau enters the villagers' land without prior notification, deploying teams directly into the villages, catching the villagers off guard. This approach, whether based on law enforcement regulations or humanitarian considerations, is deemed incorrect.

He mentioned that most of the villagers now are elderly and children, and the sudden arrival of law enforcement personnel frightens them. Human rights are completely ignored in this situation. He argued that if Section 6 (sec6) is in line with public sentiment, there is no need to invade community land in this manner. In other words, GPS is well aware that sec6 is unpopular and carries a connotation of land encroachment, prompting them to conduct so-called land surveys in this absurd manner.

Solomon urged the interior people to be more vigilant and, at the same time, requested GPS to immediately cease the intimidating actions against the villagers.

*Sarawak's Call for Constitutional Reform: Ending Malayan Interference*

Viral discussion in Sarawak when the news said that there will be an appointment of TYT to replace Taib Mahmud whose term of office will expire next February. PM Anwar said, the announcement will be made in 2 days. While Premier Johari Openg said, the appointing power of the TYT is the absolute power of the Agong/King. For Voon the statements of the two main leaders are not accurate. First, Taib's successor cannot be announced as long as he does not resign and secondly, the power to appoint TYT should not be the absolute power of the Agong/King. The appointment and proclamation of the TYT should be done in the Sarawak state assembly itself.

According to Voon, the Sarawak constitution should be amended, to enable the appointment of TYT to be made through a name that has been proposed and voted on by a majority in the Sarawak state assembly. If only the Premier proposes (prerogative power) and is installed by the Agong, this means that Sarawak is a state under the Malayan colony. While in the concept of the formation of Malaysia, Sarawak, Sabah and Malaya are equal partners.

According to Voon again, the time has come for Sarawak to correct and stop Malaya's interference in Sarawak's internal affairs. At the beginning of the formation of Malaysia, Stephen Kalong Ningkan is CM and Jugah is proposed as TYT. This matter was objected by Malaya and they sent a representative of UMNO as a candidate for TYT Sarawak. When many objections, so the compromise step is Kalong Ningkan remains CM but Abang Haji Openg is appointed TYT (Sarawak Malay). This is not an understanding, but this is a political intervention by Malaya at that time. The time has come for Malaya not to interfere in the appointment of Sarawak TYT.

    Faisal Aziz, Chairman of Bersih

*Bersih Urges PM Anwar for Swift Anti-Corruption Reforms*

Bersih has urged Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to fast-track vital reforms to combat corruption in Malaysia. The focus is on separating the roles of the Attorney-General (AG) and the Public Prosecutor (PP) for more effective handling of corruption cases. The coalition also emphasizes the need for reforms within the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the introduction of a Political Financing Act.

Expressing deep concern, Bersih highlights the recurring issue of granting "discharge not amounting to acquittal" (DNAA) in corruption cases involving politicians. The recent case of former Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak, facing money-laundering charges related to SRC International Sdn Bhd funds, has brought this issue to the forefront, eroding public trust in law enforcement institutions.

Faisal Aziz, Bersih spokesperson, emphasizes the urgency for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to announce a clear timeline for the separation of the AG and PP offices. The coalition argues that this separation is crucial to prevent the misuse of DNAA in corruption cases and ensure a fair legal process. Recent statements by the AG, suggesting no need for explanations when withdrawing charges, have raised concerns, especially in cases of public interest and high-level politicians.

Bersih categorically rejects the practice of DNAA for politicians facing corruption and criminal breach of trust charges. The coalition advocates for a fair legal process, urging individuals to defend themselves in court rather than seeking dismissal through DNAA.

The call for immediate reforms in separating the AG and PP offices, along with improvements in the MACC and the Political Financing Act, underscores the need for a strong anti-corruption framework in Malaysia. Bersih emphasizes the importance of upholding public trust in law enforcement institutions and urges the government to fulfill pre-election commitments. All eyes are on Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim as Malaysians await decisive action to combat corruption and ensure transparency in the country's legal system.

*No More Political Involvement in Headman Appointments: Advocating for Fair and Transparent Processes*

Minister in Sarawak Premier’s Department, John Sikie Tayai, underscores the crucial role of the Tatau District Office in overseeing the appointment process of Village, Security, and Development Committee (JKKK) members in longhouses. He specifically stresses that key positions like the chairman, secretary, and treasurer should not be occupied by close family members. This measure aims to ensure transparent financial management within the JKKK or any association.

Elias Lippi, PKR of Ulu Baram, expresses agreement with the statement, emphasizing that JKKK members should not be chosen from close family circles. However, he raises a pertinent question about the involvement of politicians, elected representatives (YB), or political parties in the appointment of community leaders. Lippi points out that in Sarawak, the selection of community leaders is often influenced by political figures seeking political advantages. This, he argues, contradicts democratic principles, emphasizing that the District Officer's office should play a decisive role in appointments free from political interference.

Lippi's concerns highlight the need for a transparent and democratic process in the appointment of community leaders, ensuring that it aligns with principles of fairness and impartiality. The ongoing discourse reflects the broader discussion around depoliticizing such appointments to strengthen democratic practices within the region.

    (call-in)Nixon from Miri

*Enhancing Governance: Push for Two-Term Limit in Sarawak Premier Position*

Nixon anticipates a significant shift in the successor to Taib Mahmud as the Governor of Sarawak (TYT). He identifies three potential candidates: Jabu, Leo Moggie, and Wan Junaidi. The upcoming day holds great anticipation for the entire Sarawakian populace.

The prolonged inaction on the implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) raises hopes for a historic occurrence this time around.

According to Nixon, the position of Sarawak's Premier should have a restricted term, ideally limited to two terms. This proposal aims to prevent the concentration of power in the hands of a single leader for an extended period, thereby mitigating potential abuses of authority.

As Sarawak awaits the unfolding events, the prospect of change in leadership brings with it the aspirations for adherence to historical agreements and the introduction of governance practices that prioritize transparency and democratic principles. The decisions made in the coming days will undoubtedly shape the trajectory of Sarawak's political landscape.
